  • As you were clearly so close to your father and he must be responsible in part for your talent at decoration and your lovely joyful personality, it would be a treat for us to see some photos of your father working at the Chateau with you and working on his art work. Best wishes to you Stephanie XX

  • I have to say all the things you have done in your kitchen is the things women have done in old farm houses in America. It’s a huge fad to restore farm houses here, so we can understand your thoughts in converting things at low expense. This Chateau of yours is just beautiful and you have done a great job.

  • I've been binge watching your lovely videos! I would love to see the untouched parts of the chateau , the attics the basement, the dusty hidden areas because to me that is a little part of the history. There is beauty in the imperfections too! 💙

  • Beautiful kitchen. I can’t live in a museum either but with some things Im like your mom. For those like me who didn’t know what coving was: Cove molding performs the same function in the same place on wall as crown molding. The main difference is the profile; cove molding has a concave profile, which bows inward, while crown molding has a convex, flatter appearance that projects out from the wall. Now I know!

  • You have fantastic perspective! I love your attitudes about using things and having them break rather than unused and forgotten and showing life as a Work In Progress, rather than never-at-all. In another video, too, you mentioned, "The house has stood for hundreds of years. It will stand a little longer" and how important it is to have beauty! Many of these attitudes come at a *literal* cost and it's so tempting to resist these truths. I love that you are not shy about expressing these ideals and boldly go after them. Just terrific!

  • Exactly the way to do it, room by room and it is fascinating and you allow us all to follow your journey, large cornicing would be wonderful. What is your ultimate dream for Lalande ? is it still having an auditorium for hosting workshops and performances of Opera ! Love the new cooker it is beautiful, does it operate on Fuel or Electricity for convenience ! How large are the electric bills ! enormous I presume. Stephanie love the Spode, me too and it is on my kitchen dresser and now I shall make a spice rack ! Thankyou for that tip. Lovely to see your kitchen, lovely kitchen full of atmosphere and beautiful things and beautiful people. Another fantastic Vlog . Thankyou x

  • So fun watching you all dance to a Cameo song! Word up! The kitchen is beautiful. I like the fact that everyone sit downs to dine together....similar to how an entire castle gathered for each meal in the great hall regardless of their rank or function. You may have been sitting "below the salt" but you were at least in the room!

  • I bet you slept with socks and mittens and even a toque with 10c temperatures. OMG, I have the same tea towel from Raffles Hotel. I am of the same mindset, Stephanie, that nothing is held for ransom in my home--hidden behind glass or locked within a sideboard. Everything is used and enjoyed and that is what creates memories. I agree, make the coving grand even beyond the realms of opulence. You deserve that. Thanks. Darryl

  • I already thought I recognised your cooker! I work at castle 'De Haar' (in the province of Utrecht, the Netherlands) you mention at 4:03 minutes :D The cooker is quite large and impressive. Have you ever visited this Dutch castle? It is lovely to see you actually still use it :D (They stopped using the cooker at De Haar castle in 1970 and started using a more modern kitchen in a different room. The old kitchen can still be visited)

  • Its always nice to hear you refer to your dad in your vlogs, so it was nice to see him feature in an early photo of your kitchen. Life often doesn't follow the plan we would like, but I'm sure he would be very proud of what you have achieved. As a previous poster remarked, Channel 4 should give you your own show. Life at your place is always interesting, entertaining and often educational.

  • Enjoying these back episodes... a though with regards to the kitchen cabinets, could you not get Michael to paint them with faux pannels as he did in the green bedroom? Or perhaps Selmar could make you a new set of doors that could then be antiqued.

  • Really love the blue and white plate collection. I have collecting vintage plates and cutlery. I have the green version of the blue plates. I really love the way you transformed the kitchen back to a chateau worthy style. So cozy, i can imagine toasty winters in that kitchen. I also love dancing every time I am cooking in my tiny kitchen, I am so glad to find out I am not the only one. hahaha. About living in a museum - you have encouraged me to use my collection more and not worry about whether they will break. Will get friends over more often to use them....Catching up on your videos and I cannot wait for the next ones already. Such a pleasure to watch your journey...

  • How exciting to see your kitchen transformation - sympathetically renovated to date. All most interesting. Love that you've kept the range and the table for posterity especially. I lived in part of the Mitford's family home for 18 years and uncovered some of Nancy's original wall paintings that she had done in the early 1920's - amazing! Also, the temperature there would drop to minus 11 degrees in the winter months, at which point all the old lead pipes would freeze! I thought I was the only one who strapped a warm hot water bottle to myself for survival but clearly you have had the same ingenious idea!

    • I’m blown away that you found some of Nancy’s original wall drawings! How amazing! Do you have any photos?

      @TheChateauDiaries@TheChateauDiaries4 жыл бұрын
    • @@TheChateauDiaries I lived in The Barn part of Asthall Manor from 1978 - 1996. Lord Redesdale had the barn converted from an agricultural barn to the Mitford girls bedrooms upstairs and a ball room and library block downstairs in the 1920's. I had the use of the whole of this space so it was pretty large and hence why it was so cold as the original boiler had broken many years before and had never been repaired. I didn't take any photos of my discovery (didn't do that sort of thing so much then!) I have, however, found a link to a photograph on pinterest of what was Nancy's bedroom and also my bedroom! If you look in the far left hand corner, you will see the painting of 2 men duelling with swords over a lady dressed in a crinoline. There were also 2 delphiniums (on the right hand side - can't see them very well) above the fireplace. There was also supposed to be a picture of a small devil that she painted but I never found that! The paintings had been preserved with newspaper and then covered with wallpaper so had never been seen for decades when I uncovered them - all so exciting - I remember it well! Here are some links and also some history about the house: www.countrylifeimages.co.uk/Image.aspx?id=4718fa60-9741-451b-a8bc-98c73c8076c7&rd=2%7CBurford%7C%7C3%7C20%7C53%7C150 www.google.com/search?q=barn+flat,+asthall+manor&rlz=1C1CHBD_en-GBGB749GB749&sxsrf=ACYBGNSdd-r-Lz2d652J5yb0mgSQKDONUA:1569151570659&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwif4t6PqeTkAhWinVwKHR49DVgQ_AUIEigB&biw=1366&bih=625#imgrc=AqEIQn6Qv37KDM: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asthall_Manor Hope you enjoy!

  • I am commenting on the video about the renovation of the kitchen. On what you are calling a large “Cupboard”. Stephanie, on the Cupboard, ( what we in the States would describe as an armoire or a cabinet, thus very large & very old storage unit. I am curious about the tag with a Hebrew inscription. Now if my sweet Jack had been still alive when I first noticed it, I would have this episode up on my largest screen and it would have said to him, “Jack, please read the Hebrew on the tag hanging from the door of this large cabinet in the kitchen if this fabulous chateau in France.” He would have leaned over and looked carefully at it and he’d have read it out loud and then he’d have put me out of my misery and translated it. But alas he is no longer with us. Jack would have definitely loved watching Chateau Diaries and he’d have said, “Megan, we must make reservations and go to Chateau de Lalande and meet Stephanie.” And I would have agreed. Can you tell me what the Hebrew tag says? Please, Megan
