Bonjour à tous,
This week Terry & Ash take a seat in the château grand salon and chat to us about why and how they managed to buy an abandoned château in the french countryside.
In the chat, the pair talk about how they found that dream castle and why the shear amount of work needed did not deter them from saving this abandoned beauty.

About us,
We are a family from the North-East of England following our dream to restore a beautiful abandoned french Château. We discovered the heart stopping Château De Lalacelle in summer of 2020, this beautiful architectural monument Is set in the countryside of North-West France.
The moment we visited the Château we all fell in love, from the beautiful sweeping landscape and forests, to its stunning untouched interiors and magnificent spiral staircase in the turret.
Unfortunately Château De Lalacelle has been abandoned for a number of decades so will need a lot of restoration and DIY.
Please subscribe and follow our families journey, with the up’s and down’s in moving from the UK to rural France and restoring this beautiful building to its former glory.

  • This was a brilliant blog. Thankyou for sharing. Mumma Tracey, you are an absolute inspiration. From one grandma who looks after a grandchild to another I love watching and listening to the way you love Jonathan. He will be an amazing man if he is half as lovely as your son. What a legacy you will leave. 😇

I knew she was a good and the exactly the same as she appears. She’s “Wonder Woman” for sure! You two, I should say you 3 are very blessed and Jonathan also, to have you all. What a lovely family you all are.

  • This is far from boring. It is a charming and very interesting video. This is actually the second time I've watched it. And the quality of the videos has improved so much. I'm not a native speaker so I had a very hard time understanding you in the first video. But now the sound quality is so much better and I get pretty much all of what you're saying.. Thank you for entertaining us! Lots of love from Germany.

  • This was really nice, to get a fuller picture of your process. It's funny that Adrian and Carole looked at Lalacelle, because what they bought seems like a boat-load more work. I appreciate that you are so tolerant of French work ethics and so complimentary of your mayor. I also appreciate that you don't show bickering or pretend fighting, like so many other sites do. That inherent kindness is at the root of your appeal!

  • Thank you Terry and Ash. This was a wonderful Story of how you are living your dreams. Please stop thinking you are not enough. Each one of you is so much more, each of you is so capable. We learn from our experiences...trust yourselves in what you are doing. Tracy you are amazing. You so remind me of me 35-40 years ago, when my husband and I were given a little house in the countryside in Greenwich, Ct. but before this we bought an 100 yr. old Gate House to a lovely Mansion. I was 22 at the time. My husband worked at a bank. I stayed home with our 2 yr. old son...and slowly but surely began to renovate different rooms of this charming Mansard Roof Gate House. I was inspired and encouraged by my husband's Dad and Uncle, who always were kind and appreciative of the daily challenges we faced. Many many moons have passed and life has changed. We lost the father of my 2 sons when he was just 56. They were in their early 20's. I now am incapacitated and spend most of my days and nights reclining...struggling with acute chronic nerve pain. I am very grateful for your Vlog. Tony you are also extremely capable...quietly you are creating amazing bringing the enchanting cottage back to life.. Ash and Terry you are such amazing examples for Jonathan to emulate. He is s super lad, who is a little sponge, absorbing everything, wanting to help, wanting and so needing to be needed. I love how Jonathan has been encouraged to start a garden. His eyes say it all.☺ Tony and Tracy, Ash and Terry you are the Best. How I wish i could fly to your home, and help. Sadly it is almost impossible for me to travel. I know, the time is coming when you will be receiving Volunteers who will share their knowledge and loving kindness to help make your dreams a reality. Much Love and Gratitude. Sending you virtual hugs. Anita🙏🌟✨🎉🗼💛💙💜🧡

  • A truly wonderful and inspiring segment gents! Love hearing your story... from the beginning, about the trials, tribulations, positive thinking, determination, and your road to success. Truly inspiring - brought a genuine tear to my eye - listening to your story and path, your partnership, the risks, the total family involvement, and of course your parents with a spotlight on Tracy - also had a tear or two with her through several of your Christmas segments when she teared up a bit - from genuine, heart-felt appreciation from your followers. My partner and I are (have been) exploring a very similar direction... with totally similar comparisons to you both (as I'm sure you hear from many others). Me the creative / visionary / dreamer... see's the possibilities and the final results even if weeks or months away... grew up in retail, customer service, display, interior design, hotel / hospitality, event design, etc... my partner the more 'black and white one'...logical, calm, rational, computer genus 'geek'. And me pushing the goal to find a property overseas (exploring France and Italy)... so that we can at least say that we did it / tried it... with more than just broken dreams and disappointment that we didn't. Congrats!

    • Good evening, Mr. Wickens and thank you for your comment. May I respectfully ask what is the inspiration behind your quest to go down this same path as Terry and partner, and how does one find these homes and then pay for them to be renovated? I would love to do the same thing but 1) don't speak a lick of French or Italian, 2) am a healthcare professional so I can't 'work from home' or do any videoing, and 3) don't have enough 'stuff' to sell to begin to pay for a ticket to yonder plains, much less understand the bureaucracy entailed in purchasing an old homestead or where to buy timber/plumbing/electrical items. It's great to have a dream, but paying for it is the trick. Any thoughts, tips or tricks?? I'm no Angel Adoree', Stephanie Jarvis or Terry!!! Thank you, and best of luck with your venture!!

I have had a lifetime of experience, painting , tiling, wallpapering etc. we are currently renovating a home for my daughter and her family. I have finished tiling 4 bathroom floors and 3 out of 4 of the bathroom. Showers. It’s hard work but very satisfying. We find it is the best way to help our children, so they have a great start to life and a beautiful home is a very nice place for the grandchildren to live in. It’s great to see you restoring the chateau for future generations to live and enjoy. I Enjoy the process just as much as living in the finished project. Thanks for opening up your lives for us to see and share , from Susan in Canada.

I can only say I have a real love for you both & also the family, particularly Tracy and the friends who come & go. Being a former diy guy, nothing ever defeated me, on roofs fixing slates, papering ceiling, woodwork plumbing electrical I did it all. I was near tears when you referred to the buying process, thank god for you it went well! Interesting about Carole & Adrian putting in an offer on the same property which gave you a bench mark of price. The condition was really horrible but obviously dragged the price to an affordable level for you. In admiration of what you do! John in Monmouth xx

  • What a wonderful vlog. Terry and Ash, you two have worked so hard and your background story is very heartwarming. Your down to earth attitude and work ethic is paying off in spades. Your loving comments about Tracey and Tony underscores your family strength and will keep your perseverance alive in all the hard work yet to come. I continue to admire all you have accomplished in such a short time. Tracey and Tony have absolutely turned the cottage from an unlivable derelict into a cozy warm haven, (sans kitchen and bathroom … but they too are just over the horizon). The added bonus, must I never forget, is Sweet Jonathon … who is just the cherry on the top. Kudoes always from, PA, USA.

  • I think this has to be one of my favourite vlogs, a step by step of your journey, right from the beginning. Had to smile when you talked about the bath Terry bought for your home in England. Your tribute to Tracy was beautiful and very well deserved, she truly is inspiring. 💗

  • Great series watching the restoration. Listening to you all speak reminds me of my grandparents, both born in Gateshead (U.K) and moved to Australia in 1929-1931. Still have relatives "up north" and all great people too!

  • Such a relief to hear that you guys argue from time to time too!! Doing a renovation as a couple is so challenging, you all do so well. When I’m working on our renovation (or paid building work) and getting tired and knackered and feel like giving up, I often think of Tracy, and remember how she soldiers on. It really helps! 👍
