bonjour à tous,
This week at the chateau, Terry & Ash get back into working on the third floor of the chateau, and race on to get bit finished. Terry upcycles a old wardrobe to create a pelmet in the bedroom and paneling in the salon, the first paint goes on in the bedroom for the first time in over 40 years, plus we have the first lights on in the third floor.
plus, as Terry is now training for the great north run Ash gets him a new drink to try.

About us,
We are a family from the North-East of England following our dream to restore a beautiful abandoned french Château. We discovered the heart stopping Château De Lalacelle in summer of 2020, this beautiful architectural monument Is set in the countryside of North-West France.
The moment we visited the Château we all fell in love, from the beautiful sweeping landscape and forests, to its stunning untouched interiors and magnificent spiral staircase in the turret.
Unfortunately Château De Lalacelle has been abandoned for a number of decades so will need a lot of restoration and DIY.
Please subscribe and follow our families journey, with the up’s and down’s in moving from the UK to rural France and restoring this beautiful building to its former glory.

  • Terry, I do hope you fully appreciate the treasure you have in Ash. Bless his sweet little heart, he works so hard to insure that your vision for these rooms comes to fruition. He admits that he can’t always see where you are headed, but he is determined to do whatever it takes to see that you get there. Even if it means cutting into his perfectly smooth walls to install two wardrobe doors. You guys are truly meant for each other, and I wish you both nothing but happiness together.

  • Terry, tip I got from a plasterer for hanging coving, press the coving up on the left and knock a nail half-way in the wall under it and then the middle and then the right-hand end it will not keep falling down and cause less mess or damage. When done pull the nails out and fill the holes!!

  • Why not use the sides of the wardrobe behind the bed as paneling? Like one of the enclosed beds? You could use them either up and down or side to side. That would be gorgeous! Keep up the great work, and best wishes for the family.

Your bedroom is going to be fabulous I saw the big built in cupboard in one of the early vlogs. Say a prayer each night that the ceil de lit does not fall on you. Can't wait to see the drapes you use. What, cutting holes in the walls Ash has worked so hard to make perfect.....it is this attention to detail that will set your restoration apart. Your private area is going to be so lovely.

  • It is looking great! I noticed the crown/bonnet of the armoire originally had finials on the top, maybe you could place them hanging upside down on the front corners of the now canopy, just a thought. Also, what if you took the base of the armoire and upholstered it making it a bench for the foot of the bed or use it in front of the radiator/heater. Look forward to more vlogs1

  • Love how you have repurposed the wardrobe. At first, I thought why not just attach the panels to the Salon wall, but have to agree with Terry vision of recessing them to be flush with the plasterboard. Looks so much better. Only thing I feel deprived of is a scan of the rooms after your work to get prospective of what you've done. Just a quick peek would be great. When you stand in front of the camera and explain it, a few pictures would be lovely to see. 🙏
