SALAMANDERS and PARASITIC Ants Vivarium update! Second episode.

2020 ж. 20 Сәу.
35 995 Рет қаралды

The second of many updates on this enormous piece of forest within a container. There are obviously less animals in this one as the foundational entities have to settle first. Although, in this video we will introduce two salamanders and two ant colonies!
Thank you for watching and have a fANTastic day!

  • Your Camponotus queen reminds me of one of my F.fusca queens. In founding I always saw her pulling the cotton, right now with more than a 100 workers to serve her every need, she is still the first one that comes rushing out when a pheromones about food or sugar reach the nest. She made my heart skip so much the first times I noticed her foraging out, by now I just see it as her letting me know she's still in good condition and showing her daughters how things are done properly. Guess not all queens were ment to be stay at home moms.

  • This has got to be the most spectacular and ambitious vivarium ever! I love your attitude and approach, you always educate and entertain at the same time. That Queen just committed suicide in a very deliberate way...weird doesn’t begin to cover it. The salamanders are exquisite, and the speed with which life is happening in there is staggering. That periwinkle flowers is lovely, and just like the ones blooming in my front yard today, it will establish itself really well. I can’t get over how beautiful your waterfall is, and the viewing angles are ALL fabulous. I would have my eyes glued to this miniature world for hours and hours at a time if this was in my place...my beehives and yard flora and fauna already get me...my front yard is planted as a forest edge, the side yard is shaping up to be an insane moss and fern garden with various fungi staking their claims. The back yard is mostly edible and medicinal, and my two hives live there. One of the ant colonies in the front just had a nuptial flight, so I know the other five I know about won’t be far behind. Your vivarium often gives me ideas for sections of my yards, it is really cool to see how similar parts of your creation are to what happens in a large open space that is generally wild with just a little careful seeding and weeding. I am loving this new project of yours, and I can’t wait to see how it evolves. Did you plant any wild strawberries in there? Stay safe, and keep helping it all happen. Thanks again for being such a bright spot every time you upload. You do great critter conversation by the way. 🖤🇨🇦

    • Nordic Ants You are one of those channels that I click on as soon as I see an upload...and you never disappoint. I have been working on creating a garden that is mostly the way Nature wants it...I just give her a little helping hand here and there, but mostly it self sustains once the right things are in place. I am going to try to catalogue the creatures who call it home this year, and I notice I have a lot more wildlife and insect variety than my neighbours with lawns they never use. Is it bad that I still miss the hammerhead worm? He was a favourite, but the salamanders might begin to appease for his loss. Thank you for wishing me safe and well, please kindly do the same yourself. The vivarium and subscribers like me need you.🖤🇨🇦

  • When the vivarium reaches population limits and you’re ready for predators you should really consider adding a breeding pair of tiger beetles. They are very active and quick predatory beetles that also happen to absolutely love ants. They are very interesting to watch stalk their prey.

    • @@nordicants6232 Just because you said she was not doing the normal behavior that's typical of that species. I don't know that much about European ants let alone Camponotus.(Had one queen who produced like 6 workers over two years before dying) I was just speculating. Like that maybe she was a parasite species or something and that's why she was foraging, to try to find a host colony. I know her gaster and mandibles don't really look like she was the fighting type though so ehh? Or maybe a semiclaustral species. Or perhaps she just had bad genes and wasn't meant to survive. Anywho shes dead now so I guess it doesn't really matter lol.
