Join me as I set off on another epic tank build. This time the incredible 1/6 scale Hetzer or Jagdpanzer 38 tank by Armortek.
In this video - I take the tank on its first road test to see how the tracks are operating and interacting with the drive motors. I will need to remove a link but I will walk you through the entire process.
Hope you enjoy

  • Fantastic to see all the time you’ve invested into this project paying off as the Hetzer comes to life.

    • Thank you....still more work required, but it is starting to come together...A challenging, but equally rewarding build this one.

  • No doubt you will have noticed yourself Tony, but on screen I can see that the binding that was there initially between the drive wheels has now been removed. You suggested in an earlier session that would disappear when the weight of the 38 came down on the suspension and you were correct, as we saw when the bike jack came down, but the link removal and re-tensioning has now removed it altogether. Good stuff mate.👍👍👍👍👍

    • Thanks Chris, much appreciated. Still a learning exercise on this tank and that is why I have grown so fond of it. I am really pleased how this is running...just need to fine tune the operational aspects of it, but more work ahead on this before I can do that. Have a great weekend and thank you for your continued amazing support.

  • Nice maneuvering with the tank on its maiden run. We all have our bugs to fix and get it better. I know you will figure it all out and make it right. Continue on there Tank Commander!!!

    • Thanks Bill...i was a tad apprehensive as I know other builders had issues with the taper lock and drive, but I guess i was lucky....I have made all the adjustments I think it needed and now running so much better. Hope all is well with you and yours and thank you also for your continued amazing support.

    • @@tonys_workshop Tony: Need some help, looking for a 1:4 scale road wheel for a Tiger 1 to copy and scale to my new project. If anyone over there in the UK has a spare one or can put me in touch with someone who does, much appreciated.

    • Hi Bill....1:4 scale...the only firm I know of here in the UK that used to supply that scale was "mark-1-tanks" Not sure if they still operate and whether or not they could supply spare parts, but may be worth looking into? If you Google ""mark-1-tanks" it should come up. Hope this helps.

  • Very impressive. I love following the builds of these 1/6 scale tanks. I really would like to build one. They're just a little out of my budget right now. Thanks for all of your videos. I'm learning quite a bit about them.

  • It was great seeing it run! Continue taking the time to get it done properly. It's well worth the wait. The size difference between the Hetzer and the M26 was very surprising to me, I knew there would be a difference. I didn't realize how drastically different they actually were. I'm looking forward to the next installment. I hope you and yours are well. Thank you for sharing this with us. Cheers!

    • Hi Michael and thank you. It is incredible the difference in the size and I have to admit, I love the M26....It was before its time and I love that Armortek have been so true to it's original design. The Hetzer is much smaller, but it still packed a punch and I do love its design and complexities...It has made the build very challenging, but also rewarding. Have a great rest of the weekend.

  • You are a Machine Tony bud, 3 running Armorteks You know when you call the Hetzer little that you really are used to the 1/6 scale Runs well like you said link out be fine Talking to one of the guy's the Alloy sprockets wore out very quickly so we're replaced with steel which I think is good as AT realised they weren't up to the job Persing looks and sounds superb! Got to be honest the Tiger is definitely my favourite And you're wife's a keeper letting you drive it on the patio😂😂 Look forward to the next one

    • "tony three tanks"🤣 Thanks Gary....this kit is actually very challenging, but I love it...Yes...AT changed the sprockets to steel and I can see why...I think it has to do with the smaller width tracks?? The steel sprocket rings and removing a link now works so well...I am buzzing about when I can get this bad boy driving correctly and setting up a 'Tank off' with all three...May need you to pop round to help with that video mate. Perhaps you could even bring yours? Have a great rest of the weekend mate and look forward to meeting up soon.

  • When having the tank up the motorcycle stand you might add some wooden blocks under the wheels, then lower the tank slightly. With the wheels having some load now this should give you some more slack when removing a track piece. Man, I am already talking as if I owned an Armortek kit! 😜 Tony, there is no weekend without another video from you! Cannot wait for next week! Greetings from Germany!

  • So glad the locking bushes behaved for you. I can confirm that loose tracks made the damage to the Aluminium sprockets worse but even with that I never noticed my tracks binding over the extended running but maybe they were and I didn't catch it. Your Pershing does look rather good and sounds great, perhaps the only weakness of the Hetzer is the rather weedy engine noise...

    @daniel_scholefield@daniel_scholefield2 ай бұрын
    • Hi Daniel, I guess I was lucky with the taper locks....so far so good. Removing a link and the introduction of the steel sprocket rings definitely seem to have improved the performance. Do you think it is because of the narrow track gauge these issues existed? I will swap the bass and treble around as I did on the M26 to see if this improves the sound. Have a great rest of the weekend.

  • I believe the Williams F1 pit team were so impressed with your track link extraction, they have been on the phone and have offered you a job changing the tyres for the upcoming season!? Joking aside nice to see her running, and the size comparison between your other two makes this one look so minuscule! Glad all is running well, and may the build continue with aplomb

    @MartinFutter70@MartinFutter702 ай бұрын
    • 😂 Thanks Martin. Once complete, I will get all three running and do a sort of 'Tank off' with them. I will have to recruit some help to get them running at the same time, but I think it would be cool to see them all together. Thanks for your continued amazing support.

  • Looks sweet Tony! For me all the electronics and stuff that I have the least experience of so it's great you're making some time to go through it all. Lots to think about when it comes to the tracks, tension and so on just like on a real tank. And it comes down to preventing stuff breaking down basically. Not fun when the tracks are tangled in between the drive wheel just because you didn't take the time to tension it properly. Also the Leopard 2 is just a few weeks away now from shipping. Jeez it's like I've been waiting for Christmas for almost a year now. And these electronic and drive parts have gone around my head now to prepare for when I come to that part of the build. Anyway can't wait for the next video and the Pershing looks real cool. Looked like a dad taking his kid for a walk 😅 // Kris

    • Hi Kris....it must be so frustrating waiting...I can only imagine...I would love to build the Leopard as it looks incredible and especially as they have upgraded the drive system....Glad that my videos are helping and please don't get hung up on "can I do this?" as Armortek try and make it accessible for guys like us...Just time, space and patience and you will crack it. You must post some updates on the Forum as I would love to see this. If I can help in any way, I will be glad to do so. Have a great weekend.

  • Fascinating seeing the two in direct relation to one another, had you rotated the Pershing turret while idling next to the Hetzer, I'm certain the gun would have cleared the top of the smaller vehicle, enormous size difference, speaking of which, that must have been a pretty claustrophobic fighting compartment on the Hetzer, it's really not much larger than the Pershing's turret, also have to say you have a nice home, great patio area

    @jeffturnbull9661@jeffturnbull96612 ай бұрын
    • Hi Jeff, great to hear from you. It is incredible to see them both next to each other and you are right...the space in the Hetzer was so restrictive and hard to escape from..The German crews used to refer to them as "coffins' for that reason....The M26 is an incredible design and it is a shame as a lot of historians believe it would have potentially brought the war to an end sooner. It was ahead of its time then and still looks awesome now. Thanks for your comments on my home...I built this and it took nearly 10 years of hard work. Hope all is well with you and yours.

  • Good video. I'm going back to last week's video, I understand the wiring of the batteries and the charging leads, what do you put on the end that you connect the charger to? How do you keep those connections from grounding to something while not connected to the charger? Speaking of batteries, I am having a bit of difficulty locating a 12v 22ah battery. Do you know if a 12v 20ah will work, or a 12v 26ah will work ? The battery mentioned in the motion instructions seem to be an England thing!thanks for your time, I am and have learned a lot .
