An obviously grumpy elephant is in a river with what looks like 25+ hippos and crocs. He tries very hard to chase all of them away, even kicking some!
BOOK YOUR TRIP TO KRUGER: bit.ly/BookatKruger
As the elephant causes pandemonium, a baby hippo finds itself stranded along on the bank. The elephant sees this baby and does the unthinkable! It heads straight towards the baby and starts attacking it!

This one of a kind interaction between an elephant and hippos was captured by 57-year-old ex-security professional, Gordon Crundwell, while on safari with his wife near Shingwedzi, Kruger National Park.
Gordon tells LatestSightings.com the story: “We stopped at the viewpoint and noticed that the pool was full of hippos - over 25 of them, and also many crocodiles were laying on the bank. We watched an elephant come down to drink in the pool, but he seemed to get upset with the hippos and got into the water and started chasing them.”
“The elephant was getting more agitated and started thrashing and trumpeting, causing chaos in the pool. The elephant started chasing all the hippos out of the pool. During the commotion, a baby hippo was left alone on the sandbank. The elephant walked towards the baby and started pushing it around with his trunk, he then threw the baby in the air further up the sandbank!”
“Luckily he left the baby hippo alone and returned to the water where he continued to trumpet and thrash the water around. The action did not stop there, the baby hippo seemed okay and returned to the water where he then followed the elephant. While the elephant was getting out of the water the baby hippo was nipping at his rear foot - this seemed to further agitate the elephant who then tried to kick the baby hippo away. The baby hippo continued to follow the elephant out of the water where a rock blocked what appeared to be another angry attack on the baby hippo - the elephant lost interest quite quickly and walked away.”
“While the elephant was causing such a commotion, the crocodiles were feasting on the fish that had been chased onto the bank.”
“In over 50 years of visiting game parks, I have never seen an elephant and hippo interaction like this! If you see something different going on, keep the camera rolling as you never know what you might capture!”

For those who didn't know: Young male elephants that don't have an elder male elephant around them tend to kill other animals for no reason. It happens
Wait a minute.....I think I saw the same comment somewhere else also
Yep 100% true
Actually they do it because the elder bull elephants cast them away from the herd to disallow them from mating with females. These young bulls are in reality extremely 'horny' sexually frustrated males that take their frustrations out on anything they find, be it trees or other animals.
This young male elephant is clearly in "musth". However, despite everything, we must understand that it is a wild animal and we must not humanize it. We cannot interpret the actions and behaviors of animals and judge them based on human society. What differentiates us from other animals is precisely this ability of discernment so refined that we have developed. And even with this advanced capacity for discernment that we've developed our society is still quite violent. So it's unfair to place so many expectations on animals. We produce an artificial world and destroy the natural world. Humanizing animals is also a way of harming them. It's a strong scene, but this is their world. If anyone is interested in knowing more about the behavior of the elephant, I recommend some materials: >Research article "Older bull elephants control young males" published by Rob Sotow et Al in the scientific journal Nature >Documentary "Teen Elephants Gone Wild" from David Tereshchuk >Documentary "El Rey Elefante" with Caitlin O’Connell, an elephant behavior scientist >"Teenage elephants need a father figure" by Lucy Freeman in the BBCEarth >"Orphan elephants go on the rampage" by Eddie Koch in the NewScientist

I think he must be in musth, he was very aggressive. But, usually, telltale signs an elephant is in musth is by liquid excretion, but he is in water, so it's hard to see.

A staggering 50% of the people who voted in the poll posted by Kruger yesterday of what the elephant would do to the baby hippo voted that the elephant would “help it back into the water” over the two other options of stabbing it or ignoring it. And just like I said on that poll, I will reiterate that Disney and anthropomorphism have done an excellent job at warping people’s minds about wild animals. Nature isn’t rainbows and sunshine like people want to think.

People in the poll literally thought the elephant would help the little hippo. But actually it's totally the opposite of it and for a strong reason. Elephants are extremely aggressive animals and they won't tolerate any other competitor in their territory. In very rare cases some elephants may ignore, forgive or help others but not here surely!!
That isn't true at all, Elephants and Hippos tend to get along.
