This is the most American thing I have ever seen
DOs, biscuits and gravy, sporting clays - you're my kinda guy.
Thanks for watching.
Good lawd . Im headin to the cast iron store...
If you can find some used stuff at a pawn shop or thrift store or yard sale you’re usually better off.
You can break up the biscuit mix and make dumplings in the gravy
I gotta try this in my 20 quart Dutch oven 😂
I just bought one from Carolina cooker, any suggestions on a tripod for such a big thing? The one that they sell says 50lb limit, the pot is already 40 by itself not sure if itll work.
I believe that the biscuits helped the thin gravy get thicker. Or else just cooking longer, lol!
That’s how we cook our dumplings…like little biscuits so they aren’t as big as yours…about 1/4 of the size and we cook them over any stew or casserole etc.
Love biscuits and sausage gravy - this looks awesome! Great stuff
You make the sausage gravy like the cajuns w/ butter. I thought that was crazy and now I see you do it. Interesting.....
After the first hundred years of careful cooking you need to maintain and service the cast iron mine is almost that old😊
Oh my Lordie, that was banging and fun! Thanks my brother! 👍😊
Ima farmer in the state of Alabama and sometimes I have to eat in the field. And your Dutch oven tips have helped me a lot looking forward to more of your tips thanks !
I love this idea! Won't ever get burned biscuits!
Today I was the first one to like the video
Thanks for watching first Becky.
sounds like they are fighting to get that awesome biscuit and gravy. And the wife loves your spatula. Love the puppy bomb.
Love the recipe and the background music too. Can you link the music? Thx.
I was fortunately @polksportingclays that morning. I can attest to the awesomeness of this dish that Scott made, in fact I went back for seconds. Two of those biscuits and gravy was perfect!
Glad you got to share this with me and our audience. Thanks for watching and sharing.
I've been bing watching your videos for the last week or so. I love cooking in my cast iron but have been neglecting it as of late. You've inspired me to get it back out and do some campfire cooking with my boys now that they're old enough. Looking forward to more videos.
Perfect!
Looks good!
Man that looks good

Thanks for sharing 👍
Although I am currently at our place in the mountains of western north carolina, our primary home has for 40 years been sarasota Florida....up until I found your channel, I absolutely believed that ...NOBODY ...could make biscuits and gravy better than my wife! ....I feel confident that she will not see this post ( I freaking hope!!) BUT since she is currently in town in Brevard shopping .... yours are as good as hers! be safe and GO Gators !
Thanks for watching.
WoW, shooting and eating. Life at its best.
😳 yum
Cant wait to get a dutch oven to try this!!!!!
Looks like a great hunting camp breakfast
Done got my mouth watering man! Gotta bust out my 8" now!
Thank you
Exactly how I do this recipe. Just different ingredients. Is always a winner at my house!
Love me some cravey and biscuits here in South Central KY. Can't wait to buy me a 10 and 12 camp dutch oven. All I have right now is a 12 deep dutch oven. Can't do much right now but cook at home with this covid19 going around. Take care and thanks for your videos.
I'm out in the wood for the same reasons. Stay safe and thanks for watching.
Did you end up getting a 10 and 12? If so are you loving them!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Today i was the fourth one to like the video :)...yum! I don't think Lodge makes an 8 inch deep, unless there's an older model that's not being made anymore. Looking forward to see if they do or did make one.
This is such a classic outdoors breakfast or for any meal of the day👍😁❤️🇺🇸💙
Excellent backwoods! Used to feed the kids this when camping but never thought about buttering the biscuits. Love your channel and the fiddle music!
Awesome idea in the 8”.. love B&G! Will be perfect for me and the Mrs. thanks for the tip!
Yummy I'm hungry for that. 👍🤤🤗🇺🇸
Happy Easter, I love the one pot meal. I love the pup too! The gunfire is so good too! Thank You
Glad someone sent me here, I love the cast iron cookery. Nice gravy skills we don't do biscuits here really but that's now on the top of my list.
Just dropping in to say I really dig your channel. I've been expanding my Lodge family for the last couple years and have recently been messing around with the dutch oven. Your videos have really helped, so thank you!!!
can you tell this ole boy has cooked a biscuit or two in his day? Check out his fried squirrel and gravy recipe...dang good
What a great video straight to the point. I’m going to try it on a bigger scale cannot wait .I have not looked yet hopefully there’s one on making that pork butt sausage. Thank you
Northern boy never had this till found your channel, made some it was great but I have to work on the biscuits
that looks delicious, I would make it more soupy though ..............yummms
I’m doin it
I like your style. I too start a meal for two with a half a stick of butter.
Very nice, sure looked tasty! I have a 10 inch Camp Chef, need an 8 and a 12 inch! 👍😀👊
I made biscuits and gravy in my 10” Lodge this past weekend while camping and it was amazing. I will never cook them any other way now, at least while camping.
Nothing like cast iron cooking, we gave ours to my daughter and her husband, I’m heading over to cabela’s
Looks great, I will love it when I can eat me a vig old plate.
Love me some homemade biscuits
Thanks for watching.
In my 8"Lodge Dutch oven . Use ur receipt and my home made biscuits. And Gravy . Mmm good. May 25,2020
YUM
Time to up my game on cooking, did this stuff back in my scouting days, time to dust off the old Dutch ovens. And fire up my Black Stone to go along. Thanks for the very good and detailed video. God's speed my new friend❤
YUMMY...I do want a bite 😉
Love your cooking and your music you have playing in the background. Can you tell me the name of that tune?
I really enjoyed this cook, and I think it convinced me to get the Lodge 2-quart camp dutch oven as my first dutch oven. I was considering the 4- or 5-quart versions, but now realize that perhaps that would be a bit much for one or two people.
