Good video. I've been dealing with other guys with bad hygiene since the high school locker room days and it really surprises me how far they get in life never picking up on obvious grooming habits like these.

I used to be bad about taking care of myself until I met my current barber and started paying more attention to self care. Since I started being better about it, I've felt my confidence and self-worth go up What I appreciate about your channel is you suggest how guys can care for themselves without shaming or insulting them. I've seen other channels try to give "advice" but just insult guys' personal styles and say they're unattractive if they don't look like a movie star. Your channel is about self-care and self-improvement and doesn't try to cut people down

I always brush my tongue, gently of course. A clean healthy mouth helps maintain the health of the entire body.

@@Onmysheet I had al electric toothbrush but did not use it on my tongue. I had a separate brush for that. Remember to be gentle on both you teeth and your tongue. I also use a mouth wash afterwards. I never go to to bed nor go out without a minty-fresh mouth.

The last time you mentioned it is what got me to take it seriously. (Maybe that sweet, sincere voice of yours?). Anyway… I work hard to stay in shape & I’m very particular about what I put in my body. But…. All these years I neglected my largest organ, my skin. Not anymore. I was having writers block and watched your video on how to tell if she doesn't like you, and I was able to type out 10 pages because this lead to that, and that lead to this, and a subplot emerged from another thing. I’m a huge advocate for proper hygiene already but I still watched the whole video bc your presentation is so enjoyable. From a gym rat perspective more ppl need to bring hygiene to the forefront of discussion. Too many guys in the gym reek from 20ft away.
And about half of the smelly guys are stinking from some horrid bodyspray.

Great video. Grooming and being clean is baseline standards not just for attraction but I’d argue human interaction in general.
I agree with that statement Lawrence. I do it all that grooming, and I wear my suits and ties with a good fragrance I try to be the best version of myself women do comment and like it.

Why don't you just scrub your tongue at the end of your toothbrushing? This was taught 40+ years ago to keep the tongue healthy.
@@contumelious-8440 well one that pushes everything back down into your tongue and that stuff also will stain your toothbrush. They started making tongue scrapers with flossers and that was a good idea but the rubber tongue scraper with the little bristles on the back is a step up and much better. You can brush your tongue all you want just know you are pushing all of that stuff into your tongue just like some people that brush and circles only push all of that gunk between their teeth, where I try to finish brushing my teeth as if I'm brushing hair where I'm drawing down (or up)

I use a tongue scraper, have for some time and you are absolutely correct about using one!
Those are key and here's some more: 1. Foot Balm to repair & Foot Buffer to smooth feet and toes (+ bonus fungal solution if needed) 2. Tweezers to pluck excess hairs (wax optional) 3. Aloe Gel to soothe and repair skin 4. Skin tag patches for acne (& more) 5. Natural Basics: Heavy Hydration, Sleep, Exercise, Stretching, Meditation, Brushing Hair, Nutrition, Herbs, etc... Also if you're good at brushing & use whitening toothpaste consistently and don't have a scraper, a good toothbrush can work to brush the tongue & makes a big difference!

Power toothbrush was recommended to me by my hygenist since she knew I didn't like the dentist. That was 24 years ago. She assessed me 12 years ago after and said "yeah, we made the right call" as my teeth were in really good shape despite not having been to the dentist. Also, re nails, only classical guitar players really need them and even then, only on the string plucking hand (usually right). Most others play with a pick. For a bassist like myself, short nails are the way to go. Especially for the big upright monster I play.

I know people love their skincare routines but Ive found that doing the least amount possible and eating well has been the best thing for my skin. Exfoliate every so often yes but not a bunch of stuff going on. I think women could reallt benefit from that as well
Yes! My skin started clearing up when I stopped eating junk food and drinking soda. You are what you eat, and once you stop eating the junk you'll look and feel better. I just use a cleanser, moisturizer, and sun screen and my skin looks great.

good channel, I like the way you present your content. That's why I go early in the morning to my gym, at 6pm that gym is burning arm pits.
I only needed to implement a skin care routine during the last year of middle school and the first couple years of high school. Occasionally, it does dry out, but I always just put a small dab of lotion on any of the problem areas and I am set. Also, that combination shampoo-conditioner doesn't work. Get the shampoo and conditioner separate, and actually let the products do what they are intended to do.
I use lotion when my hands or face get a little dried out, but I can't see paying all that money for constant products that don't have scientific studies going back 50+ years to prove they work. (at reducing age wrinkles) One of my biggest gripes is seeing guys on the construction site working all day long without gloves. Their hands have to feel like bricks. Do women like those rough hands running over their skin in the bedroom? I am a guy with long hair and separate shampoo and conditioner is the way to go. The combo stuff is trash.

