Full Coverage Equipe Classic Racing Snetterton Libre Race MGB Crash at the End with Replays
Those of you that follow my channel will know I crashed fairly badly at the end of this race. The car was in a bad way but I am now just over a week into the repair and things are progressing well.
Up until the crash I would say that this was one of my favourite races; I was having a great midfield battle with Rob Johnson in the red TR4 and Guy Parry-Williams in the blue Austin Healey 3000. the racing was intense in places but we all gave each other room, I wish it could have continued until the flag.
When I look back at the accident it does seem rather strange; when it happened I thought I must have been over the outer kerb and onto the AstroTurf, looking closely at the video I think I was just on the kerb. The steering wheel was pointing straight but the throttle was wide open. I have added some slow motion replays at the end of the video for you to judge for yourselves.
The front facing camera turned around towards the end of the race giving a different view of the driving, it was rattling against the car too hence the strange noise.

Hello David !... You've been part of the inspiration to get me into MG racing for the first time and 2024 is my rookie season!. I've got the car and its a beauty. The weak link is the driver !. Would love a quick chat if you have the time. I've got some work to do and some advice appreciated.
Inspiring me on with the MGB build for next seasons sprints & hillclimbs!
Hi David. Fantastic in car footage on your videos of you racing.Almost gives an armchair racer like myself a chance to experience what it’s really like to race in such a great racing series and hope you have her back on the track soon after your recent unlucky off.🤞👍
Many thanks, the repair has progressed well so far, hoping to have the body straight again this week.
Great editing, tense drama, great battles between dissimilar cars, I loved it. Of course sorry about the shunt, but I knew it was coming after having seen your previous shorts. Snetterton looks so very fast, but beautiful.
Many thanks Lance, one of the reason I like the Libre series is the variety of cars, faster cars like the Healey easily get past on the straights, but I can sometimes out brake them going into the corners.
That was so exciting!! And a big Oh No! At the end… did you notice all the skid marks on the track show all the other cars that have done the exact same thing on that corner? It must be those riffle things that upsets the suspension just at the wrong place and time.
Excelent driving!
You were taking those corners with fantastic aggression! I really enjoyed watching that. So sorry about your crash - it is a tricky, unforgiving circuit I think. I watched a mate of mine a few years ago end up in the barriers racing Caterhams. Good luck with the repairs: I'm looking forward to seeing you back behind the wheel soon.
Many thanks Chris, the crash certainly caught me unawares, I'm hoping to have the car ready for Silverstone in June.
Oh dang! Sorry about the car bud. It was getting good too. Blue was coming to play again. Hope it's not too bad.
Thrilling stuff thoose sprite like little cars don't half go on the straights!
Already been said...but fantastic video and sound editing. Loved the entire video...except for the end. Tough break. Look forward to more content!
Probably one of my favourite races up to that point!
Up to the point of the crash, it was a great battle between you and the guy in the TR4. I love watching these old beauties on track so much more than modern racing. I read that you have made great progress with the repair. Best wishes on the rest of the process. I'm looking forward to seeing your B on track again soon.
Many thanks Trent, certainly one of my favourite races up to that point!
We saw that left foot braking Mr Silky Wilky, all very impressive , 👍👍👍 sorry about your crash, that damage looks quite extensive. I had an 'off' at Cadwell many years ago in my AH Sprite, my only recommendation is crack on with the rebuild as quickly as possible, don't let it hang over you.
Many thanks James, I started stripping the car down on the Tuesday and had it rolling again by Wednesday (replaced the crossmember). By Friday it was with Max Cawthorn over in March, he has an MGB alignment jig. I'm hoping to have the straight body back later this week.
Exhilarating to watch with the volume turned up. Seeing previous tire skids there at that very spot of the track…got the best of someone else too? Glad you’re ok! Keep us posted.
Many thanks for your message , I was the second car to hit the same barrier that day. There should be an update video next week with any luck.
Great footage! Edge of my seat. Hope you get her sorted quickly.
Many thanks Paul, repairs are under-way!
Sorry about the prang ! But it's a great video, I hope you make many more...
I hope so too, apologies for the lack of content recently, we started what should have been a 3 month house renovation in February and it's still going!
Great job David, thank you very much for this video! The camera towards your face is interesting, it allows to see your reactions while driving, and how much you enjoy driving, maybe keep this angle for the next videos? The footwork is always neat, congrats man! I wish you good luck with the repairs, hope you can drive again soon! ;)
Many thanks for your message Constantin, the camera towards me happened in error as it usually points forward! I did really enjoy it for this race, especially for the battle with the TR4. I think an in-car camera pointing at me is a great idea.
@@davidrussellwilks You're welcome! Great! ;)
Wow, you were gettin it Dave ! Fine line there between winning/crashing.
Probably one of my favourite races up to the point Michael, I was getting passed on the straights by the faster cars but the B really was holding it's own through the bends.
Brliliant stuff , judging by the tyre marks , looks like a couple of cars went off at the same spot.
Yes, I don't think I was the only driver to hit the barrier that weekend!
The rear end seemed a bit snap happy in places, perhaps you could look at the setup after the rebuild. Are you using Dunlop racing tyres or something more modern?
We have to use the Historic Dunlops, they are certainly a bit sketchy in the dry and truly abysmal in the wet...