Ok, you convinced me; that looks delicious. I need to start learning to cook with a Dutch Oven. I’m pretty good at grilling & smoking but this is a whole new level! Give me something to learn while Social Distancing & hopefully be the camp rockstar in the fall! I’m in Florida too & regularly shoot Sporting Clays @ The FWC Tenoroc Range but they’re close.
Thanks for watching. You have to come out and see the great folks at Polk Sporting Clays. I love this place.
Backwoods Gourmet Channel I will. I’m a friend of /a friend of a Retired PCSO Deputy that is a member. Thanks for the great videos. Stay safe!
The lo-carb thing seems to be really working for you. When I view earlier videos I can really tell the difference. Good for you. I never would have thought to do the biscuits in with the gravy. I'm all for one-pot meals. Good job!!
Thanks. This was cheat day.
@@BackwoodsGourmetChannel everybody needs one.
Have you tried the crisbee iron seasoning ?
Social distance doesn't apply when it smells that good!? I can smell it from New York!! Looks great. Oh and I'm from New York state not the city!
In the UK we call that a cobbler,
Breakfast at the gun club. What could be better?
Man ol man
I LOVE biscuits and gravy and my family (wife, 3 kids, and the dog) demand it every time we camp, and sometimes at home on the weekends. I have to use a 9 quart Dutch oven to fit what we need for our family! I have a few comments and wonder if you could comment. 1) I find that the gravy should initially be quite thin. As some of the liquid cooks down it thickens, and it thickens further as it cools. And I like a nice pourable gravy with mine, something I can really ladle on. So starting with it thinner then you think it should be seems to be a good rule of thumb. 2) The tighter I cram the biscuits in the more I seem to get better vertical rise. The more room I give them the more they expand horizontally. Do you notice anything similar?
To bad I have to cut on the carbs, I love eating biscuits and gravy 🤤
Florida?
Yeh, they closed our local ranges. Looks good though.
Could you use grands premade biscuits? Roughly what cooking time were the biscuits in there for? Thanks!
Canned biscuits would work fine. I wouldn’t use frozen biscuits for this though.
Also, cook time for biscuits, or anything else, in a dutch oven can vary due to variables (outside temp, wind, charcoal used, etc…).
I wonder if this technique will work with a stainless steel cooking pot and a camp stove. I'll have to give it a try.
The biscuits and gravy look pretty good how does the biscuits cook on the bottom I obviously haven't used my Dutch oven yet
The bottoms cook on top of the gravy and the steam helps. It really work well believe it or not. Thanks for watching.
Thanks
Drop a couple of fried eggs on top of that and you've made the perfect breakfast.
You sir, are a GENIUS!
I like my Gravy more loose at the end, so I would imagine to make it more soupier so it will be loose as the end product, correct? What was total cook time and rough temperature? I like to use my Temp Gun.
Sloopy is my plan too. Can’t help with temp. I just watch, spin, + or - bricks. Eat!
Country living at its best. Just got on line to research the 8" lodge, and think I'll order one just for this. Between you and Texas style BBQ, I'm still trying to catch up. Also, the bacon wrapped meatloaf I did last night was awesome. Nothing but thumbs up from us and the neighbor.
Thanks for watching Alfred.
Ok, what recipie is southern biscuit mix? Is it homemade, or box mix?
It is a mix, just add milk or buttermilk. See here: amzn.to/35zWbcn
Where are you at? You can cook breakfast and let’s go shooting sporting clays
So... How much does your Sporting Clay's Club charge for a round of Clay's and then a big plate of those Biscuits and Gravy..?
How easy would it be to scale this up to a shallow 12”?
Double the ingreients and it will work great. Thanks for watching.
Awesome, I’m going to try this on the next camp out in my lodge 12” shallow...
Now I'm ready for the Gun Range
Is this Jeff Lowe?
Would be nice to have recipe times and temps in the notes
This was fascinating. Want to learn to cook outdoors like this some. You could not have picked a better menu!! Thanks for showing how to do this and including the Puppy Bomb. I had a short legged Jack Russell that broke my heart when she left. Just fyi--constructive criticism if that is ok...the background noise was sort of annoying. I wouldn't have kept watching had it not been a recipe I really wanted to know. I'm just saying, when other videos are done with competitive background noise...whether it's a train, traffic, barking dogs, screaming/laughing kids. I think your video is great but wanted to let you know some people will not keep watching a video when that happens. Hope this helps. Jesus bless.

Are the biscuits like a bread or a scone? I've never heard the term biscuit out side of what Americans call cookies.
They would be more scone like than bread in texture. I believe those are preformed refrigerated canned biscuits he is using. Those biscuits have the fat dispersed throughout the dough in particulates created by the mixing process. This type of biscuit works well for the biscuits and gravy recipe. Look up a recipe for "drop biscuits ", they are similar except use cold butter chopped into tiny pieces into the dry mix consisting of all the dry ingredients (usually all purpose flour, salt, sugar and baking powder). Add milk and blend ingredients, the key is not to overmix or they wont be tender and flaky. Biscuits can be "dropped " from a spoon onto a bake sheet or they can "stamped" or cut out in the round shape first.
So...what if you don't have fresh milk?
Diluted cream? Half n half. Need something like that.
So, some chicken broth would work but need to adjust the flour for thickness of the gravy.
Love the gunfire going on in the background! America!!
Why do you never show Mrs backwood
If you were a subscriber, you would have just seen her in the last few videos.... if your notifications are fully enabled.
Bring WHAT off the bottom of the pot??
It is called fond. It is the layer of cooked on residue from cooking the sausage. Tons of flavor in the fond!
