The KITCHEN Renovation | Shopping for the perfect one for the Château. Ep 92
Bonjour à tous,
This week at the chateau is an exciting day, the last room to get decorated is at the stage for the main pieces of furniture. The kitchen is the heart of any home and yet this will only be for Terry and Ash it still needs to be special and fit in with the room, plus this will be the only kitchen in the chateau till the family restore the main kitchen in the basement.
Tracy, Terry & Ash go shopping searching for that perfect kitchen to go on the third floor, but what style will there go with and will it fit?

About us,
We are a family from the North-East of England following our dream to restore a beautiful abandoned french Château. We discovered the heart stopping Château De Lalacelle in summer of 2020, this beautiful architectural monument Is set in the countryside of North-West France.
The moment we visited the Château we all fell in love, from the beautiful sweeping landscape and forests, to its stunning untouched interiors and magnificent spiral staircase in the turret.
Unfortunately Château De Lalacelle has been abandoned for a number of decades so will need a lot of restoration and DIY.
Please subscribe and follow our families journey, with the up’s and down’s in moving from the UK to rural France and restoring this beautiful building to its former glory.

I like the natural wood look, and please let Ash have his sink.
Thanks Margie :)
Lol I agree
Yes, Ash, you normally don't ask for much. 😄 We are cheering for your sink.
I vote the sink for Ash🥰
@@ashleywaters7198 Ash, Is it the farmhouse/apron sink style you like so much or the material it is made of? It looked like a stone. It was difficult to see the details? I couldn’t really see much from the brief shots of them from the video. Hope everyone is well.
I just built a new kitchen myself. I would highly recommend ALL Drawers on the lower units. No crawling on your knees to find things in the back is a game changer. Also, any pre-made cabinets can be fit to any space and drawer fronts can be customized to get the look you want. It's always worth it to spend a little more to get what you really want. A kitchen is not the space to cut corners. Good luck, I know it will be beautiful
Thanks Stew :)
I wholeheartedly agree about having drawers below the work counters. Kneeling down to locate what you need is a bummer! This I know from living in several contractor-grade built homes (60+ years) where they are cutting costs to increase profit. Lucky that you can customize!!
Yes drawers. I have had them since 2013. Also look into induction cooktop or portable induction piece. Cooks things quickly and burner doesn’t heat up a small space. Also look into an air fryer. There are charts for suggested times of various meats, vegetables etc to cook.
Thank you very much, that is what I was thinking of, just creating our own 🥰
Poor Ash! Terry has such strong and specific design ideas (albeit spot-on and beautiful, I might say) that my perception is that Ash seldom gets his way. Come on, Terry, let Ash pick out the kitchen and sink.😉
Ash will get the sink he want, don’t worry 🥰
When I renovating my cabin and the store did not have the stock , I asked the manger can I buy the display. Got a 90 dollar farm house tap for 20 dollars. Got a 150 dollar bathroom light for 40 dollars , tell you that manger love me.
Thanks Mary 😉
When I put a new kitchen in, it turned out to be much less expensive to have it custom built than to buy from a store. Everything was built to fit my specific space - which your kitchen definitely needs. Plus - no compromises, you get to customize everything.
Thanks Lora. We’re getting some quotes and hoping that might be the case :)
Please let Ash have his choice of sink !
Thanks Mary :)
I like the double sink, with warmer wood colors for the cabinets.
Poor Ash. If Tracy and Terry don't like it, he's out of luck. Or so it appears. Sorry. That's how it looks. The "we'll see" is another way to say, "I don't agree." I give Ash a lot of credit for his forbearance.
No not at all. We all beat ideas around with each other. I bring functionality to the table. Terry design and Tracy homely :) we make a great team that way and normally end up with something we all love :)
Okay, Ash. Stand corrected. That's not how it comes across.
Please don't have grey, everybody has grey, that timber kitchen was gorgeous, try for a custom made one like that, it will be perfect for your tastes!!
Thank you very much 🥰
I agree! Grey is so overdone these days. It's such a depressing color, imo. Certainly not a color I'd want inside a cozy kitchen.
