Trip To The Brocante For The Château. Ep 26

This week at the château, Terry heads back to Emmaus to see if the wardrobe he wanted is still there and just needs to get ash on side with it. Plus Terry is let out to have a look around he’s first brocante, which is never a good idea.
After spending 3 hours looking around Terry and Ash head back to the château with there new purchase, but will it be the wardrobe Terry wanted, a different wardrobe or something completely different?
Now it is just the heavy and hard job of getting our new purchase into the château.

We are a family from the North-East of England following our dream to restore a beautiful abandoned french Château. We discovered the heart stopping Château De Lalacelle in summer of 2020, this beautiful architectural monument Is set in the countryside of North-West France.
The moment we visited the Château we all fell in love, from the beautiful sweeping landscape and forests, to its stunning untouched interiors and magnificent spiral staircase in the turret.
Unfortunately Château De Lalacelle has been abandoned for a number of decades so will need a lot of restoration and DIY.

It can take months to find the right chandelier. So you really should always be on the lookout and grab it when you see it. And leave mr grumpy at home lol

I hope the 2 units are still there if you do go back to buy them. I imagine that they would sell quickly because they are so beautiful. I would have brought them quickly before anyone else does. If you do decide that you want them then I wouldn’t leave it too long to go back or you may be disappointed and find that they have already been sold. Great vlog and I could look around these shops for hours. I wish we had similar ones in the UK. X

Ash is a little harsh on poor Terry! Looking around and getting ideas or style options is all part of renovations. I know you are not at that point yet but it does not hurt to look and dream.

I can understand why some people watching would be offended with some of Ash's comments today...sometimes couples have very unique sarcastic joking habits or comments but from an outsider perspective it can be very hard to watch...maybe when editing next time you can have that in mind...because i have watched other episodes i know Ash is a sweetheart and I have also learned to appreciate his humor...

Even without electricity, it's a good idea to look at chandeliers and sconces. You might find the perfect things you know you'll want down the road ... things you may not see again, or may not see again at a fair price. It's good to invest when the opportunity strikes.
Yes that is exactly what I was about to write. Other chateau owners shop around, pricing, and when they are ready to go buy sometimes the prices have gone down....and sometimes they just wait until they do go down!

Very true then you just place them in storage in one of the unused rooms at the moment like other chateau owners do lol especially ummm can't remember which chateau but she has a whole small room with just chandeliers until she finds where she want them to go lol

I had a dachshund when I was a kid. He was a large show sized dog and he could be mean and obstinate. But I loved that dog. They are prone to hip displacia and neck problems.
He is a little cutie 🥰
The dachshund we have now, Tucker, just recently went completely blind, overnight! Apparently that’s a thing in dachshunds and a few other breeds as well. He’s getting better at adapting to his new reality, and we give him lots of love and security.

The matching cabinets are marvelous. A change of fabric needed but would look great in place. Providing they fit of course.

Ash is getting some bashing here, but I think sometimes he is the voice of reason for Terry. But Ash you need to lighten up, some Us subscribers love the brocantes and charity shops, and buying things before you have electricity, like chandeliers and sconces are important, especially if they are at a good price. You have a large chateau and it is going to need a lot of lighting. Take a lesson from Stephanie at Chateau Diaries, she has been purchasing items since she was 17 for a chateau she didn't get until she was 29. Go for it Terry, look through the chateau rooms and dress them in your head, right down to what you would like to see in all the rooms, then present it to Ash for his input, not criticism Ash. And Terry, always look up, as well as down and around so you don't miss anything. Love your channel and love you both. ♥

Perfect for the grand salon. Just treat it for wood worm before taking it into the chateau. I would see about stain glass instead of fabric.
I tell myself that I dont have expensive taste, I just adore quality craftsmanship.
Ash has a LOT to learn about shopping with a" significant other"... he would be likened to me shopping with my own husband when we first bought our home together. The part that I find "kind of" amusing (yet not entirely amusing) is that he admits he doesn't have the "eye for it" or "seeing the vision" that Terry has. My husband learned early on that I did have an eye for design and style... and he (in a rather short period of time) came to trust my choices, my decisions, and my vision. He did not try to "control" me. He trusted me. Very clever... handing off the heavy end to Mum and Tony... way to go boys! Also, words of advice... measure the spaces... put them in your phone or in a notebook so that whilst you are shopping for pieces for "specific" spaces, you'll know what sizes you need and what to buy. AND... take the tape measure with you whilst shopping.

Terry & Ash, the pair of carved cabinets are wonderful and an appropriate grand scale for the size of your chateau. I hope you can manage to get them as you both seem to like them each as much! The "fabric" panel in their doors was a strange choice by a previous owner but I'm sure the two of you will find something more appropriate for your grande salon. Was thinking a piece of antique tapestry or finding an antique aged mercury mirror cut that would have a great look. (My guess is there's two Rembrandt portraits, framed within the arches, and covered by that modern fabric 😉!)

Ash: "Do Not Look Up"! Love your humor and the rapport between you and Terry. Terry has such vision and enthusiasm but needs you, Ash, to ground him. You two make a good team. It must be very difficult to have such a huge project with such magnificent potential but have to work within a budget and tend to so many practical considerations before you can get to the fun parts. I have lived in a number of older modest houses (1786 to 1820) and it can get frustrating to have to put so much time and money into the structure itself, which often can't even be seen, when you want to be doing the decoration, enhancements and other fun things! Hope you can get the two big pieces for the salon as a reward for your work so far and a promise of things to come.

I honestly think Ash is curbing Terry, not to get ahead of himself. Renovations first, then furniture. Otherwise they will be moving stuff around from one room to another. It all takes time and energy. One step at a time.

I watch you all and am amazed at the change in your project. Just a note. You can clean the old window and door fittings by dropping them in a crock pot and turning it on high. I check them every hour. You can watch the paint turning soft and starting to come off by itself after about 2 hours. But I check it every hour just in case. I learned this from the show here in America called Rehab Addict with Nicole Curtis and it works like a charm.

You know, most of the wardrobe I've seen people buy from other Chateaux, the wardrobes can be easily taken apart for moving them and easily reassembled. Also, definitely get those matching units. Very unique and would be great in your chateau.
