You were meant to buy and lovingly restore this chateau. The previous owners couldn’t be more grateful for you. The fact that you don’t come from money but making your dream come true through hard work, perseverance, intelligence and natural charm is even more intriguing. May your channel grow consistently and large to help provide funds for the restoration. Many blessings to you and your family.
The castle couldn't have gotten a better new owner! It's amazing to see with how much dedication, ideas research and passion you treat this wonderful castle 🏰
Having a house like this is always strange to me. You constantly need to have people around you. You basically have a 24/7 staff working on the grounds and in the house, and someone has to manage them all. Then there is privacy... It looks amazing but I often wonder how people deal with that (especially introverts).
I think what happened with Château de Dampierre unfortunately happens with many old estates - the descendants die off or eventually run out of money to properly upkeep it, so it falls into disrepair and even ruin and the lands and buildings are sold off. If they're lucky, a man like you buys them! Someone who is committed to seeing the property restored to its former historical glory. Thank goodness this place wasn't left to ruin, or worse, demolished. Thanks for the financial overview, Antoni!
BEST WISHES TO YOU
Danke

675k euro? Wow that’s incredible. Good for you for restoring it and thank you for giving the straight numbers.
So appreciate your transparency on the costs! I know it’s not always easy to discuss these things. Loved your story of the auction! Would love to know what you set as a restoration budget as that will normally surpass the initial cost of buying the chateau. Thanks for being on KZhead and sharing your magnificent home
It is insane how many Castles actually exist in France. Standing castles with private residencies and historic ruins make up about 45.000 in total which is the most amount in the World. Absolutely insane! No wonder France is such a prominent country when it comes to them and inspired so many authors and directors. Countless of books and movies took inspiration even Disney. I was there myself and couldn't believe how stunning so many of them looked and how good the condition of a lot of them is. What's more is the amount of details they put into them like their vast gardens, furniture and so much more. So much beauty and elegance. I really like how the french like you buy them and renovate them but also want to preserve their history. Architecture like this would otherwise slowly vanish and be forgotten. You gained knowledge before buying this chateau and this is clearly visible in all of your videos so I'm glad someone like you acquired it. Many unfortunately just buy and don't respect the history behind it and just change everything. You are an amazing person and I only ever wish you the very best in your new beautiful chateau Antoni 😊❤
Though i guess not all have this size? Many Domaine's just look like villa's. Or do i make a mistake qualifying those as chateau's?
It is not just like in France it is like all across in Europe. All of them are under protection so you can’t just change everything on these buildings. The ownership is comes with an obligation towards the government to restore the building and it’s surroundings. The sale prices may feels low but the renovation costs are enormous not to mention the maintance costs and the utility bills. Here in Hungary we have countless castles and mansions like this. I actually live like 150 meter away from one. I saw it neglecting through decades because nobody has wanted it, then finally someone came and saved it. It’s got restored and repurposed as an event facility. Weddings, classical concerts and other cultural activities happening now in there. Just a few examples what you can find here or on google. Festetics palace, castle of Tura, Esterházy castle of Fertõd and so on. Take a look at these buildings if you have time. I promise it’s worth it.
For your general knowledge, France has the most castles in the world but the country with the most per square kilometre is Belgium! :)
@@sandrarodrigueencourt2634 I live in Belgium and I have heard of this statistic also - however, I am puzzled by it because I feel I see many more castles driving through France than what I see driving through small Belgium.
@@sandrarodrigueencourt2634i think it’s Wales actually 😊
The house was clearly meant for you.
Antoni, thank you for providing that information on the economics of purchasing and renovating your chateau. Was curious what your long-term plans are, i.e., whether you will live there, use it as a museum or perhaps as an AIrbnb? Based on the work you have done on the gate houses, it is clear that the quality of the work is top notch!
Wow - I'm staggered. We've just spent roughly the equivalent of €1M (about AUD$1.5M) renovating our home in Sydney when we could have moved to France and lived it up in a chateau with 40 rooms! Seriously - thank you for breaking the taboo and sharing this with us. I would never have imagined such a low entry price, at least compared to Sydney prices. Perhaps we can broaden the scope of our planned move to the country in the next 10 years or so. Well done and cheers from (expensive) Australia - David
Yeah you could but why would you want to live in a chateau with 40 rooms? Thats probably the last thing I want.
@@fh2234 Absolutely. BIt of tongue-in-cheek there. After our renovation (nothing like 40 rooms!), we're not going anywhere soon.
@@deldridg I am from Europe and I would love to live in Australia. People like the things they dont have access to somehow.
@@fh2234 The grass is always greener on the other side, as they say. However, it's certainly not true in reality (most of the time). I'm lucky to have seen much of the world and am very happy with my lot in life. Perhaps you could visit this lovely country of ours. 🙂
not only that, as an architect I know this Castle in a "livible" quality will cost multymillions. I am from Germany and I have expandet three mansions. 1000 Squaremeter 6 Mio. This property is so big, you need personal to clean it... @@deldridg
Wow! That's a great story of the auction. It's incredible that chateaux can be so relatively low-priced when the cost to build one new would be so very high. Yours is beautiful!
Love your channel and its such a joy to see what a great steward you are to this magnificent Chateau ! Thank you for opening your Chateau so we can watch you return it to its former glory and in such a respectful way !
Glad you were able to get the chateau for a good price
The Château is in very good hands! I hope you can somehow develop a good relationship with the family (or some family members) who sold the lands and the buildings so that historical significances can be documented and the correct records maintained. Beautiful work so far, thanks for your dedication!
Thank you for being so transparent about the upfront cost. The acquiring costs are a one-time cost, as well as big renovations (at least for a couple of generations). I am more interested in the yearly running costs. You talked briefly about the people working around the chateau but there is also heating, electricity, maintenance work and many more hidden costs. Do you budget these? If so, how much do you budget on a yearly basis. Thanks again for being so open, really helps to map out a future project for myself !
I’d estimate for the size of the chateau’s curtilage, and regular landscaping about $50k, but maintenance depends on the final renovation’s condition and ongoing consumption costs (assuming that it’s primarily heated/cooled via electrical utilities) at least another $15k (possibly much more).
@@DrMJJr Yeah, there's a reason no one wants to buy these homes - they are a money pit. It's why they have to be sold in the first place, and for so little (my 1 bed apartment in London is worth almost as much as his buying price). You will never be able to resell it for what you put into it. So preservation and conversion into a historic monument is probably the only option, with a guest housing if the location is desirable. Watching people supposedly with relatively little cash buy these properties leaves me with mixed feelings.
Thanks Antoni. That's very insightful. I'm loving all of you people who wish to restore these beautiful pieces of architecture. I'm enjoying the difference with people and their approach at restoration and yours looks like a splendid chance to bring out the beauty of yours. Great score .
Thank you for your transparency. I watch many of these channels and you are the first owner who has really given one a sense of what it would take. Merci!
Thank you for being so open and educating us . I will never own a chateau but I truly enjoy seeing the love and care you take in renovating it and your magnificent taste congratulations