The best features I’ve noticed in new kitchens is the transition from doored lower storage to deep drawers. It’s so much nicer to pull out a drawer and have full access to the contents. With doored storage, you’re down on hands and knees to find whatever is in the back of the cupboard. Please consider the additional expense, which is worth it over the long term. 🌺
I hope Ash got his sink. Aren’t you a chef? You’d know the best type of kitchen, if I’m correct on the chef part. Can’t wait to see what was chosen.
The kitchen Ash liked, stunning and perfect with the beams
Thanks Wee Sandy :)
I had 3 wide drawers put in my kitchen when I needed to renew it. Can't tell you what a massive difference it makes
Thanks Carolyn
I totally agree. Big drawers are the way to go.
Ash needs his sink. I loved the sink he showed in the last video. As far as cabinets, keep in mind that this is a kitchen and they will have to be washed often. If you get raw wood cabinets and don’t finish them, they will be difficult to clean.
Thank you very much 🥰
Guys, we restored a Grade II Listed Georgian house in Malvern Worcestershire before moving to Devon. I built the kitchen from scratch. I used 2x1 inch roofing battens for the frame (light sanding) 3/4 ply for the carcass sides and inside shelves chose the perfect sink and taps. For the worktops 2x 3/4 thick 2ft wide pine, nice moulding on front and oiled the tops. Wife chose the doors which were painted olive green. The wall tiles were Pilkington crackle dark green glazed tiles and we purchased a Range master bottle green with gold dial cooker. I made open shelf units for the walls and found a old school glazed wall cupboard which we lit up. We saved a fortune and was very pleased with the finish. Wish you well in the quest for the perfect kitchen.
No pallet wood please. Ash must have his sink! Good luck with whatever you choose 🦘🦘🦘
Thank you very much 🥰
I hope the custom kitchen design is financially feasible for you. You would be happier and Ash could have his sink. 😊
Thank you very much, yes hope it works out 🥰
Ash, I hope you get your farm sink. Do deep drawers for the bottom cabinets. They are best for pots and pans, small appliances and even your plates, platters, etc. Your beams look more gray than yellow/brown. You might want slate gray cabinets. Whatever you choose I’m sure it will be beautiful. xx
Thank you very much 🥰
I liked the industrial kitchen. And i like the sink from the last one. As a retired cabnet maker i sure wish i could come over and blend these kitchens together and make the perfect kitchen for you.
Thanks Lynn! We wish you could too 😂😂
Guys - bring her over!
What about 3 antique pieces. a large buffet (cutting hole for a sink). A large hutch or wardrobe (which you'd need to add shelves),that would hold everything (dishes, pots ,pans, food etc), then a table against a wall for a countertop . Perfect chateau kitchen and one of a kind ! peace&love from America
Thank you. We had antique Welsh dressers in our old house. Still haven’t decided what we will do here 😂😂
I did that in a kitchen and loved it. We had wallpaper and open shelves above the sink. A big antique buffet and China cabinet worked well in the space. We had one pantry cabinet from a big box store in the corner. Of course it wasn't a chateau but simply a Victorian bungalow. We did eventually put in a new kitchen for resale but I liked the old one better.
Pot drawers are a great thing here in North America. It really saves digging around in a dark bottom cabinet. I love mine . They’re all drawers on the bottom.
Ash has amazing taste I love his choice
He really does 🥰🥰
Dont rush it you both need to be happy with it. And you each have different needs for the space. Terry needs it harmonious and styled to fit and Ash needs it practical. You will know when its the right ine. Take it slow and be sure….…
Ash, is right about the sink that he so admire, the name or style here in the USA it's called a " Country sink " and it would go fantastic with that all wood cabinets. Now I'll go finish the video.
Thank you very much 🥰
Do an accent wall, the color of Ashley’s sweater if you get the real wood. I love the sink Ashley likes.
I love that colour :)
There is no reason to compromise on anything. With the right carpenter you can have just what you want. We redid our kitchen in 2017 have have what we desire.
