Fixing The Leaking Windows In The Château Cottage. Ep 12

Bonjour à tous,
This week in the château cottage, the sun is out and feels like spring, Tony is walking back with he’s morning coffee and Tracy has got the ladders out for the next job.
While the weather is nice the pair tackle the leaking dormer windows, the french windows are beautiful but cause a lot of problems with water coming in.
Plus, Tracy completes the stone wall in the cottage bathroom which looks amazing, just a couple more finishing touches and it’s time to start on the next one.

About us,
We are a family from the North-East of England following our dream to restore a beautiful abandoned french Château. We discovered the heart stopping Château De Lalacelle in summer of 2020, this beautiful architectural monument Is set in the countryside of North-West France.
The moment we visited the Château we all fell in love, from the beautiful sweeping landscape and forests, to its stunning untouched interiors and magnificent spiral staircase in the turret.
Unfortunately Château De Lalacelle has been abandoned for a number of decades so will need a lot of restoration and DIY.
Please subscribe and follow our families journey, with the up’s and down’s in moving from the UK to rural France and restoring this beautiful building to its former glory.

  • The gold pooping donkey is a reference to a fairytale by the German Grimm brothers. It's certainly worth getting it for Jonathan to read 'cause it's quite hilarious, particularly for young boys. In Dutch, we have derived a saying from that story: "I don't have a donkey that poos money, you know." It's something you say when a family member keeps spending money on things. Ash, you can use it when Terry's buying more chandeliers. 😄

  • Just wanted to say: I saw someone mention a Grimm's fairytale in reference to the delightful donkey card, but it could also be a reference to the French story Donkeyskin. It prominently features a donkey that poops gold coins and is the source of wealth for the king at the start of the story.

    @tarakathleen68@tarakathleen68 Жыл бұрын
  • I am from Austria, I enjoy watching your vlogs and I am very curious to see how things are progressing at your chateau. . The donkey I think referes to an old fairy tale collected by the brothers Grimm, where there are three brothers: one gets a table that misteriously gets set with plenty of the best food when a certain magic phrase is used, another brother gets a donky that drops goldcoins when a magic word is uttered and the third brother gets a stick or club that is beating any offender mercilessly when again a certain magic word is uttered. ... this is of course not the whole story but I think the "Gold-Donkey" on the card is a reference to that story 🙂 You guys could indeed use such a Gold-dunkey and I hope you will get subscribers that will do the gold-coin-trick. Best of luck!

Hope it feels as a reward for your hard work. This really goes for all of you! Sorry to hear the new windows don't live up to your expectations. You expect to have to fiddle with old windows when you restore them, but not with new ones. This surely must be disappointing. Good you noticed it in time to remedy it. You certainly don't want damp behind the new plasterboard. The chateau showed you enough examples of the destructive power of damp! At least it looks like your enthousiasme hasn't dampened 😉😊

A protection against the weather in winter, where you are sheltered from wind and rain? My husband and I built a home and because of footprint on the block, we chose not to have an alcove type door. Winter brings in issues, with the direct access into the household. I look with envy at the glass coverings for the Chateau doors. We are saving for a glass awning! Loving the progress you are making, Regards Susan.
