Today I go racing at Grattan Raceway in Michigan to race in an all Sprite and Midget race as part of the VSCDA Sprite Midget Racing Series. The 1968 Austin Healey Le Mans Sprite Prototype Coupe Chassis # HAN9-R-238 and the 1969 Austin Healey Targa Florio Sprite Chassis # HAN9-R-250 were in attendance.

The rear view camera gives a nice picture and the exhaust sound sounds good!
Keeping history alive.
Hi Steve. When l saw the Le Mans Sprite it reminded me that one of our "regulars " who drank in our pub raced a sprite at the 24 hrs . And then when l saw the signatures his autograph was there ! Clive Baker ! He lived in Torquay (7 miles down the coast ) and had a motor accessory shop there. He used to occasionally bring a car to the pub but l don't recall the Le Mans . He had a brother Brian but l don't think he drove competitively. Clive certainly enjoyed a pint or two ! Keith, my twin brother ,got on famously with Clive and gave him a signed photo of the LeMans . Keith passed away 2 years ago and l found a number of signed photos . I asked a collector to value them and that was the last l saw of them ! I would have gladly sent you the signed Le Mans knowing of your love for the sprites . Oh well !
Sounds like a typical day at the racetrack; if something can go wrong, it probably will. That said, an enjoyable video!!
It's 51 years since I bought my first white bugeye. A month ago I picked up my ceramic white MX5 Miata. Nostalgia is fantastic, but so is 6 gears, 2l twin cam, 4 wheel discs, air con and power steering. All power to you though.
Great video. Midgets were my car when the other teens were driving Mustangs. Of course I lost all the drag races. Thanks for sharing your weekend of racing with us.
Beautiful car. Your videos are always entertaining.
Well it's because Steve is unassuming, modest, and plain factual.
Wow didn't know I was so close. I've got a 61 that I bought with Just a roll bar & bolt on rear coils lol bought it out of southwest MI 25 yrs. ago while still in Lansing. Now I'm wonderin' if it could of been hobby raced there, back in the '80s early 90's? Thanks Again Steve for the added *treat* with the track vids.
Hey Steve, I really enjoy your videos especially the vintage British stuff. My son and I also race sprites with the VSCDA. Maybe will run into you sometime, not literally of course😂 Dan
Nice to see those cars being both used and preserved .
I hope you go to more races. Love seeing sprigets race together.
Well racing old cars, even Sprites and Midgets have down days for being competitive. I expect you will have the problem corrected by your next video. It will be interesting to see the cause. Thanks for bringing your car and videos of all those owners and drivers that enjoyed the friendship with like minded souls.
That exhaust sound makes me tingle.
From the cars that were passing, yes!
Loved this one! I’ve owned a Midget for the past 26 years. Wonderful little cars!
Thats an amazing grid to be part of! Thanks for sharing 😎
lots of cool info about the special cars at the track, thank you!
Too bad the clutch acted up, looked like you were having a ton of fun up until then! Brake late, arrive early!
Too bad about your clutch but I do like your Sprite. It's a nice looking car.
Cool, I've run laydown enduro karts at Grattan. It's a tough track, I wasn't prepared for the off camber corners and it took me 2 or 3 practice sessions to make the first lap! After the initial slow start I did well. Ran there a few times. The second trip we brought fishing poles because of the neat little fishing ponds inside the track. While my racing buddy and my father fished with lures, I concentrated first on catching a tiny bluegill. Then I used that bluegill to catch the largest bass I'd ever caught and won our little unspoken competition. Lots of great memories from that track and those years.
Great that cars still race Steve. Even the best mechanics can't anticipate every failure! The important thing is you tried to race.👍
Liked your video btw really like how u did n car an when u broke
They have vintage days out here at Willow springs race way too, couple of times per year. Lol, nice thanks BigAl California.
Beautiful blue sky day.
Awesome video. Love that you have an inventory for parts.
Great video-thank you for doing this!
Great stuff , thanks Steve
Amazing camera work. Well done Steve
Great event, nice to get that little racer back on the track, plus some wrenching content too...
Moss, Clarke, and Hill are looking down thinking these chaps are pretty good. Many thanks
Great stuff, better luck next time.
I'm always impressed with your trouble-shooting.
And he didn't say "Spridget" once. It looked like a wonderful day.
I suppose the good thing is that you got to run the car after it being laid up so that must have been fun. Lets hope it is an easy fix. Also, I noticed that you don't double de-clutch your down changes. It's a handy habit to get into. I have been doing it ever since I learned to drive and successfully rev matching is a challenge I often set for myself. 👍
Allright, great video. Goes to say you won't win them all.
I’m surprised you can see out of the windscreen with all those rear view mirrors 🤣
Little buzzing going round and round!
Better luck next time!
Not sure what the catch can is used for.
A fun track to play on, pity about the clutch. I wonder if the problem is the master cylinder seal failing. The rebleed after fitting the second slave might have disguised it. Also, is the step up from the bottom of the trumpet to the carb throat intentional? I thought it was supposed to match the carb accurately.
I haven't been able to find the proper trumpets for these carbs yet so I had to run what I had.
Coool
😎👍
Off topic but did u sell all the TVRs u hav?
I still have two TVRs so look for more videos on them in the future!
@@ThisWeekWithCars been look for one for a while ,, any place to look n your opinion ?
Shame about the clutch, probably too many new parts. Remember new parts are untested parts.
O
Bad Luck.