I love the natural wood and I hope Ash gets his sink!!❤️🥰
He will do bless him 🥰
I think Benoit might be able to help you!😊 I loved Terry’s choice with Ashes sink. I also think those two lanterns on the counter would make lovely lights hanging from the ceiling. Another job for Terry! Looking forward to seeing your final choices.
Thanks Shelley :)
How about Michael Petherick?
I don't know how things are sold in France but usually you choose a style of cabinet and then choose a stain or paint from a selection and the sink is a separate purchase so you can have whatever one you want. So if you have take what you see then a custom made or bespoke kitchen would be the way to go. I'd go for country/farm house for the Chateau since it's first a home, second a old Chateau and not a large kitchen nor in any way a industrial kitchen or space.
Thanks Steven. It’s a bit different. We can go down that route but what we’ve seen it can be pricy. We shall see. We are due some quotes this week :)
Ok I change my mind.. I like Terry’s choice with the natural wood with dark trim but Ash’s sink 😄😜
Thank you very much, I think that is what we like 🥰
Definitely go for the big sink. If you do a lot of cooking you can clean your big pots so easily.
Thank you :) I like to use all the pots when I cook 😂😂
You are the right people that are restoring that Chateau
When we did our kitchen, we worked with a kitchen designer who sold furniture quality cabinets. Twenty years later my cabinets look great.
You guys could make that 1st kitchen style yourselves. I believe in you.
Thank you :)
So much fun watching you two shop! Ash had a look on his handsome face of excitement speaking about the kitchen he loved. So cute!👍🤗🤗😍😍
and i like this one better, i like the industrial vibe, modernly rustic if there is such a vibe
I love this one 😍😍
Please go for a deeper farmhouse style sink. The one you show (black) is very shallow.
Give Ash his sink, it can be done and the one you picked out fits in the best. Can you order extra cabinets to build in fridge? You guys have so much talent I know you could make it work!!
Thank you very much 🥰
Ash, your sink is called a Farm sink. They're great. Good luck trying to decide on a particular style.
For your space definitely go custom made and go for all drawers they are so much more practical, you get more usable space and things don’t get lost at the back of the cupboards.
Thank you very much 🥰
Make sure you get wide pan drawers so good to have under hob
Thanks Kath
Not the wooden countertops guys, so much upkeep but I’m loving your style. I trust you both 😂😂
Thank you very much 🥰
Who ever does the cleaning up....gets to choose the sink! I'm loving the ideas I'm seeing so far, take your time and think it through, it's all going to work out! Good luck 🍀 ☘
Thanks Jo!
Thinking harmoniously for the chateau period a farmhouse kitchen would be the best fit. The dark bases with a french piano range would be gorgeous with lighter uppers or even open shelves for display if you are neat….double farmhouse sink would tie in.
How exciting -- shopping for a new kitchen! I am sure it will be something unique given the decorating flair that Terry and Ash both have :)
You know us to well 🥰
My second cousin works for IKEA in Edmonton, Canada and he 'sets up the vignettes' for the different 'rooms'. Only wish they had one near my place...Don't get too high expectations on growing the venus fly traps, as they are not easy.
You want a farmhouse sink. You can get a smaller one that will fit the room. And you can get the wood kitchen you both like.
Great minds think alike , glad you have picked someone local , you'll get want you want in the end lads xx 🤞🏼🥰
Thanks Yvonne. We always try to when we can :)
Induction cooktop! I love mine, as fast and as hot as gas but super easy to clean. My biggest tip - all drawers. No more grovelling on the floor hunting around n the back of bottom cabinets.
Thanks Kate :)
LOVE DRAWERS!!!
Ahhh just get a wine bar, snack drawer, and a hot plate!! 🍷😘😜👍🏽
Haha. Thank Jan :)
Love it !
Open shelving collects dust. You will definitely need upper cabinets as the room is so small. Storage is utmost. I’m sure you can get the “farm sink” put in whatever cabinets you order. Hefty handles on cabinets to go with the big beams
Thanks Chris :)
A custom kitchen would be so perfect for that small space !
We think so too!
Terry listen to Ash! I think the kitchen from the local place with the black and wood combo is way better than the one in the store and you won’t have additional work to do and Ash can get his sink!!
