31-year-old Brett Marneweck, a seasoned field guide, experienced this once-in-a-lifetime sighting-the miracle of life-and shared it with LatestSightings.com.
"We headed out on our afternoon safari, planning to have our sundowner overlooking a nearby dam. We positioned ourselves on the dam’s wall and took in the scene of hippos and birds all going about their day. Little did he know that this moment would soon transform into something truly extraordinary."
"In the distance, something caught my eye-an elephant seemingly in distress. Curiosity piqued, I reached for my binoculars to get a closer look. Shocked and in awe, I realized it was an elephant giving birth!"
"Understanding the sensitivity of the situation but also the rarity of such, we decided to reposition ourselves, ensuring we didn't cause any additional stress to the mother elephant but also getting in close enough to watch without our binoculars."
"In our process of moving, we lost sight for a minute, and when we eventually regained visual, the calf was already out. Laying on the ground a newly born elephant calf!"
"The mother elephant then did something so strange; she turned and left. But she returned a few moments later, and that’s when I thought she might be a first-time mother. Her behavior was a mix of nervousness, excitement, and curiosity."
"The mother elephant tried helping the calf to stand, nudging rather roughly. Her inexperience showed, but eventually it was a heartwarming sight. The baby elephant finally stood, leaning against its mother for support."
"With persistence, the calf attempted to suckle. We knew it was time to leave the new family and their peaceful bonding. We wanted to give them the space they needed to nurture their connection without any interruptions."
"It's these moments that remind us of the preciousness of life and the intricate balance of nature. Such moments inspire us to cherish our planet's diverse inhabitants and their remarkable journeys through existence."

Not heartfelt. The baby is about to be ripped apart. The mother is anxious and terrified this isn't a cute video if that baby didn't figure out how to walk then and there rhe second part of this video is him being eaten. You can hear the lion grunts in the background audio of the video
She knows that if that calf doesn’t stand, it will be eaten. It’s a do or die situation. Desperate was the right definition for the mother. After 2 years of gestation, the least the calf can do is to live
*Indeed, the stakes are high in the wild and the urgency of the situation is palpable. The mother's desperation reflects a deep instinctual drive to ensure her calf's survival. After the long gestation period, her efforts are a testament to the circle of life and survival in nature*

She was like a wild woman poor baby was doing good and then momma knocks him down.
How lovely to see the mother's concern for her baby to stand up. Her cries out loud sound so majestic, as if she's saying, "come on baby get up this way you can do it" 😊😊😊😊
Or "come on, there're predators around us"
What a touching moment, momma is right there to give her newborn inspiration, life as an animal is just as tough! They are much more courageous without complaining as some humans I've seen! Good luck baby, you will thrive🎉
One power mom, maternal instinct is awesome!💪🏻
What are you talkin about, she was bitching the whole time. 😅 Lol...jk

She has to get it to stand up before any predators come. Bless her.
Indeed that was the Mother's main concern. We talking of the jungle here.
Yea most of the time predators aren’t gonna get it while being born. That mom has a whole group of elephants watching her back
I hope the baby continues to stand strong. Otherwise it'll get picked of by a lion pride or hyena clan. But I'm sure the herd will help her. Elephants are incredible.
Pretty sure the elephants would deck any predator that even attempts to come close to an offspring that took a year to have.
*Indeed, the early hours of a baby elephant's life are critical and filled with dangers. However, elephants are known for their strong social structures and protective instincts, especially towards calves. The entire herd will often rally to protect the vulnerable, demonstrating their remarkable solidarity.*

*Observing the profound bond between an elephant mother and her newborn is truly moving. The desperation you mention is a testament to her innate maternal instincts to ensure her calf's survival. In these early moments, it's crucial for the baby elephant to stand and start nursing*
The mother looked devastated every time the newborn tipped over despite all her efforts to keep it upright 😢 I love how this video shows just how gentle these large, 5-ton beings can be. I wonder if there was is any extended footage of the ending.
I watched the video with tears in my eyes what happened with the baby elephant and her momma?😢😢😢

