About us,
We are a family from the North-East of England following our dream to restore a beautiful abandoned french Château. We discovered the heart stopping Château De Lalacelle in summer of 2020, this beautiful architectural monument Is set in the countryside of North-West France.
The moment we visited the Château we all fell in love, from the beautiful sweeping landscape and forests, to its stunning untouched interiors and magnificent spiral staircase in the turret.
Unfortunately Château De Lalacelle has been abandoned for a number of decades so will need a lot of restoration and DIY.
Please subscribe and follow our families journey, with the up’s and down’s in moving from the UK to rural France and restoring this beautiful building to its former glory.

Tracey is the beautiful , independent, strong-minded, yet gentle-spoken, queen of the renovaton's spirit, gluing a womderful family together. Admire each and everyone of you immensely. • Tony & Tracy well done, you are such a great couple! Tony the bedroom is looking so good, that soak when you have the bath tub in will be wonderful for your back & neck! Tracy the stone wall is wonderful, so much hard work, but the satisfaction in looking at it after, knowing you did that, will be so rewarding when lying in the tub having a wonderful well earned bath! Thank you so much, take really good care of yourselves, stay well! Much love Kathy x 💖

  • It never ceases to impress the amount of work involved to bring the property back to its former glory, and more. It's also an impressive feat to watch you tackle the tasks with the verve you all show. Imagine your first impression when you saw this jumble of buildings, wild brush, and weedy land that needed so much work to restore. The energy you put into each part of this endeavor is really impressive. The fact that you are also letting the world into the process is such a great show of your determination to make this your home and business. good on you for the cohesiveness of your lovely family. cheers

  • Tony and Tracy, you're five star! Tony, Health and Safety would definitely be on your case re: ergonomics 😉 and ensuring you give your neck and back a rest. Would highly recommend one of those electric heating pads when you're relaxing. Such a difference for a small price! The cottage is such a gem, the love and care Tracey and Tony have invested echoes in the walls. Do pace yourselves and take some time, the two of you, to enjoy the surroundings. ❤️🤗 Mariya

I love the way that you encourage, educate, involve and praise Jonathan. The building of confidence in children is so important, I do so admire how you are doing that. What a lucky boy to have such a loving family. I am looking forward to seeing your progress in the coming months.

  • Hello everyone. My goodness you’ve come a long way. You reached your goal to have your Christmas tree in the grand room so now you have the rest of the year ( through summer) to finish the cottage. Maybe slow down or at least get some rest when you see fit. Your health comes first and you don’t want to burn out. Tracy, you’re Wonder Woman, you can accomplish anything you put your mind to, you’ve proved that already. Take care.

  • It’s probably too late now, but may be useful for future for you. We made a mix of Zilver Zoda (Silver Soda), Fairy (green soap) dishwashing detergent and warm water to clean teak decking and furniture. It lifts dirt beautifully, but must be rinsed off. It’s amazing how good a job it does. The zilver zoda needs to be about 3/4 to one cup, and about 1/4 cup fairy to a 3/4 bucket water. Dip a soft bristled brush/broom in and GENTLY scrub. For wood, you must only brush in the direction of the grain. Rinse and allow to dry and be surprised how clean it comes up. I’m sure it would work on Tracey’s wall project. Zilver zoda is very cheap and often on the bottom shelf in the supermarket.

  • You all are wonderful. I don't have much ambition now , but could sit all day watching all of the chateau videos. When I was ambitious I found that dishwasher powder (Cascade0 really cleaned, killed "stuff" gunk off of walls, floors, doors etc. and outside windows were easy to clean. Just mix in hot water and brush on , then hose off. It cleanes the frames and the class no wiping.

  • In the future it is best to wash stone like that with a mixture of water and something acidic. White vinegar can be used for general cleaning. When using soap, if not rinsed thoroughly a residue can be left behind making it hard for anything to stick to the stone afterwards. This is a professional tip rather than an opinion. Good luck on all your hard work! It's looking amazing.

Also builders trestles and planks are much better than up and down steps. Grout bags/guns for the pointing, mush quicker and cleaner.

People do use windowless rooms as bedrooms, but you can't call it one, you have to have a window to get out of incase there is a fire. It's funny the way countries have different rules.

  • Tracy, could I suggest using a piping bag for the mortar, I used that on the stone wall in my kitchen, works fairly well, but so far you are doing a great job..Terry too..

  • When I and my husband renovated the kitchen in an old house, we put ølandsbrud on one wall, when the wall had to be grouted, my husband (who was a baker) took a bag that you use to decorate cakes with - it was filled with grout - and then he otherwise got the wick jointed in a hurry 👌 - good work you get done.

  • Be fun to sculpt a mouse for a hole. As long as it’s sealed in the back, could you leave a kind of pocket? For a little mouse or bird.

  • Beautiful start to the year. The white looks old world with the beams. Tracy shows real talent with the pointing. Well done! Looking forward to seeing the finished upstairs rooms. I'm sure that you are as well! ~ Diane - New Hampshire USA