Use your vertical space even with skinny cabinets, every bit of storage helps
Thank you very much 🥰
Good morning from Canada ❤
Hello hello good morning
Good morning 🥰
Ash I like the kitchen you prefer. Terry the country kitchen is too country or rustic. You will find the perfect one. You both have a great eye for style and what will work in the chateau. Ok...I love the 2nd place that you've gone to. I know you will find the perfect design there.
Thanks Cheryl :)
Ash, had fly traps grew in the wild ate flys, wasps, yellow jackets etc in SC off of Ashley River named for Lord Ashley in 1600's other side of Charleston is the Cooper River for Lord Cooper! Hope you get your sink too! Enjoy!
Haha. Amazing! Thank you!
You need something that meet the standard of the Chateau. I hope you find a nice one.
Like the sink but the kitchen upstairs needs light wood and those glass cupboards would add visual depth to the room. Love thoughtful planning.
Hopefully a helpful suggestion: If you are planning on hand-washing your dishes it would be better to have a double basin sink rather than one basin and a drainboard. One basin to wash in, one basin to rinse in, drain on the counter. If you are using a dishwasher, then it makes no difference. Best wishes!
Thank you very much 🥰
I agree with Ash, that is a light wood which will be good in a small kitchen.
OHHHH !!! I really like your cabinet choice. You can cover the appliances with the same style cabinet doors. Paybee an old LOUIS XV armoire for extra storage would tie the whole kitchen in with the OLD chateau, and give yoou lots more storage. Think COPPER POTS hung on the wall. They add 'age' too.
Gentleman, Instead of sanding those beams , there is another You tuber renovating a convent in France and is using A Sand blaster just Another method you might consider !!! Like Button Crushed !!! 😁
Thank you. We will look into that :)
@@ashleywaters7198 The You Tuber is called the Pathericks Today's video
The kitchen looks amazing with the primer and paint on it. So Bright!!
Thank you very much 🥰
Pls let Ash have that FAB sink! Alexandra from Detroit
Thanks Alexandra :)
Having done several kitchens over the years, I offer the following: Think long and hard about sliding doors, they can be annoying. Deep pot drawers are a godsend, they will keep you from burrowing in the back of lower cabinets. Amazon in Canada has the barndoor hardware kit for cabinets for under CA$100. If you get your cabinets custom made, the hardware could all be your choice.
In the Netherlands we had a show on TV about a family who bought a chateau in France (and now sold it again). They went for the kitchen with all the loose units. It looked gorgeous.... but....3 years later on it was a hot mess. Lots of dirt and water went in between the cabinets. It was a quick and easy solution but I think you can do better 😉😘
Thanks Danielle :)
Still with a little modern country with Ash’s Country white apron sink would look nice with a small narrow island!
The quote will be high because it’s quality and custom but you’ll love that it’s perfect for the space. Your kitchen is very unique with lots of angles so a prefab kitchen will be difficult to retrofit.
Thank you very much 🥰
Please please let the professional do there job. I say go with the family down the road you can get everything you want and need.
Thanks Thomas :)
Go white with a double sink and natural wood. Yes rustic and maybe both butcher block and a light Quartz counter. Quartz is sturdier than marble. Marble is fantastic for creating dough for brioche and croissants. Rolling out cookies and pies. So u could just do a section of marble with wood. So excited to see what you do. ❤❤❤❤❤
Glad you took Tracy along. ❤️👍🏻🙏🏻
The black frame with the wood looks really nice
Thanks Thom
I recently remodeled my kitchen. I like haven’t lots of drawers because things get shoved in the back of shelves. Please let Ash choose the sink.
Also check the Wayfair store. It’s mail order I got my sink and handles there. Good luck!
I like natural wood grain cabinets, last the test of time!
Yep, natural wood, textured baskets, subdued color palette. Slight modern industrial touches (we have galvanized tin trim in our kitchen & living room). Looking forward to the whole lalaselle house walk-thru!🙆🏻♀️
Thank you very much 🥰
I really like your choice of style with the wood. I hope the quote comes back within your budget range and MOST of all, that you don't have to wait till 2024 to get the units. Good luck on your search, guys, and I hope Ash gets his sink and that it is a comfortable height to work in. Best wishes to all.