*The tender care expressed by the elephant mother towards her newborn is indeed heartwarming and a testament to the emotional depth of these majestic creatures. Despite their massive size, they exhibit such gentleness. Your curiosity about extended footage is shared by many, as the outcome of these struggles deeply engages us.*
Seems the mother is agitated because of the presence of the observers! She at one point looked as if she was going to abandon her newborn. The concern and impatience are most likely due to the arrival of the safari onlookers. She's away from the herd for a reason... PRIVACY! Duh.
@@StandingFirmAlways this could play a factor. However, we also consider that she seems to be quite young. This is probably her first baby. Hopefully, she'll get the hang of it soon with some aid from her own mother and aunts

It is called mother nature and these wonderful creatures have been thriving in this great and beautiful continent for millions of years. The west has corrupted our perception of wild life.
@@islanddweller4263 Meanwhile, "the east" continues to pay money for poached rino horn to make their dicks hard. It's not the east, west, north, or south, my friend that is the problem, it is "humans" that mother nature has a problem with. Including you.

It’s amazing to see how graceful elephants are at that size
Nothing like a Mums love. 👏👏
The frailty of nature and life and death are known by this mother. They are so intelligent and she knows that her little one must learn to stand and walk as quickly as possible. She may have lost a calf previously and this may explain her urgency and distress. They are known to morn the lose of family members for long periods of time. I pray he will be okay and live a long and healthy life. They are truly majestic and extremely intelligent…I can’t understand why people harm them. There is so much danger in their natural environment including drought and predation by other animals. It’s a heartless act when humans add to their danger simply for greed or a trophy! They need our help…
@@thewinusa Well said…I hope humanity never loses touch with the importance of the diversity of our planet. It’s sad but it seems our largest and most majestic animals like whales and elephants have been targeted by humans for centuries because they are slow moving and so easy to spot and destroy. It’s ironic that both of those species are possibly the most intelligent and caring beings we share this earth with! “The path of least resistance leads to crooked rivers and crooked men!”
It was really touching to see the struggle to get this newborn to stand

Newborn elephant calves cannot stand immediately. It takes them a little while to be able to stand and a while longer to be able to walk. But like every other land animal, it needs to be able to start moving on its own pretty quickly otherwise it won't survive. The mother's concern is very understandable.

The cute Philon just came into the world.. Why is the mother so impatient and wants him to go immediately?..
Because it will mean impending doom if that baby can't get up and walk. It will be a huge target for every predator in the area.
@@tThisNThat So protect him for a few minutes.. Why is it so urgent that it be immediately?
@@user-sf6lm1po8r,, because whereas she's probably quite inexperienced as a mother,, she's probably very experienced seeing the smaller ones of her own kind or other species within her habitat become quick meals for all the many predators she instinctively knows lurk closely by. There's no time for coddling within her world,, not even minutes,, life can end as fast as it starts & it is her instinct alone pushing her newborn into steadying his legs beneath him. If he/she doesn't,, all those many months of gestation will be for naught with her ending up a distraught would be mother reflecting on her failure to coax her calf into one of it's most initial important traits,, "mobility" to survive. Elephants are that intelligent & sentient ,, it would haunt her.
Definitely dont want to be separated from the herd in open field like that
I wish them both along happy life.
The way the mother hesitated before trying to help her baby.... Giving it a chance to try on its own❤️. It sounded like mom was saying "RIGHT THERE! YOU - got it" (baby falls over) 😄
*For one elephant mother, however, the joy of welcoming her calf into the world was soon replaced by desperation as she struggled to get her newborn to stand.*

"Come on, stand up. What are you? Human? I'm gonna have to wait for a year or so?"

Baby better get it together quick and fast before predators draws near 😬
Indeed, the urgency of the situation is palpable. In the wild, survival often depends on how quickly newborns can get on their feet and blend into the herd. Predators are always on the lookout for opportunities. However, it's also inspiring to see how the herd comes together to protect their vulnerable members.*
