VARA K&N High Desert Challenge Sunday Flag Race at Willow Springs Raceway. Driver Brad Newman, starting last, passes dozens of cars to take the top position in E-Production. The car was built and supported trackside by Frank Monise Motors. www.frankmonisemotors.com
Great drive in a car set up to perfection! The way it passed Porsche's, Lotus Europa, Triumph TR's superb driving, another two laps he would have lapped himself!!! Great to see those old Brit sports cars still going strong!
My goodness that’s an amazing Sprite! My compliments to the skilled mechanics and this fearless and very talented driver.
Very polite race. Nice cars. Nice track. Thanks for the ride.
Excellent to watch. Grunt & gonads in perfect harmony. Made the other drivers look like flower pickers. Gobbled the cars up like Pac-Man on a promise. Love to know the specs on the Sprite. Some set up. Bravo to Brad & Frank.
Brad seems to shift like me at times, but I couldn't choose and hold the line like he does! A great drive!
A properly built, tuned and set up car, plus driver ability!
Awesome driving Brad, and that car must have a secret jet engine! Excellent in turn 9!
Now I can truly understand Carrol Shelby, thanks great vid.
I remember Westwood track in the early 70's Coquitlam, BC There was a 63 midget 1098 always swapping first with a 289 Cobra. Unreal cars
No Mk IV Sprite I had ever went that rapidly - if its still running on a 1275 block something quite magical has been done to that car !!
THANK YOU,VERY COOL
Damn, what do you have in that thing? I love seeing the various cars. Beautiful
Something tells me it was a technical or mechanical issue in qualifying that stuck my man here in back at the start. That is one hot li'l car!
Rick C Thats exactly what happened. We were heading out in qualifying the day before when the rotor in the distributor disintegrated.
@@racerxlilbro that's tragic, but you made a show of it!
This must be practice and nobody is pushing as hard. but there is that checkered flag.....
I love seeing a Spridget make a MG B eat dust!
Having owned & driven one [+ some of the other models in the race] I'm thinking that this Sprite has something a bit 'extra' under the hood. And probably the suspension has been 'tweaked' some as well. Awesome performance though; hats off to the driver!
It's highly modified and very quick!
@@stevesgarageshow elaborate, please

Great driving! What the heck motor in the Healy so you could pass so many peeps? Or just great driving?
Dan Fortune 1275cc
I like how he doesn't cop to the great driving bit, but yeah that's some great driving
First E-P Sprite I’ve seen. What motor does it have.
Joseph Lineberger 1275cc
It looks like he was the only one racing. He passes traffic like the other cars we're on a Sunday Drive. I find it difficult to believe that that little sprite can motor right past that Porsche 911. Seems like the other drivers weren't trying very hard.
I'd like to know what was out in front of him that he seemed not to be able to catch up to,came close in lap traffic, but not quite quick enough to catch and pass.
timothy okane There was a beautiful Datsun roadster running in D-production I couldn’t quite catch.
Yikes! What the hell was wrong with those other cars, were they just touring?
Tech inspection didn’t notice the turbocharger?
😂
some of those cars being passed are pretty much 2 litre vehicles . Sprite has less than 1 litre stock engine (A series, i think) so what is going on here, the rest look like they are out for a Sunday drive to the pub....
I think most likely 1275cc, same as Cooper For even 1310, bored out to 3rd oversize. It certainly went well.
Andy Jeffs It’s a 1275.
OK, fastest flat out, what's going on in the engine/gearbox department?
Even the Triumph Herald was ahead of the Lotus monoplace...shomething wrong here, shurely? The Midget driver seemed to be the only one who realised this was a 'race'!
I don't know what the hell is going on here. He just blows by everybody.
This is like when I play GranTurismo 2.
Maybe it was a dream he was having or all the other drivers were in their first race, good job anyhow.
Why does that look like an MG Midget?
The Austin Healey Sprites starting with the second generation (Mark II) were identical to the MG Midgets. The badge was the only difference.
Jet fuel?! 🤔
Not likely to be running on kerosene;-)
It's probably 110 octane. And leaded.
Surprised! Typically a Sprite is ONLY competitive with Other sprites .. as they are NOT quick cars regardless of $$$ spent on them. 3/4 of the cars on that track should have / would have left the Sprite for dead. in a real race. Absolutely So the Minis and Lotii. Unless of course they weren't actually racing but simply having a nice 'outing' .
Dont like these fake "races" where everybody is either going 40 mph or they pretend to put up a fight, then pull over to let the guy pass. Bleah !