Thank you very much 🥰
This a beautiful family, happy ang peaceful. They have unity, love and respect for each other
Thank you very much 🥰
Have you found the dumbwaiter yet? It will save you lugging groceries to your new kitchen. And when you have guests, it will save steps bringing up clean linen from the basement. Carry on! I just found your channel and I'm enjoying seeing things come together.
We normally spend a vast amount of time in our kitchen spaces. So splurge and make sure you get the kitchen you truly want. Otherwise, you will never really be content within the space. Therefore you will dread having to be in it for long periods of time.
You had to custom design your suit to suit your style. You'll have to custom design your kitchen too.. You're up to it. .
Thanks Zander :)
It is a difficult decision. I enjoyed viewing your choices along with you. I know what ever you both choose will be perfect.
Ash your a natural in front of the camera! Good job
Thank you very much 🥰
Hi there I love watching you all its fantastic such hard workers .I was watching Dan on his large renovation and he needs a caravan .perhaps the one you no longer need maybe to pass the love 💕 ❤️ ♥️ 💗
Can you just get the kitchen unit you like and add the kitchen sink you prefer?? I think they will let you purchase the units you want!! Good luck! Love your KZhead channel!!
Not grey walls! Cream or light beige will look great with the wood & black accents.
Thank you. We still haven’t decided yet ;)
Give Ash the sink he wants. He does not ask for much.
You need to stay light and bright my loves. ❤❤❤ small space with one tiny window, the dark color absorbs the light.
Since your beams are all darker once they have been oiled, a lighter wood would keep the focus on the beams. I like a farmhouse sink, and I’ve had butcher block wood counter tops for 8 years. They’re not hard to keep up. I used a mix of custom and pre- made and did a lot of the work myself. Whatever you decide, you two are the ones that have to live with it, so take your time and get it right
Really like the elements Ash chose
You should definitely combine the two and build your own. With your skills you can EASILY DIY this, and really inexpensively for a lot of it. Buy Ash his sink, and then put in concrete countertops in place. The colour of Ash's kitchen is stunning and would look fantastic with the industrial drawer / slidey cupboards of Terry's kitchen. I know you can buy each of the pieces easily to build exactly what you want. And it will look brilliant!! (I'm also a fan of leather handles, not sure about the logistics of sanitation in a kitchen, but love the look!) All of the pieces you can find on Etsy, eBay, Lee Valley etc. I do also love the idea of supporting a local artisan and family business. It's one of the reasons why I love your channel... your ethics. But if it's too much can you not buy just the sink and the bits you want and build out the cabinets/countertops yourselves?
Thanks Andrea :)
Please please get the custom kitchen you will never regret it. A custom kitchen will be timeless and will use the space so much better.
Thanks Sandra :)
You blokes look so handsome with your haircuts and the colors you are wearing. And Mom Tracy looks nice and warm in her winter finery. You men in casual clothes are sporty, no overcoats, ah for the fires of youth!! Are you able to purchase an AGA in France? Or have you considered one?
With your range a really great accessory is a downdraft, helps to eliminate grease & steam from cooking.
Choose drawers for the lower cabinets. Won’t regret it.
Yes to the sink for Ash
Thanks Heather :)
Just build your own. You have the knowledge to do it.
I can't help but think with all the weird shapes and angles you have going on... going with a custom built one is probably your best option... even if it is slightly more expensive... in the long run I just think it would be the smarter way to go. And if Ash gets the lovely sink style he wants even better. You two are so cute together. Anyway... best of luck.... I agree wood is the way to go... will look so nice with the beams ... and a slightly gray might be great with those beams.
Thank you. I think your right :)
Give Ash his farmhouse style sink. The natural wood looks nice. Mix and match some if you can for that perfect look. 🇨🇦
Thank you very much, yes think ash needs he’s sink 😂🥰🥰
I love the industrial kitchen cabinets
Thank you very much 🥰
Keep in mind you can mix and match things like countertops and sinks.
I like the second one with the double sink
Thanks Peggy
