AGING a 18th Century CHÂTEAU | How to Make STONE Look Old. Ep 87

Bonjour à tous,
This week at the château, Ash and Tracy try something new. Now both the entrance walls are complete and rendered both look a little to new and need to blend in with the original stone work around the château, so the pair get to work creating a mixture to age and weather the new stone work, but there will need a strong stomach to deal with it.

About us,
We are a family from the North-East of England following our dream to restore a beautiful abandoned french Château. We discovered the heart stopping Château De Lalacelle in summer of 2020, this beautiful architectural monument Is set in the countryside of North-West France.
The moment we visited the Château we all fell in love, from the beautiful sweeping landscape and forests, to its stunning untouched interiors and magnificent spiral staircase in the turret.
Unfortunately Château De Lalacelle has been abandoned for a number of decades so will need a lot of restoration and DIY.
Please subscribe and follow our families journey, with the up’s and down’s in moving from the UK to rural France and restoring this beautiful building to its former glory.

  • Ash, and Terry yous had me dry heaving watching and hearing you age the wall! If I smell something off I puke 🤮 immediately, I h8 it. It’s only started in my late forties and at 57 it’s gotten much worse. Idk how you weren’t puking 🤢🤣🤣 After all that mess, I pray those spores stick! Tracy, your a goddess, there’s nothing you can’t do or try and succeed. Your truly incredible. I’d be bedridden after 10 min of moving stones (boulders)! I’ve noticed since day one, you’ve all lost weight and gained more muscle. Everyday is a workout. But yous make it fun and do it together. God bless ♥️🇫🇷🏰⚜️☕️🫖👏

  • That was quite funny. I woke up this morning at 5.30am to find the man was spraying the outside of my house for spiders ...(no wind at that hour). As I wasn't sure which day he would come because of the wind factor, I had left a couple of windows open. So the smell of bug spray was right through the house. Made a coffee, turned the computer on, and for the next half hour you lot were heaving on one side of the camera and I was heaving on the other!! So now I am spider-free and you lot are growing moss!!! Cheers.

  • FYI, you can save yourselves a step if you have an old blender. Add moss to yogurt concoction and blend moss into it, then paint it on. Works pretty well. Loved watching the video...had me chuckling the whole time you were outside - I remember that smell! Thank you!

    • @2roddman2- Agreed, put the entire concoction into a blender, then paint it on the stone. I saw this method done years ago on a landscaping show. As a follow up, you will have to mist the moss regularly to keep it from drying out. If it dries out, it will not grow on the stone. It will take a few weeks until you see results.

  • Too funny. Tracey didn't erp once! An ex-boyfriend was teaching me how to gut a deer and I nicked the bowel. I was so confused when he ran away gagging the whole time (and him being a retired tough Green Beret). Didn't bother me none. I had to deal with pregnancy-induced odd food cravings and barfed at the sight of other foods which were normal recipes, baby poo, farm animal smells, exposed to all of it. I thoroughly enjoyed how y'all reacted to it. We call it Ralph'ing and Earl'ing, because those are what the sounds are translated to in English. And y'all did it again the next day. Great job.

And the best part about weathering is that it's a game of adding on and taking off, so each new thing gives new and different character to your piece. After you try those dank leaves on the other wall, you may find yourself running to add that to the front as well.

  • Yogurt and skyr make up a sizeable component of my protein intake along with cheese, beans, grains and eggs. While I'm not exactly vegan nor vegetarian, meat is not consumed daily and fish even less so. Though I must confess a certain fondness for both. So, what does this have to do with the video? Well, there have been times when a small container of yogurt has found its way to the back of the fridge, only to be discovered months later. It takes a long time for yogurt to "go off" but once it does, the smell is quite overwhelming. Tracy, Ash and Jonathan, I applaud you for your strong stomachs in tolerating the odor. Terry, you too, since you must have caught more than merely a whiff while operating the camera. Your collective dedication to detail in restoring the Château is amazing!! Thanks so much for sharing it!! 👍 P.S. Hello to Tony as well!! Chuck

  • Blend moss with buttermilk in a blender and paint it on all areas you want to grow moss. It will spread on its own with time but it will be tough if it is full sun. Moss requires moisture and shade.
