Even with all of the terrible things we've seen these last few weeks, seeing flowering trees and greenery come back to life in Ukraine just gets me. It would almost be poetic if the war weren't still raging. The trees are flowering here in North America as well. It always brings me hope after the dark days and long nights of winter. I hope the Ukrainian people can hang on and enjoy their beautiful country again.

It almost feels evil to sit here and eat my oatmeal safely in America and go through my daily life while this is happening to so many innocent people. Just as it makes me sick to know that sometimes my food goes bad in my fridge before we can consume it all while there are literally children and people dying enduring disease, starving simply because, no food. It's time we (the rest of the democratic world) threatened to Russia if they don't stop. There has to be a strong message here that starting a war in this age is unacceptable. It won't escalate to nuclear because no one would willingly destroy themselves in the process of launching nuclear warheads. That's why we have nuclear balance in the first place.

People like to think that because the US Military had difficulties in Afghanistan, and to a lesser degree in Iraq, against insurgencies, that it means the US isn’t that effective. But from what we’ve seen of the Russian military so far, it’s obvious the US military would wipe the map with them. Dealing with small scale insurgencies is a very different thing than directly fighting a standing army and it’s very obvious the US military is far better trained, equipped, and led than the Russians are. They don’t even do any kind of basic training! They don’t have NCOs to direct troops and the troops are trained to just do what officers tell them; so if there’s no officer around, no one does anything. The US military teaches all its troops to be smart and make independent decisions when necessary and it has an effective command structure. It reminds me of how Russian pilots fly: they do what GCI operators tell them instead of knowing how to fly and fight on their own. They’re showing how ineffective they are compared to western forces.
Japan attacked the USA, that is why the USA attacked Japan. Russia is only attacking Ukraine. NATO will never start a war against Russia which would mean the total destruction of NATO countries / Russia.

Ukrainians who choose to stay in certain parts of Ukraine may have to become Russian citizens eventually. If I experience something like this, I may have to move to some other Ukrainian city (not controlled by Russia) or another country. Forcing to become a Russian citizen feels like going to prison in my opinion.
