About us,
We are a family from the North-East of England following our dream to restore a beautiful abandoned french Château. We discovered the heart stopping Château De Lalacelle in summer of 2020, this beautiful architectural monument Is set in the countryside of North-West France.
The moment we visited the Château we all fell in love, from the beautiful sweeping landscape and forests, to its stunning untouched interiors and magnificent spiral staircase in the turret.
Unfortunately Château De Lalacelle has been abandoned for a number of decades so will need a lot of restoration and DIY.
Please subscribe and follow our families journey, with the up’s and down’s in moving from the UK to rural France and restoring this beautiful building to its former glory.

  • So Exciting!!!!! I am a history nut and am so happy that some of the chateau's missing years can be slowly uncovered. Your enthusiasm for the history will bring fresh joy and inquiry to the town and all of us. Any new details will be a priceless gift for the region. I bet there are many local history buffs who will be skippy happy that your channel can bring new insights and attention. Happy Discoveries! 😊 I am imagining history buffs gathering on the grounds yearly and many history tourists staying at the chateau through the year. One of the outbuildings could become a mini museum or items could be displayed in the chateau. You are all Creative so you will find great ways to celebrate it all. Thanks for the Great video. I can't wait to see the beginning. 🙂

    • A better class of fly tipping as an empty site for fifty years and no one knows when it was done,if it's your old building may be dumped by the track in the woods and original site reused in cultivation again as the trees there are much younger.

  • Maybe you can screw the big cartwheels together into a big sphere. You can plant potato vine around it and let it climb up. It will be a big green ball by the end of the summer. You can also hang the sheen from the ceiling in the barn and attach flowers to it, once the barn is a Wedding venue.

  • I suggest using the detector around the château itself if you're looking for lost valuables. They had to have discarded things somewhere. Every farm has a tip or dump. They likely burned what they could snd the nails, screws and metal fastening are left behind. You're likely to find old glass, pottery or porcelain pieces too, since they wouldn't burn in a fire. There might be some things of interest there. You really need to set Jonathan and his friends loose to scavenge for treasure.

  • Perhaps contact a French university with an archeology department. They might have students that would want to explore and investigate the site and records to gain more information. If there is a producer's name on the tiles, you can check to see if they are still in business and if they have any sales records from the time of the chateau's build.

  • How lovely that Patrick's initial is on the weathervane. Kind of him to share his home with all of you. 🐾🐾 I would love to see a current map of the property overlaid on an old one. Your video left me with so many questions! Why has the bluebell path not become overgrown with forest trees or ivy or bramble? Is the ground shallow there, i.e., is it cobbled a foot or more below? I'm in the US and we don't have lovely bluebells like that 😞 That WHITE bluebelle 😍 Why would anyone want to gather, pick up, carry, and dump stone in the woods in such a scattered and random fashion? I mean, why not ONE pile??? Just seems like a LOT of manual labor for no purpose. One tile looked like it had been in a fire. Did a structure burn and then stone was taken to build later buildings? That would make more sense for the disbursal of the stone. The carriage wheels - where is the fourth one? How far apart did you find them? I could understand an old, possibly wrecked, carriage left to disintegrate; maybe kids over the years moved the wheels. If left to fall apart there should be more metal in that area. Do you think what you are calling the farm house was the old manor house? That would explain the layout of the property. (Is it currently occupied? Could you buy it back? 🤩) Some elder in the surrounding area should be able to definitively tell you about the Chateau between the wars and during WWII. Check a local nursing home; ask at a church. Finally, ask an archeologist - and fellow chatelaine - Amy at Château de Rosières en Vivarais (The Great Chateau Restoration Project on KZhead)! Her husband, Marc, grew up in his family chateau. I suspect they would have some interesting observations about your property, the lost (?) structures, WWI and WWII, and other fun stuff. There should be regional museums and historical archives around for Lalacelle, FR that would mention your chateau. I do so love your videos and look forward to each one!!!! 💖💖

  • Super cool. This old field archeologist is loving this! I couldn't really see the holes in the iron rings, but I certainly don't think they are too big to be from barrels. There are HUGE wine barrels, much larger than wheels. Cider press? Agreed that it's much too far away to be the chapel. The decorative terra cotta roof tiles should be useable for dating.

    • I agree, some barrels are over 6 feet high when they are on their side. Just saw on another château vlog where Calvados used to be made. So whether it was for fermentation of grapes for wine or apples for cider, this could have been an outbuilding for that. Also, the roof tiles showed signs of a fire, so maybe the outbuilding burned or the rubble was brought to this spot after the outbuilding that was in another spot burned.

      @gloriasmestad3803@gloriasmestad3803 Жыл бұрын

  • I love old history... Perhaps it was a groundskeeper lodge? That one tile looked ... burned... perhaps there was a fire in that building... whatever it was... and maybe it was due to one of the wars... perhaps that took it down? Got a lot more history over there than we do here in the states... Just fascinating... but those tiles look interesting. See now... before when I saw that thing I still think is an arrow slit... If the land was lower... and they raised it ... that still makes sense that it would have been an arrow slit... for defence... right there on the corner it just makes sense... even if it was a big manner house... it still makes perfect sense that they would have had defensive things built in... and there is nothing more perfect than an arrow slit. I still believe that is what that was... I think that was the corner there where it is beyond the pretty room with the lovely wood panel walls... I forget what that room was... but it was a tiny room kinda off that and down under... and that spot just screamed arrow slit to me... someone though it was something else... but if you are saying they raised the land... then it makes 100% sense to me that it was an arrow slit... for defense. You might look into whether there is a metal detecting group around in your area if they would like to detect around see if they find anything cool there... I watch several in England... but don't watch any from France... but then I don't speak French... but it would be interesting to find out more.

  • You should have Stephanie's tree guy, Nick, come by & give you advice about your forest. You have some vines going up trees, possibly dead trees, & growth on the dirt that will steal the water from the trees when it doesn't rain much. Perhaps you could dig up the saplings on the forest floor to make up where that lady chopped so many trees down?

  • Could the building have been a gatehouse? There's too much dressed stone for it not to have been a building, surely. How exciting though, I hope you manage to find out what was in the woods and why the gate is there. Love love love your vlogs : ) x

  • Amazing how much more you all have to discover. Be great to have a Birds Eye view of the current land and buildings and what was original to the land just to gain some perspective as you walk us around the property. Is the old farm that was sold off still a going concern? Any chance of getting a vlog on the land out buildings and how it was originally? As this is going to provide you with years of vlogs as you continue to renovate and develop your property.
