  • As someone with many years of radio control modelling behind me it would have been interesting to see how you have positioned the receiver aerials to keep them out of the metal faraday cage that is the tanks hull. The circuit board type of aerial must make them harder to hide than the normal co-ax wire used for 2.4GHz. (I use FrSky equipment with both types of aerial) While the Taranis with the OpenTx operating system is relatively low cost and very flexible for programming it is one of the hardest to set up of most modern radio sets so I can sympathise with your problems in setting up. Good work in geting it to the running stage it is at now.

  • Absolutely killer Tony, she looks so good bud. Cracking choice on chargers and batteries. I have those make of batteries in my motorbikes. Do you disconnect the batteries and permanently connect them to the smart chargers once you have run the tank it's what I do with the bikes. This is the part of the build I am least looking forward to, I've seen on the forum this can be a real ball ache to set up. I've just had my paks confirmed this week so hopefully turn up in the next couple of weeks I ended up getting everything, and also have a rear convoy light which is a nice bit of kit from a forum member. I like your layout of the electronics very nice install. Can't wait to see her running, like you not sure my misses will be to happy with me chewing up the lawn, carpet idea is genius way to move the tank about. Look forward to the next installment bud.

    • Good morning Gary and thanks for the positive comments. These are the batteries which Armortek recommended and so far working perfect. I also use the Ctek conditioners on my Quad and mower, they are brilliant bits of kit. So, I have hard wired(using the connectors supplied by Ctek) to the batteries and only disconnect the conditioners when not driving for a while or when ready to drive. I leave the batteries connected at all times as the Ctek conditioners are designed to allow this. I too was dreading this part, but once the radio set was bound to the receiver (by other people who know what they are doing :-) ) it was really just plug and play...Adrian from the Forum was a god send for tweaking the handset to operate exactly as I wanted it. I am a total newbie to RC and this was a challenge, but you are connected to some great people on the Forum who will be there to help. I know the guy you are talking about and I saw the Convoy light. I was also tempted to buy the Jack he sells as well. I did buy one of his Bosch lights and will be installing this at a later stage. When you are up and running, you know where to come to drive it :-) Have a great weekend Gary.

    • @Tony's Workshop morning Tony, I totally forgot to ask about you hand set/reciever my memory is completely shot bud. Is that the Taranis X9D plus? And how is it to use? Sorry for all the questions. I'm using the Frsky FSI6X on all my 1/16 and it easy to use not sure it will have enough channels for the panther..

      @garyrafferty8653@garyrafferty8653 Жыл бұрын
    • @@garyrafferty8653 Hi Gary, no problem...I am using the Armortek recommended FrSky Taranis X9D Plus 2019 Transmitter with FrSky X8R 2.4G Telemetry Receiver. The biggest problem was trying to bind..I gave up and took it to a model shop near me, where they managed to bind it...After that it was fairly straight forward. The tank doesn't use the full 16 channels available as its functions are drive forward/reverse, steering, gun fire, turret operation, gun elevation, MG, light and sounds. So operationally very easy. Hope this helps.

  • I haven’t given up building my 2005 Tiger kit……yet. I will say your videos have inspired me to dust off my kit and get back to building. I’m not the spring chicken I was when I bought the kit almost 20 years ago so I strain my back just lifting the top hull off. I finally bought a lift cart for it. Still in the process of getting more tools. Also waiting to hear back from Armortek on the motion pack and spare parts needed for my build. Do you think Adrian will make house calls here in the states to help with my build? ;)

    @chrisw8417@chrisw8417 Жыл бұрын
    • Hi Chris, I really hope you do re-start...in fact in the 20 years that have passed Armortek have greatly improved the option packs and made it more user friendly to set up..it is very much plug and play and all the leads are clearly labelled. They have also improved the smoke system since I purchased mine, so you will find it easier than you expect. Not sure whether Adrian would 🤣 but I am sure that if you get really stuck the forum will help you. If you are now using the table lift cart this will also help with an improved working height. I also suffer from back pain from a motorcycle accident years ago, so the correct working height for me is so important. I hate bending over as it really aches. I have had some comments asking me to do a short video on the tools I used to build this model and I will be putting this up soon. It may also help you. Good luck Chris with your re-start and hope you continue to follow my projects. Have a great weekend.

    • @@tonys_workshop Tony yes a vid on the tools you used would be really helpful for those of us mechanically challenged. Though I have assembled 2 live steam locomotives they were Japanese kits that went together like a fine Swiss watch. This tank is quite a different “beast”. I hope your bike accident wasn’t too bad. I had 3 Harley’s at one time. Gave up the last one a few years ago. I really miss riding. Though I’ve had the kit for almost 20 years I’ve had life interfere and some distractions over the years. The biggest was another British “kit”. I owned a Daimler ferret scout car mark 2/3. That was indeed the coolest “toy” I ever owned. It had a Rolls Royce engine. These older kits are kinda primitive compared to the new ones. I really need a set of hull braces. I can’t believe these original kits with the heavy cast turrets didn’t include hull braces. The new motion packs would require new holes drilled in the hulls to mount the motors. When one barely knows what end of a screwdriver to use the idea of drilling new precise holes is a bit daunting. Your build looks amazing. Thanks again and have a good weekend also.

  • Hello again Tony. If you don’t mind me asking, where did you get your scissor lift to go under the tank? I can’t find one with a low enough profile the tank can go over.! Cheers. Chris.

    @chrisblackler3338@chrisblackler3338 Жыл бұрын
    • Hi Chris. I guess you are talking about the one that elevates the tank not the main table lift? If it is just the small scissor lift, they are widely available on the net, but I got mine from Amazon: www.amazon.co.uk/Motorcycle-Scissor-Lift-Hydraulic-Adjustable/dp/B0BDMD9HF7/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?keywords=scissor%2Blift&qid=1678977262&sr=8-1-spons&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9hdGY&th=1 As you would have seen on my last video, it is still ,just slightly too tall to slide under easily, so I would use a couple of pieces of 18mm ply to roll the tracks on to and then elevate. If you are not at that stage yet the a gently tilt lift up and slide the jack under does work. Hope this helps
