I think people in the US really need to look at which industries are funding and benefitting from the gaslighting. Start with oil and gas. They're enabling the destruction of democracy, journalism, the environment and climate all for the sake of fattening their wallets.
Tucker Carlson's lawyers argued that he is not a reporter and his show is not news so he is not obligated to tell the truth. Even his own lawyers argue in court that he is full of shit.
And then the Governor Abbott says less than 10% of the power comes from wind turbines, which NEVER would have failed, had ANY of TX been on the National Power Grid, they would have had WINTERIZED EQUIPMENT! But NO, TX in the 90's started their OWN power grid, so they could rake-in trillions and hike up prices to consumers, allowing the utilities to rip off and not winterize with no regulations that required it which would have saved thousands of lives and dollars. Now TX is looking at a disaster FAR WORSE than any hurricane brought on SOLELY BY GREED and TX need to structure their OWN power grid which FAILED MISERABLY! TX BUSINESSMEN ARE TO BLAME, TED CRUZ and the Republicans who allowed this to happen!

Cool fact Michigan and, Wisconsin use wind turbines. Power is still on in both states.
Yeah, I live in northwest Ohio, about 11 miles from the start of a very large turbine field, and it regularly gets colder here than it did down in Texas but ours never freeze. Being cheap bit them in the arse. Just like our natural gas lines here don't freeze- which was part of the problem, from what I hear.

Cool Fact: California has hydroelectric wind and solar power plants. The only reason power went out here during the fires is because the power lines burnt down. Our infrastructure failed. Not our green energy failing.

@@sandshark2 partially true, the developers or owners never bought the winterization packages.for the wind mills. The coal plants were shutdown to accommodate the greenies and co2 emissions credits. Be prepared to pay for co2 emissions on your vehicles and mileage driven and any other co2 emitting device you own. It's coming.

Praying for you and your family and the whole state. I hope you are safe. I have a few tips if you don’t mind from when I lived as a girl in the back woods of ky. With little to no heat and access to water. Melting snow: throw away the top layer of snow just skim it. Don’t go for the snow close to the ground. Melt it, then bring it to a boil. Turn off and cover while it cools down. To keep yourself and family warm you can wrap newspaper’s around your hands and feet put a plastic grocery bag over them then if you don’t have mittens put big socks 🧦 over them, kind of hard to do your hands this way when you are awake but works well at night. (If you are doing this for children skip the plastic add more paper. Also layers are your best friend at this time. Thin layers on the bottom and a thick layer on the out side. If you can keep your head covered with a warm hat! If you don’t have a hat use a few scarves to wrap your head in. Layers layers layers! Sealing off your windows with thick plastic sheeting will help any cold air coming in and warm air inside where you need it! Also use heavy blankets or the sheeting to close off parts of your house you don’t ABSOLUTELY need. Sleep in the same room to conserve heat! If you are using kerosene heater please remember to put it as far in the center of the room so it doesn’t touch or be close to any curtains, walls, furniture. And make sure there is proper ventilation in that room. And don’t use it at night if your sleeping. Best of luck to you all! Be safe

You know most Texans aren't actually like this right? Meanwhile my Democrat voting self had to keep my elderly mother from freezing to death this week. An 11 year old boy died of hypothermia in his bed. People literally were finding dead bodies frozen on the sidewalks while trying to get supplies to survive. People still don't have power or water and many people don't have access to getting any. All because some greedy companies didn't want to weather proof things, and the politicians in charge refuse to regulate them. As always the people hurt the most are the poor who now won't be able to afford food if they want to pay the hiked up electric bills and avoid eviction during a pandemic. Could you save the jokes at the people who've suffered for after the crisis is over at least? Comedy is for punching up and a little empathy goes a long way. Hopefully you don't have to suffer any extreme weather events that aren't normal for your area, and hopefully if you do people show you compassion for the situation.

We finally have clean water and heat. No pipes burst. Grocery stores are bare, but are getting by. Thank you for your support in our time of need. Texas just can't handle snow and ice, never have. And our leaders? Well, you see what they do.

That’s because most northern states are public, so they have federal regulation. Texas is closed off, so it is owned by a few rich people, so they can build theirs as cheap as they want

@@UltimateEG Wrong! DOE and ERCOT regulate their power output, that was put in place when Obama put in the CleanPowerPlan Act. Only El Paso is on the federal grid. Even though the energy is private in majority of Texas, it is federally regulated.
They've got wind turbines in Canada, and there's a Sirius station in Greenland which is primarily wind powered. If you build them for it, they can run under any conditions on Earth. Or you can do like Texas.

He wasn't declared "not guilty." He was declared "not guilty enough to overcome the senators too corrupt or merely chickenshit to vote for truth." There's a difference - this wasn't a criminal trial, to be adjudicated beyond a reasonable doubt. It merely required a preponderance of the evidence to indicate guilt. The 57% vote to convict satisfied that condition perfectly well.

It did, 2011 I think, they ignored to update infrastructure, Texas is not ready for freezing Temps. Everything is made to withstand heat, but not cold. They were told to update, they declined to save money, they basically bet on it never getting cold in Texas again.

This week has been a wake up call for a lot of people in Texas I hope. I love my state, but good gravy I’m tired of the politicians that have been chosen to represent us and run our state government. I really appreciate your sensitivity. You have no idea how many people have told us to "toughen up". We lost power for almost a week, now we have no water. We got 8 inches of snow but we have no plows or a way to salt the roads. The stores have been ransacked. This is truly a humanitarian disaster.

A hurricane can knock out power, too. At some point, decorators decided that these fireplaces were no longer desirable, which is why you're freezing cold now. I would never have a house without one, and without an emergency kitchen in the garage even, with propane equipment, stove & refrig. Even if it's camping appliances.
Not everyone has a house, much less a house with a garage. If you're in an apartment, there is no place to store wood. Lights being out is relatively trivial to deal with unless that's the only way to cook and heat.

You’re right Trevor. It is heartbreaking in Texas! I lived there in San Antonio for 10 years. One snow storm in that period. Here in Colorado, this storm lasted all week. The power generation story in Texas is complex. They are an energy producing state. Praying for Texas.
