Breakfast cooked in a Dutch oven over a campfire! We where able to do a little cast iron cooking this weekend when we went to work on our homestead. Due to not having electricity or water yet we decided to build a campfire and cook over it.

  • I'm a Civil War reenactor and I look for cast iron cooking videos to try to get new ideas for the camp. I like the simplicity of this one. May have to try it on the boys 🙂

  • Ryan I like how you're taking us back to how mom and dad used to cook back in the days. Thank you for giving us good demonstrations because we may have to go back to that, but they know how to survive back in those days. Tim Williams

  • Super! Thank you. Goodness, that is hearty! I think I would put some onion in with the red pepper because I love them together so much. I just got a dutch oven and used charcoal. I was intimidated about using wood but you inspired me. Any recommendations on what type(s) of wood to use or avoid?

  • Ryan, great job really enjoy DO cooking. Have you ever been to a "DOG" aka Dutch Oven Gathering"? I stumbled upon one about 7 years ago incredible cooks. For your cook you had me at the bacon. Nice looking breakfast and awesome way to bring your pop into the video with the bread memory.

  • The thing that confuses me is when to cook. I take it, you wait until wood is ash? So it's a steady heat and flames aren't hitting the pot?

  • I wish you would have showed a better angle of setting the dutch oven on the fire. Was it resting on a log?
