Bonjour à tous,
What have this crazy British family gone and done now, with a beautiful abandoned 18th century chateau to fully restore the family take a little timeout to look around another project. A abandoned village, 15 minutes away from Chateau de Lalacelle. You may think the chateau is a lot of work being abandoned for over 40 years, but this village is a little more, with the last person to live here in 1936, its a mammoth task for anyone to take on, do you think it is worth saving?

About us,
We are a family from the North-East of England following our dream to restore a beautiful abandoned french Château. We discovered the heart stopping Château De Lalacelle in summer of 2020, this beautiful architectural monument Is set in the countryside of North-West France.
The moment we visited the Château we all fell in love, from the beautiful sweeping landscape and forests, to its stunning untouched interiors and magnificent spiral staircase in the turret.
Unfortunately Château De Lalacelle has been abandoned for a number of decades so will need a lot of restoration and DIY.
Please subscribe and follow our families journey, with the up’s and down’s in moving from the UK to rural France and restoring this beautiful building to its former glory.

  • I was speaking to my husband about this opportunity and he asked me to ask Rob if he does buy it, we would be willing to buy one of the small buildings to refurbish and be a part of the new renovated village.

  • I’m thinking 10 not so deep pocketed people with $150k in free cash each and the ability to easily spend an additional $150k each over the next 5 - 10 years could make a go of it by forming a partnership if returning it to a village is the goal. As a retired architect and general contractor I would probably approach this project a bit differently than others to do something unique. I have the money, inclination and skill to do it, but at 70 years old, not enough time to enjoy it or finish it without a lot of help. But, I would love to spend the rest of my life there every day working on it none the less. What a great project. Folks forget the only resource we all have that is in short supply ….is time and it takes few prisoners. Count me in if it looks like there will be a group of folks taking the huge project on. Terry should have been an architect but he will train himself to be one in the end anyway.

    • I love your idea. I'm a small business adviser specializing in food service venues. It could be restored and turned into a vacation or wedding/events destination. With the acreage, a small cider orchard could be planted for an on-site cider mill and bottling facility, a few acres for goats to make cheese, breads baked in the bread oven, and small cottages and a spa and small cafe with formal and wild gardens. Throw in a few RV parking spaces and you're good to go. If a partnership were formed, it would allow for quicker and more beneficial focused restoration and thus, a speedier opening time.

  • To us over here in the USA, that’s 12. 1/3 acres and the boys are right, even if it were just empty land, you wouldn’t be able to buy land for $100,039.00 Such-a deal!! I live on 3 acres in North Central Florida and cleared land goes for more than that! I say go for it Rob though I don’t know what your line of business is or your money source. At 70 I look back at my life and sadly there are too many lost opportunities I now wish I’d acted on. I didn’t “Go For It” when my heart wanted to, caution won the day and now I live with my regrets. Always say “What’s the worst that can happen?” and if you can live with whatever that is.. your path is clear. My very best wishes are with you all. 💕🐥💕🐥💕

  • Potentially a beautiful place but there's easily a minimum of five years work, probably nearer 10 years. Well worth the asking price of €100,000 but it will cost at least another €1,000,000 to get it into any sort of shape. Whoever buys it will need deep pockets and lots of time.

  • Bonjour! There is NO DOUBT in my mind that if Lalacelle were near completion Terry & Ashe would have been drawing up a contract then and there! The land - beautiful, the buildings (gulp) defo are a mammoth task but can imagine this fully restored. ROB, you already know you have a LOT of fans on here and wouldn't it be awesome for you to have your own channel (along with the little pig) as you restore a deserving part of French history. Just saying.

  • You'll have a beautiful resort when you are finished.... I was already thinking the chateau was too small for your plans! It looks to only fit family guests and maybe two suites. The village will give you more options for those not wanting to camp out on the land around the chateau. Of course, that should put the building of cabins on hold... which should give you more privacy around your homestead too. This will work, but you'll be bringing in more help, right? The British Invasion all over again!

  • Beautiful place which was problably linked to the château. Just a little precision : this group of houses cannot be considered as a "village" in french but a "hameau" (hamlet). A village, is bigger and - generally - has a church or a chapel.

If you find a couple of like minded investors, it would be quite possible, as you’d share the larger cost of the restoration, and the work load. If someone doesn’t start something here soon, it could be too late.

  • Some of the buildings are in a terrible state but if you can look past the crumbling walls, holes in the ceilings etc. This is an amazing place. 'A hamlet' that with a vision and plenty of very hard work for many years will be a beautiful place. I think Rob is floating in happiness just looking at the buildings. I can see a dream for someone or for 2 or 3 people investing in this. Wishing you all the best of luck whatever you decide to do, I love seeing the restoration work you have done so far. • Wow, as Terry said, "Beautiful and enchanting".....the old stone and brick structures covered in ivy, broken doors and windows with their antique brass handles.... What's not to love about these wonderful old places where generations of families lived, worked, and grew old. It is definitely a mixed feeling of joy for the beauty and sadness for the abandonment of these once thriving homes. Would love to see this property brought back to life once again. True, 100,000 Euros is unbelievable for a property like this. Thank you for sharing.

We love what you are doing in your chateau focus on that. Let the village be as it is. No one needs a headache that big. Dont take on a project that will take years and years of your time and lose all your money doing it. Save your tears for joy not sadness and bankruptcy.

  • Some buildings are quite derelict , rotten wood collapsed staircases, & floors. The amount of mould in the walls caused by years of water infiltration from a failed roof would cost an absolute fortune just in materials to repair, let alone the labour. There is a good reason that Frenchmen stay away from such huge financial money pits. For every problem you can envisage there will be many more major issues that will arise. When nature reclaims houses, trees that have plant themselves within a structure will pull moisture into their roots, thus affecting the ground the walls sit on. After many years of abandonment ,you’ll often see major structural cracks, or bowing outwards of exterior walls. I would not buy this village before having a structural engineer evaluate each building.

  • Would the French government allow this to be revised and renovated for commercial use ? How much planning and approval would be needed to go forth ? Oh and I loved the way Rob was kicking the tires and checking under the hood so to speak. Some drone shots would have been good.

  • Incredible! To think it's just been sitting there for decades. I watched and wondered what it must have looked like when there were people living there. Still looks beautiful tho

  • What an amazing and beautiful project, the possibilities are endless, If a group of people all joined in it could be life changing. Go for it , life is so short🤗

  • I love seeing buildings, exterior walls, etc. made of stone, it's one thing that we don't have here in the states. Thanks for including us in your exploration of the villiage.

  • Wow that was fun and my back hurts just looking at the work to restore those buildings. Price is enticing but to old to do it now. Teri and Ash have the young vision to see past the rubble at its beauty.

  • Oh my gosh what a marvelous wonderland 🤩 the comments show a great deal of enthusiasm and ideas to help whomever signs on purchasing that land. If only I were 30.. yes!!

  • OMG - this is SUCH an amazing project! And the price, simply incredible!! This has so much potential and opportunities, it's hard to know where to start, thinking about all of them! I don't think there will be any issue in the owner selling it after this video - great job guys, showcasing the buildings and land! Would be very interested to know if Rob does decide to buy - if he is looking for partners/associates/tenents/etc. It's a huge project to take on by one person 🤗
