Join me as I set off on another epic tank build. This time the incredible 1/6 scale Hetzer or Jagdpanzer 38 tank by Armortek.
In this video - I re-wire the battery connections and power up the drive motors to test the tracks for the very first time..
Hope you enjoy

  • Brilliant Tony, that video will be so useful to anybody building or thinking of building, it lets them know exactly what to expect and shows you don't need to be a fully qualified electrician to sort it out, nice work mate.

    • Thanks Russ...That was what I was hoping....I have learned the hard way and made many mistakes, but working with 12 volts is relatively safe.....having said that perhaps the many battery shocks I have received in my life can be attributed to my hair loss🤣

  • For me as a non-electrician your detailed explanations are very useful! I never thought about having the batteries inside the tank while charging them! I have a finished 1/16 Tamiya King Tiger, as well as a started Tiger I and a Jagdpanther waiting, so I think I could follow your path here. Also, it is most helpful that you show me the tools needed for wiring! Thank you so much for the effort to demonstrate all this in this vey enjoyable video!

  • Great progress Tony - marvellous to see the Hetzer's tracks moving at last, and it was really enjoyable watching your approach to the electrics. Really looking forward to seeing your M26 moving about too! I picked up (literally, and it was 50kg) my hydraulic scissor table yesterday from the local ferreteria. I ordered it before Christmas but things move slowly here - so that'll help me to progress my own M26 build without risk to life or limb👍 I've also grabbed a few different circuit breakers along the way to give me some options when I come to tackle the wiring⚡⚡😀

    • Hi Keith, great to hear from you again and thank you for your positive comments. I hope that your M26 build is going well and the table lift will definitely help during the build and storing the tank post build. I also use a motorcycle scissor lift on the table lift to elevate the tank in order to take the stress off the torsion bars when storing. Best regards..Tony

  • Tony, I hate, and I mean REALLY hate wiring, but you explained it so well that my ‘hate’ has now diminished to a modest level of uncertainty 😂. I wonder if anyone has ever installed a scale petrol/diesel engine in any Armortek tank? That would be interesting, leaving the electrics to run the rest of the operations. Just a thought…..

    @peterrussell663@peterrussell6632 ай бұрын
    • Hi Peter....I too used to be like that...but I persevered, so I am at the same level "a modest level of uncertainty"🤣 It is only 12 volts, I guess but I am always worried about blowing up a circuit or something. I have seen blank firing mechanisms fitted and even a guy who set up a BB MG....but never a small petrol engine....way beyond my knowledge base, but an engine from a hedge cutter would fit.....now that would be a blast🤣

      @tonys_workshop@tonys_workshop2 ай бұрын
  • I assume you have to add the leads for the charger,and Armortek does not supply that. I also guess that the batteries can be charged in place with everything still connected. I have all the motion kits for my tiger,but I have not studied any of it yet. I have a long way to go before wiring! Very good video, as always.❤🎉😂

    @davidligon2003@davidligon20032 ай бұрын
    • Hi David, yes the charging leads are purchased separately and come with my CTEK MXS 5.0 Battery Charger. The batteries most definitely stay in place and all you have to do is to hard wire the leads to the batteries then have somewhere that you can present the cables from. On my Tiger, I have dressed these through the escape hatch on the turret. You will not have to worry about the battery terminals as the ones Armortek recommend for the Tiger are the screw top terminals. If you get stuck when you get to that stage, give me a shout and I will try to help.

  • Have you considered using power tool lipo battery packs.? Huge run time. Fast charge time. Bit risky for fire.

    @mrwoodandmrtin@mrwoodandmrtin2 ай бұрын
    • Hi and no I have not...I know there are other ways to power these small beast up, but I like to stick to what Armortek recommend...Just in case something burns out, I want it to be down to a factory fault and not effect any warranty. These batteries tend to provide over 1 hours driving time...not run one of my tanks past the 1 hour yet, but when I put them back on charge they indicate only 50% usage. Not bad considering that they are constantly being drained throughout the 1 hour use.

      @tonys_workshop@tonys_workshop2 ай бұрын
    • That's a great run time. Yes, stick with those then.

  • The more connections you use - the greater the chance of failure down the line. Where are the line fuses?

    @ianshepherd917@ianshepherd9172 ай бұрын
    • Hi Ian and thanks for watching and commenting. That is a true observation, however I have the power supply protected directly from the batteries with a breaker and secondary switch and an additional in line fuse to what will be the power to the servos. The connections are good and all tested providing a trtue supply from both of the 12 volt batteries. Once the electronics are connected and complete everything is tied down so not to work loose. I am happy that this will hold up to the rigorous use this tank will have in its life.

  • Hello Uncle Tony, I'm Vino. I want to ask where you bought the track, wheels and sprockets or can you give me the purchase link?

    @user-yo9rt7gf1t@user-yo9rt7gf1t2 ай бұрын
    • Hi Vino, These come as part of the kit, and only available in 1/6 scale. If you are building a 1/6 scale and you can confirm which tank you are designing/building, I can ask here in the UK whether they would supply the parts you are looking for. Kind regards...Tony

  • Looking good, assuming the 'one stick per track' setup was just for testing? I had all sorts of fun setting up the single stick operation on my mine as my Mark IV didn't have any gun/turret to worry about. The only other question that occurs is have you decided where the speakers are going as they are fairly bulky in rhe small hull?

    @daniel_scholefield@daniel_scholefield2 ай бұрын
    • Hi Daniel, yes just for testing....I have just received the remainder of the option packs from AT and will now look to set everything up how I want it...I must admit I am concerned about the lack of space and where to install the speakers...I may mount them on a shelf...Thank you for your continued support.

      @tonys_workshop@tonys_workshop2 ай бұрын
    • @@tonys_workshop I only brought it up as I was looking at mine. Having only one battery I was able to lie it flat and have the speakers on top but looking at your wiring setup there didn't appear to be a clear space for their bulk.
