  • I most certainly will be along for this build, Tony. If it goes together as (generally) neatly as the other builds have, it will be a very nice model. Pity about the steering wheel. I think I see a new bottle of Loctite on the bench. Regards

    • Hi Chris, and thank you for your continued support and kind comments. Yeh...the steering wheel is a tad disappointing...Thought this could have been a brass part...I have looked around and nobody seems to be making these at this scale...I think I can harden this up with that new Locktite from my bench 😀 and then detail paint it..I'm sure it will work out ok.

    • Hi Neil, nice idea...I will definitely not be going down the route of Green....but I have a plan😀. Thank you for watching and commenting. Just checked out your channel. I see you have also built a Meccano Series 1. The drive shaft is a nice set up...Never built a Meccano set, as I always felt the amount of nuts and fixings would be frustrating so I went down the path of Airfix and then on to scratch building, now on to this scale...much better for my big old sausage fingers🤣 Hope you enjoy the build.

    • Thanks - I am currently building a Meccano LWB series 1 (in Dove grey, hence my suggestion). No photos yet but managed to squeeze working differentials in the new one - scale is 1:12.5. No plans but just working from images of the real thing. I definitely have 'Landie Envy' when watching your build!

    • Hi Neil, please forgive me...so you are sort of scratch building this using various meccano parts? I had no idea that this could be done...thought you had to follow a pattern or plan for each build...you have my new gained respect sir.

      @tonys_workshop@tonys_workshop6 күн бұрын
    • Absolutely right Tony - scratch building from a pretty extensive collection of parts, usually gathered over many years. I am a life-long Meccano fan and haven't built to a model plan for decades. The Meccano community is a small one but almost entirely adults (sadly). There are a dozen or so clubs left in the UK (and more overseas) and I estimate that more than half of the members build exclusively from scratch. Designing the model, drawing up plans, selecting parts and figuring out the technical challenges is all part of the fun - most of us get a model wrong a few times before we get it right. A big Meccano model can literally take years to build - my little Landie probably only took around six months on and off. My local club is the South West Meccano Club - we have a good website if you get really bored!

    • @@neilbedford5082 Neil, please accept my respect and apologies for not appreciating your hobby as much as it deserves. I have on occasion compared what I do to what you do as “ this is not a Meccano set” meaning in this hobby, we have lots of fettling, drilling, tapping and cutting to undertake as well as preparing and painting the kit.

One thing I found all the m2 nuts and bolts were sometimes a bit small!, I built the option packs at the same time as the chassis….it is better . It was also very useful to test all the electronics early on. Good luck with the build

I love the way AT have put this together...sure, there are the usual cleaning out of threads and de-burring etc, but thats all part of this amazing hobby. I am pleased that I ordered the motion and lighting pack, as from what I understand it is essential to have these ahead of progressing too far. Thank you for your advice and I will definitely test servos and drive motors before going too far. Good luck with the rest of your build and hope you continue to watch my progress good or bad😀 on this amazing kit. Have a great weekend.

  • It was fun to watch you rummaging in the lucky dip box this week👍 If you're looking for ideas on a role / colour scheme for the Landrover, you could consider RAF blue in the role of a towing vehicle for a Bristol Bloodhound guided missile (which I'm sure would be a pretty straightforward scratch build for someone of your talents). For illustrations and colour schemes see Corgi Major Gift set #4, or Corgi 1115 (missile), 1116 (ramp), 1117 (trolley) plus the Corgi Landrover itself #351 etc on the well known auction site. I've got one of these combinations of Landrover, trailer, launch platform and missiles in my collection. I think it's 1:43 and am trying to visualise it in 1/6th scale. I can but dream... Cheers 👍

  • Yes! Love a Saturday morning watching a To y build video! Although the LR has no tracks I will for sure follow you building it! Will the aluminium parts need to get primed to prevent corrosion? The plastic steering wheel is kind of a let down, maybe there will be an aftermarket replacement? I love the wheels shown! Waiting for the first build video!

    @Th.G.M.@Th.G.M.11 күн бұрын
    • Thanks Thomas, much appreciated. I will prime and paint the aluminium parts which are meant to be left as aluminium....I was contemplating leaving them but as you say, don't want them to oxidise too much. I have found some galv' paint and tested this...I think that will work and give the parts the look I want. Yeh...steering wheel not good...I have looked and can't find anyone at this stage making them...I may have to harden this up by using a glue of some form...but that is a way off, so will tackle that later. The wheels are amazing...I am thinking the only thing they are missing is valves...so I may see what I can come up with to add that detail. Thank you for your continued support and hope you enjoy watching this Series 1 come together.
