  • You should introduce copepods, daphnia and seed shrimps to your pond. It'll really pay off with helping control the algae. They'll eat the algae and have evolved specifically to cope with their ponds drying out. It's just adding to the biodiversity of the habitat and pond ecosystem.

  • 4:57 Termitophile mite(?), right side on the darker fungus comb. Those termites are definitely Macrotermitinae. I would guess Ancistrotermes pakistanicus but the footage is blurry and they could be a Microtermes sp. or Odontotermes sp. The fungus comb appears to be that of A. pakistanicus.

    @lolc3-po410@lolc3-po4105 жыл бұрын
    • Ancistrotermes can be differentiated by Microtermes by the number of soldier castes, two for the former and one for the latter. These two can both be discerned from Odontotermes by the mandibles, Odontotermes have a characteristic tooth on the interior of the left mandible (the right mandible may have an almost non existent tooth or no tooth at all), location on the mandible may vary. All of these features are not easily noticeable though and you might need to do some dissecting or use some means of magnification. Odontotermes are also monomorphic in their soldier caste, all of the Macrotermitinae in your area have a dimorphic worker caste.

    • These are the best comments! Thank you so much and yes that was a termophilic organism! Edit: what termite species would you like me to add into the tank? :D

      @nordicants6232@nordicants62325 жыл бұрын
    • Nordic Ants Any Kalotermid would probably fit in the vivarium without much if any disruption, since all they need is dead dry wood and seldom leave it. You can even put it up against the glass to observe them. For fungus growers I suppose Microtermes/Ancistrotermes since they are opportunists and nest where ever and are generally very small. The remaining Termite species are either subterranean (Rhinotermitidae), nasutes (Nasutitermitinae) or build intricate mounds or feed off of humus (Termitinae) or build mounds and grow fungus (Macrotermitinae) These ones might be more disruptive and/or not have the resources to thrive in the vivarium so I’d advise caution. It is possible that the best termite control are other termites lol. On that note Kalotermids might be a structural pest (so be wary of nuptial flights in that room) and Microtermes/Ancistrotermes can damage living vegetation I believe. I would say Kalotermids are the safest bet but to be honest I don’t really have a clue how any of them will interact within the vivarium.

  • What size tank was this? Really awesome tank. Ant keepers are starting to become prominent among hobbyists. I would love ants I'm fascinated and they could be predator and prey with my animals but I'm not a pet store. I am at my max number of 5 setups and that's more then I wanted. I am not the greatest at commentary either but I think the more comfortable you get and the more you rehearse it will go better. You do good man it's hard. I'm focused on the Native Frogs and Toads of my State of Pennsylvania (I'm from US) I am focusing on herping and showing the environment and helping keepers who have the natives care for them. The way I look at it is I don't support poaching I am for doing it legally obtaining animals and I feel someone has to help those who have those animals! So that's me. Would be cool if you checkout some of my videos I have bioactive setups and introduce other insects into my enclosures. Cool tank man!

    • @@nordicants6232 ok so i think it may be Chilobrachys Huahini (Thailand Fawn). If that is in fact what it is then they will need moist but not swampy substrate, they are very fast, old worlds like this tend to have pretty strong venom, not deadly but very painful. From what ive read they dont tend to be very "aggressive" if disturbed they will usually run into their burrow. They like to dig burrows and will web quite a bit if not given enough depth to dig. I dont think it would be a good idea to handle one of these tarantulas because if they dont have the chance to flee into their burrow then im sure they wouldnt hesitate to bite. Also make sure they have decent ventilation and dont allow mold growth or mites. They can eat crickets, superworms, roaches...

    • @@nordicants6232 i looked at the video of her and with you saying she's from Thailand i looked at species in Thailand that matched your spider. That was the one that looks just like yours. I could be wrong but im pretty sure thats what she is. Glad i could help. Really keep an eye out for mold and mites as they can easily kill her. You can add some potato bugs(rolly pollies) and they will eat mites. Dont let mold grow. If mold does start to grow then decrease the moisture and increase ventilation. Ive subbed so in update videos when shes older it should be easier to tell what species she is.

  • I wonder what microbial ecosystems have developed and how they are helping or hindering your vivarium's ecosystem ? Perhaps you could introduce some other microbiomes, that you would find in your local forest at different ground floor levels ? And how might that enhance the health of the vivarium ? Does your vivarium get normal daylight hours of sunlight and nighttime hours of moonlight ? I see just one thing missing. Wind ! How perhaps could you create internal wind every now and then ? Great video, thanks for sharing !

    @BrightGarlick@BrightGarlick5 жыл бұрын
    • Thank you so much for the ”brilliant” comment ;D yes i think about the bacteria diversity a lot! Hence i have used sticks, sand, dirt and even animals from many different places allowing the tank to have such a diverse bacterial fauna that no species manages to overtake the tank, not mentioning all the possibilities that such a diversity could allow!

    • The meteorology of the tank! It is on my balcony and gets the same amount of sunlight as a real jungle would, it is rarely windy in a jungle because of the dense vegetation therefore i have placed a long breathing tissue over the tank that I randomly(just like in nature) remove to stimulate different conditions!