@@contumelious-8440 I only use lotion on my face, usually around my cheeks and temples. I also have a huge backlog of lotion bottles from times when I've been in hotels, and I'm just burning through that. As far as women are concerned, I think a lot of them actually love a guy with tough, leathery and strong hands, so long as they are clean, and not dirty. My hair is growing longer and longer, and I have been getting more efficient at using product. I also just put in a bit of gel to keep it out of my face. I go total Wall Street with it.

Great stuff! A alternative to tongue skraper: use the tooth brush with some more paste and brush your tongue.
I would also add... Oil Pulling a few times per week. Also; using a sinus rinse kit. Sinus issue's I think account for most bad breath issues.

I have used face cream with SPF 15 (sun cream built in) From the age of 21, at 40 I have no wrinkles. Also sunglasses every day = no eye damage.

If you’re a guitarist learning from a classical teacher worth their salt, yes, longer nails are a requirement on one’s picking hand. However, part of what I was taught and what I teach my students is proper nail care and a good nail care kit is essential in any classical guitar case.
I can attest to using the tongue scrapper. I've used one since I was a teenager (I'm 32 now). It makes a big difference and you'll be surprised how much debris comes off.
Can't you just scrub it with your toothbrush at the end of your toothbrushing? Lot simpler plus you have toothpaste to help dissolve nasty stuff.

Hi Courtney. I am a jazz guitarist (that's all I post here), and I can confirm that at a very high level of classical guitar playing that I think most people are not doing you do need long nails in specific shapes for each finger in order to play fingerstyle most efficiently (I have a guitar professor who is constantly filing his nails in to shape). In every other discipline of guitar playing this is largely unnecessary. Hope I could clear that up

Skin care, she speaks the gospel. If it makes it easier, look for a reward if you need to. For me, I absolutely love wearing cologne, I love to smell good. It's not about compliments so much for me, I'm married, but I do believe that I'm treated better by people because of it. The cologne is the reward for me, every morning a hot shower, a good soap & face scrub, then a good lotion & the cologne (Always moisturize before you put on a fragrance).

The long nails for guitar is dependent on what style of guitar you play. You don't need them if you play electric, however if you're playing a nylon guitar for classical music; having longer nails helps to finger pick. I've needed them before but now I keep them trimmed because I no longer play that style, I only play electric.
I was shocked by how many women tell me that they get turned off by good looking guys all because they smell bad.
@Courtney Ryan Well in my case, I've given up. My routine is sleep until at least 5PM. I don't bother to wash, clean clothes or even washing up. Or at least not on a regular basis. No one visits my flat arranged or otherwise so why bother? I feel disliked by people who have never even known me in any meaningful way. And yet when I have, made the effort to take care of myself I have felt better. It IS way more than looking good. It has a huge impact on someone's mental health long term. I know full well what I have to do to turn my life around but a part of me just wants to hide away and avoid being wounded again. Good news? I have gone out a few times over the last several months socialising and beforehand made effort to groom myself as well as be part of the moment. You know see it as magic. None of this is due to or the fault of women. At the end of the day, the buck stops with me. We are the authors of our lives but to be fair others do play their part in how we feel and have reacted. Keep up the good work and it's great to see someone so down to Earth. David
Could someone recommend a good alternative to Deodorant? I've read from several sources, originating from multiple countries (US/EU/BR) that showering every day, or twice a day, isn't good for your skin and should be avoided. (Read Harvard's explanation.) BUT - in a warm country like Brazil, showering often is considered the norm. The example Courtney uses seems a bit excessive considering showering and using deodorant right before you work out and doing it again 60/90min later isn't healthy. I get it, women don't like stinky men. And washing your armpits and southern regions very well is a must. No arguments. But spraying chemicals on my body every day is something I try to avoid. The same applies to most perfumed shower/douche gels. Which should not be used to clean your lady part. (Not my words.) And no offense, the smell coming from down under varies greatly. Personally, I like to swim and get it all done for the day. It's also good very good for your back. But yeah, if anyone has some alternatives or recommendations, it's greatly appreciated! (Living in Brazil, spending a lot of time in the sun (uv-index 15, even in winter) destroys your skin. They also generally shower with poor quality water. Yet, many people believe showering should be done twice a day there. Whereas in Japan, and I've heard this from friends who live there, the ladies shower twice a week. And never smelled bad.)

I have heard this being said a few times before so it bears repeating - women will respect an average-looking guy who takes good care of himself a lot more than a good-looking guy who does not, and who fills his body with trash and does not groom himself. Proper grooming and hygiene do go a long way.
It's great to lie to yourself and tell yourself these type of things, but its just not true is it? The average guy that isn't good looking and goes to all this grooming effort gets laughed at by most women.
