About us,
We are a family from the North-East of England following our dream to restore a beautiful abandoned french Château. We discovered the heart stopping Château De Lalacelle in summer of 2020, this beautiful architectural monument Is set in the countryside of North-West France.
The moment we visited the Château we all fell in love, from the beautiful sweeping landscape and forests, to its stunning untouched interiors and magnificent spiral staircase in the turret.
Unfortunately Château De Lalacelle has been abandoned for a number of decades so will need a lot of restoration and DIY.
Please subscribe and follow our families journey, with the up’s and down’s in moving from the UK and Escape to rural France to restore this beautiful building to its former glory.

  • I think you should have a statute of your mother carved and put on a plinth in the middle of the garden she is such a source of strength and help it would be a great compliment to her .

If I were well I would certainly volunteer. I certainly agree with a lot of the other comments a statue would be a wonderful idea for the centre circle.

  • I like fountains. I just don’t think you can have too many and your garden is huge. I like the idea of the circle benches as well around the fountain to enjoy the garden. It should be something grand as it’s the center and should make a statement. I also like the Gazebo idea. Whatever you choose make it a statement piece.

If I were ever able to visit that garden, I think the central circle would be a great spot for a screened pergola to sit under some shade and enjoy a 360 view of the garden.

The sound of the water has a calming effect, drowns out unpleasant noises from your neighbors, helps purify the air, encourages wildlife, cools the air during the heat of the summer and is beautiful in the garden. I love to walk through a garden touching the different textures, smelling the scents and hearing the water, animals and wind stir the leaves.

    • I have to wonder, that if Ash drilled the hole higher up in the wall, they may well have found a cavity.. It is also a plausible theory of it just being a storage area, used for that lower field, seeing as there is that water feature on the other side of the staircase. Ground imaging equipment may help with looking for anomalies, and inviting archeologists to test your site, may be an avenue worth pursuing in the future. The history of the whole area would surely turn up many ancient artifacts. I love watching everyone working so tirelessly to bring this lovely property alive and still be enjoying the place so many years from first seeing it. My garden is 6" of grey hydrophobic sandy soil, ontop of clay. A shovel wont do anything, a pinchbar is the only, slow wat to dig a hole. Got to love gardening.😊 With love, everything is possible. In Australia, it's very tricking gardening with huge gumtrees making a mess 24/7, but they bring happiness with every season, especially with the wildlife that live around our neighborhood.

  • I can feel your joy & excitement, Ash. I don't envy you the work, but I do appreciate when a plan comes together... something incredible that you've created literally from scratch. Cheering you on, Hello to everyone! 👋😁 Pat

  • No idea the size of the middle circle but I suggest a large stone flower pot in the centre and two curved stone benches to mimic the circle edge. A lovely restfull place to sit and enjoy the beauty of the garden. The stone will not require maintenance and the pot can be filled with plants of choice and seasons.

  • Three suggestions ... 1) raised cement statue of child with basket of flowers. 2) a large urn planted with annuals. 3) a round stone seat. So exciting! Colorado Cherri

  • A sundial would make a great centrepiece , without distracting from the ornate design and planting.

  • Terry, the aerial shot of the chateau from above and behind Tracy's cottage is breathtaking, especially when I remember what it looked like in the beginning. It's honestly impressive and inspiring. As for that center space in the garden, have you seen the circular seating with the seats facing outward? That might be a great idea, then in the center something like a pedestal with a plantar or a statue could work well. As always, Ash has done an astounding amount of back-breaking work, and it shows.