It was good to hear the financial issues brought up by you. Obviously these questions come to mind when we watch your videos. Grateful!
Fascinating! Thanks for sharing. We look forward to seeing the project continue.
I love these historical buildings being preserved for future generations. This is one lucky Chateau and area to have you come in and restore the buildings to such a high standard with such passion.
Damn bro this is so genuine. Refreshing to see something like this where someone is open and honest, without an ego. Thanks for sharing!
I am happy that you are treating this project respectfully and gently. Bon chance mon ami!
Openness and honesty always deserve applause and respect, thank you :)
Good morning ❤ What a blessing Antoni, that you and this magnificent Château became as one… Thank you for all the love your giving her and also for sharing your personal experiences and journey with us… She’s is one beautiful grand building ❤
Thank you for the interesting story of the auction. This Chateau was meant for you. Looking forward to future videos.
This is the most beautiful, magical castle and you are doing such an amazing job “fixing it up”- you have wonderful taste and a real passion, which is obvious. Thank you for sharing the info with us all- speaking for myself, I wouldn’t have a clue about how much something like this would cost, so I really do appreciate your talking to us about it. What a wonderful dream to own this…sigh.
Thank you for sharing a bit of the information surrounding the costs associated with renovating such a beautiful, historical structure. I can better appreciate the magnitude of the project and responsibility you have taken on. I especially appreciate having a better understanding of what goes into renovating a listed building. I did not know how much went into getting permission to move forward with the different aspects of the restorations. It will be amazing to follow the progress. Thank you for sharing this adventure with us.
Thank so much for sharing James
So happy you are the person who purchased this property. What I have seen so far this property will be stunning when completed. Your taste is impeccable. Attention to detail is amazing. Thanks for sharing Deb from North Carolina USA❤😊
Congratulations 🎉 Thank you for sharing information that many of us have questions about. Looking forward to more of videos as this wonderful journey continues.
Spectacular place! Thank you for sharing your story and congratulations for taking on such a wonderful project
Thank you for sharing your story!
This project is very exiting. Thanks for sharing!
Can't wait for the next videos. You're very lucky. Congratulations!!
Very helpful to hear the financials for this project, thank you!
Thank you for sharing so glad you're going to restore this most beautiful castle.
I agree with the others….it was meant to be. Thank you for being so honest. 😊
I remember watching an interview with you about buying this chateau quite some time ago and wished then that you would start a channel to showcase the renovations. I am very excited to watch you transform this beautiful chateau & it's lovely grounds into a home.
Thank you for all the helpful information!
The video was very interesting. The price you paid for the chateau was amazing. A home in the U.S. cost over $600,000 dollars, and there is no comparison to a chateau. The renovation for the Chatelet is expensive and I’m not sure the amount of renovation required in the chateau. The renovations thus far are very good quality. Take care, Ralph Rocchiccioli
Functionally also there's not much practical value on owning one, is not rare either. Kinda like expensive hobby, require lot of expenses to restore and mantain it.
I love this story of how you got the chateau. You were meant to get this property. You're putting alot of thought and care into the restoration of this property. I'm glad that you started your own KZhead channel, I enjoy your video tours 🙂
Thank for sharing the cost information Antoni. I too was curious about it. It is no small undertaking rehabilitating that gorgeous chateau. I can't wait to see more videos as you progress.
Thank you for taking the time to explain this aspect of chateau ownership. It sounds like you got a great deal. The chateau and grounds are beautiful and living there would be a dream. Good luck with your ongoing restoration.
Thanks very much for sharing your story. Wishing you all goods things going forward with your wonderful chateau!
Your enthusiasm for this project is infectious. Its so lovely to see that you achieved a long dream and not following the trend ❤ We are so excited that you're taking us along with you on your journey to turn this gem into a home!

He seems like a lovely guy. The house is lucky to have him.
Auctions are exciting… fantastic you were not outbid! Do you have your own water supply and if not are water cost high to come in and waste? Running costs of chateau seems to be the expensive part
Fascinating. Thank you for sharing the financial aspects.
