About us,
We are a family from the North-East of England following our dream to restore a beautiful abandoned french Château. We discovered the heart stopping Château De Lalacelle in summer of 2020, this beautiful architectural monument Is set in the countryside of North-West France.
The moment we visited the Château we all fell in love, from the beautiful sweeping landscape and forests, to its stunning untouched interiors and magnificent spiral staircase in the turret.
Unfortunately Château De Lalacelle has been abandoned for a number of decades so will need a lot of restoration and DIY.
Please subscribe and follow our families journey, with the up’s and down’s in moving from the UK to rural France and restoring this beautiful building to its former glory.

  • Great job with repairing the stone wall. Maybe the gates would benefit from a coat of anti-rust treatment and then a coat of anti-rust paint on those gates. Look at how much you improved the staircase railings by giving them a lick of paint. It boggles the mind how hard you have all worked & how much you cooperate & work as a team. I really enjoy seeing Jonathan and Little dog Patrick! ❤️❗️❗️👍👍

  • I think you are right. The stone with the metal half moon was buried with the metal half moon exposed & used as the backer to the inside of the bottom of the gate so the gate wouldn't accidentally be pushed too far inward which could compromise the gate itself & the hinges...Always impressed with your families teamwork.

  • When I watch you rebuild the wall, It’s history your rebuilding, not a wall not gates, history. Every time you find a stone that has purpose, these are puzzle pieces of the past. I think you are doing a amazing job bringing this château back to life. I bet the sprits of the chateau’s past are very pleased with your passion and respect for there home. Thanks for sharing you incredible adventure.

  • I was watching some prior shows with Ash on them and realized he is just the sweetest and hard working person and his light just shines through every segment he is in. Ash and Terry are an amazing couple. Watching how your love story manifested such a beautiful dream, how it draws in others to participate in it is so refreshing in these tense times in the world. You all are an escape to a dream of a more simple loving time. Also you all remind me that reality is the life you create and it is worth all the hard work and dedication one can muster. I haven’t seen Tony on the show for awhile but hope there will be future segments of his appearance. Jonathan seems to have adjusted well and thriving in his new home. Your show is by far my favorite these days. God bless you all!

    • Are there drought resistant hostas? I was thinking that with the lavender that Terry mentioned, perhaps dusty miller or sea drifts both of which would compliment the lavenders for height and flower colour plus are very drought resistant.

    • I don't think hostas are very drought tolerant. I have many - some are good in part sun but definitely need to be well watered. Rhododendron might be good there once established. It's getting them established that may be the issue.

    • @@ashleywaters7198 I had a feeling that you were doing the running when I just saw glimpses of you. I'm really glad to hear that you're going to wait to begin planting. Since you already have a plan, the pathways, irrigation system, water features and statuary can all start as soon as possible. That would be enough to keep even your gang busy until fall, when you can just drop plants into the ground and let nature run its course. I'm aware that you want to use plants that are drought tolerant and will thrive in your climate, but a drip irrigation system would be advisable to get you through lengthy dry conditions. It's worth the investment in saved plants. I lost an established Serbian spruce because I assumed it would make it through a dry spell. I wept real tears when it died. A walled garden of your size would be extremely difficult to water efficiently without irrigation. Beside running hoses around your parterre will damage too many plants. As it is, you'll probably always have to do some hand watering of new plantings, etc. You'll need faucets located strategically around the garden for filling water features, hand watering, spraying down walkways, etc. I'd suggest running the water lines under the pathways. Does the ground freeze there during winter? Do you have a frost line to consider?

  • Patrick supervising Jonathan was priceless! I'm so happy you've been able to tick this job off your to-do list. In this series of videos, you've emphasized that this wasn't a job that you weren't expecting to be doing right now. Indeed, you've been nearly apologetic for doing it now when there are so many other things you need to be working on. It seems to me, though, that it was exactly the job you needed to do because the wall was a safety risk. A while back, I came across a KZhead channel dedicated to restoring a historical home in Galveston, Texas. The owner explained a system she has for prioritizing jobs that makes a lot of sense to me. She, like you, though, often bounces around the list based on what resources she has available at any given time. - Safety - Security - Stop further damage - Structural - Systems - Water - Sewer - Electric - Gas - HVAC - Etc. - Surface But, honestly, we're all just thrilled to see your progress no matter what you're working on so never feel like you're boring us!

  • Fall is the best time for planting. The new plants have the winter to work on their root systems and then the spring to burst into full growth before the heat of summer. Your new private entry way looks terrific!

  • It looks absolutely amazing. The new walls flow seamlessly into the landscaping. Terrys masonry skills are better than many professionals I’ve seen.

  • If you find large stones with the iron imbedded loops...those are for tying up horses. These were both placed outside and inside the gate area. Love the work your family is doing....hard work, but very rewarding.

  • The "little service entrance" looks quite stately. Love the round walls that you created and that emphasize the gate so nicely. Aliums and Lavender will suit well too.

  • Looks fabulous you guys really have put a lot of love and care into the area... I'm sure everyone around can see the fantastic job you guys are doing on what was a once lovely building that was getting lost to time... I'm sure they are happy to see it coming back to life.

  • This is one of my favorite projects to watch for a lot of reasons - to start it was dreaded, and regardless, everyone stepped up to get it done, including Jonathan. Seeing your fantastic friends who helped and the dogs with you the entire time. It is a beautiful setting even though it's a side entrance - not on the radar for some of us. The absolutely amazing results and seeing how satisfied and pleased you are. It was no doubt exhausting work - thank you very much for filming this and sharing with us!

  • What a great job!! I have a large garden on the Isle of Skye and I pick up tips as I watch you all learn as you go, building, planting, renovating, so thank you!!! I am going to attempt to build my own small wall up the driveway. It is so overgrown. Exciting times! 💜

  • Hi, the work that you have done with the back service entrance is amazing!. I used to work at a horse barn and I’ve picked rocks, raked rocks, moved rocks, and oh my goodness you did a lot of work. It turned out so beautiful. So happy for you.!!

  • You simply amaze me with what you as a group can get up to in a few days! I love the extra stones around the wall. Keep it up and someday you might be able to relax a bit ( I mean really take a break and do something you have always wanted to do.) . have yourselves a wonderful week. I look forward to the next video.

  • Phenomenal job on the wall and gate! Excited to see when it’s all pointed and finished. There may have been just a single row of stone right under the gate when it’s in its closed form for all those large stones you pointed out. Just a guess.

    • Absolutely right and the stone with the half moon metal piece is in the center to hold the middle frame of the gate so it stays straight and in line. Sorry, you will have to dig and fit those large stones in the dirt but you will be pleased with the result
