  • Thanks for the video. I enjoyed your laid back style. I'm looking forward to that potato soup video. Best quote of the video; "we're not portion control people"

    • Very informative about temperature control and coal count. I do alot of cast iron cooking but have always been intimidated with the Dutch oven. This eased my mind and I've I'll definitely get one. Here's my tip, I've owned a restaurant in the past and learned that cracking an egg on a flat surface creates less chance of egg shells in a dish verses cracking on an edge of a container.

Had my good neigbor clean it up nice.. looks brand new again. Watching you cook and bake here makes be want to try my luck with it. God bless ya and thanks for the great video.

  • Just like we used to make it in the Boy Scouts back in the 1970s. Four potatoes diced, 1 onion diced, dozen eggs, 1lb bacon and enough cheese slices to cover the top...If you missed lunch you were still OK till dinner! If I recall right we had biscuits in another D.O. to mop it up with. Great video! Always do the potatoes and onions in that bacon grease!

  • Mountain Man Breakfast is something that my dad always made when we were camping. You are one of the few people that I have heard of that shared his enjoyment of turning it into a breakfast burrito as a way of making variety. And as someone who enjoys re-enacting the pre-Civil War era mountain man lifestyle, this is an awesome recipe to keep in your quiver. May your powder stay dry! Panther Eye

    • Just the greatest. I love it. I like to dice my bacon, fry it, dump the potatoes in just like you done. . About 4 strip of bacon and 3 eggs per person spices and cover in cheeze. You're a good man. I am about your size. A beer while I am waiting for , coffee, the best life ever.

  • Hi friend! I enjoyed your beautiful video with the delicious looking mountain man breakfast! I would like to request your pops potatoe salad and maybe a meat dish. I love cast iron dutch ovens and cooking outside just like you do! I make a great chili bean and mexican cornbread recipe! I also bake pizza in my 14 " deep cast iron dutch oven which always comes out fast and delicious! Today im making a mexican style mountain man breakfast with pork chorizo, fried cubed cut potatoes, thick cut bacon and cheese and of course lots of eggs! I wish you could come eat with us! You should try adding chorizo to this dish! Just fry the potatoes until they are fully browned and somewhat crisp! You have to cook the chorizo in a cast iron 8 inch frying pan or 10 "dutch oven so you can drain all the rendered fat from it. Its somewhat greasy cause its pork. I love how the chorizo colors your potatoes a lovely reddish orange color with cheese and very well scrammbled eggs mixed in well. Ok so thank you my new friend..pls cook more for us and you didnt mention God at all but please pray daily..never cheat the man upstairs!! He loves you brother. Stay safe !!

    @elidavalles8304@elidavalles83046 жыл бұрын
    • Elida Garza you are right. I am a praying man too. I do need to thank God for blessing me. Thank you for bringing that up. I will try chorizo in my breakfast. I bet your breakfast is great as well. I am going to be cooking something next week when I get home.

    • Elida Garza well. Let's see. This is not a religious Chanel BUT with saying that I do believe in the load and Jesus Christ so with saying that I will be talking about my beliefs but as you can see by my videos I don't push my beliefs on any one. I don't care if you believe in a tree. You believe what you want and I will believe what I want and I will voice that as I feel the need. Just like you do. I don't want this to turn into a religious battle but I just want you to know I'm not going or have pushed my beliefs one any one but I will talk about my load and savior. I wish you all a very blessed day.

    • Tj, I'm in Western Montana and if you like this video you will like Montana and it's people but stay away from the larger cities 50 k or bigger. Just don't tell anybody else please. One of the best things about Montana and Wyoming is the lack of people. I too suffered living in the east but always knew the northern Rockies was where I should be. Go for a visit in late September or early October. No mosquitos, crisp nights, warm days and fall colors. Head out before mid October as that's the start of hunting season. If you like big game hunting look at a place called broken arrow Lodge in alder Mont but bring a 454 casull or bigger as there have been several bear attacks the last few years.

  • You're making me hungry too! I'm picking up cast iron pans second hand as I can find them. My Dutch oven has a bit of stickiness inside and I'm wondering if I go ahead and cook with it or what to do with it? I know not to use soap. I'm working at getting prepared, praying we won't need it but with the current disaster in Washington it may come sooner. God bless you all, may we have good food, health and peace.

    • Debra Pate cooking is the best way to get rid of the stickiness and if it has a bad smell just use a little hamburger and then ether throw it away or you can feed it to the dog then when you clean it. Your right don't use soap and just enough oil to coat the oven. The stickiness is because of to much oil and it got dried out. Let me know if this helped. Thanks for watching.

    • sounds like the pot needs seasoning. Traditionally you'd take it to the blacksmith or baker who would bring the pot up to a very dull red and hold it there for 10-15 minutes minimum. Allow to cool naturally and that should be good to go. You can cover the base with a thin layer of salt or coat with a good high temperature vegetable oil to help create a carbon "crust" but if it's a good quality pot - heat is all you need.

  • So much truth to those words towards the end of the video brother some folks don’t ever learn to cook the outdoors way like in a Dutch oven and God forbidding a catastrophe ever happens it’s great to know those survival skills! Your style is great by the way! Followed it and I loved it!

  • Enjoyed your video. I have several cast iron pans but no Dutch ovens. I just ordered a Lodge 14” wok. Can’t wait to try some stir fry! Love doing pizza on my cast iron skillets too. Thanks for sharing your ideas for using the ovens. I must invest in one!
