Top US general: What's at stake is greater than Ukraine

2022 ж. 25 Сәу.

General Mark Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, discusses the stakes of the Russia-Ukraine conflict and the wider global implications with CNN's Jim Sciutto.
Why Russia's Ukraine aggression matters to Americans
by Zachary B. Wolf
Nobody knows for sure exactly what Vladimir Putin is doing with around 100,000 Russian troops parked near the Russia-Ukraine border, but it's making the US and Europe extremely nervous.
President Joe Biden said this week he expected the Russians would "move in" and that a slight incursion would be met differently than a full-on invasion.
The US has spent the past few days cleaning up that remark and making clear any type of invasion is unacceptable.
Asked in Geneva by a reporter if he thought, like Biden, that an invasion was likely, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov used some interesting language.
"Unless the United States doesn't go to bed with Ukraine, I don't think so," Lavrov said.
What does it mean for countries to 'go to bed'? All of this high-stakes geopolitical chess, then, comes down to how intimate the US gets with Ukraine in the eyes of Russia.

It was absolutely worthwhile. Having said that I am disappointed that South Korea has not stepped up its support. The country has a lot of weapons Ukraine could use, such as Self propelled howitzers... If Ukraine falls, we will see more aggression not only from Russia but also other countries such as China and North Korea.

It’s definitely not the same. We went into Iraq during the Persian gulf war because Sadaam Hussein invaded Kuwait. 2003 we went in because Sadaam failed to comply with weapons inspectors. • What this General has stated is reckless and dangerous!!! The current "regional conflict" in the Ukraine, does NOT threaten the "whole of Europe".??. *unless the West further* *prevokes Russia, while* *escalating "tensions!"* Prior to the invasion, Putin asked for an "assurance" from U.S. & NATO, that the Ukraine would NOT join the "NATO Alliance" in order to prevent Ukraine from receiving NATO protection & the placement of "Nuclear Missiles" on Russia's doorstep! Putin stated emphatically, he would never tolerate that eventuality under any condition. The build-up of this tense situation between Russia and The Ukraine has been fomenting for year's.. but we are now witnessing the horrible consequence, of a foreign affairs "policy failure" on the part of the West (along with the Ukraine) to broker any "agreement" that could have staved off a "Russian invasion." Sadly, the West/U.S. only "placated" Putin, underestimating his threat to invade. Hence, Putin accused The West of dragging him into endless negotiations, in an attempt to "pacify" him, which prompted him to invade. The Ukraine is *NOT* a part of NATO.. nor are they a part of U.S. "territorial sovereignty" If the General believed Russia was TRULY a threat to the "international security" of our European allies, then why hasn't The U.S. and NATO sent military boots on the ground in Ukrain? So, instead, they've opted to send weapons to arm the Ukraine?? ..which also is "*dangerous*" and may lead to a prolonged conflict, as more people will be injured/die and be displaced, while fleeing to Poland and Slovakia..etc The decision to send military hardware and weapons, is looked upon by Putin as an aggressive action on the part of the West & a declaration of war, hence, the effect is the same! *This will fuel TENSIONS* THAT COULD ESCALATE THE CRISIS...WHILE MORE HEATED RHETORIC BETWEEN RUSSIA AND THE U.S. ALONG W/MORE ABSURD RUSSIAN SANCTIONS WILL ULTIMATELY HURT THE U.S. ECONOMY MORE THAN RUSSIA, AND POTENTIALLY, LEAD TO MORE DIRECT, MILITARY INTERVENTION ON THE PART OF THE WEST.. TRIGGERING AN EXPANSION OF THIS CONFLICT, INVOLVING THE WEST & NATO.. LEADING TO A GLOBAL NUCLEAR WAR! OUR GOVERNMENT HAS ALREADY PROVEN HOW INCOMPETENT AND FOOLISH THEY ARE AFTER THE DISASTROUS AFGHANISTAN WITHDRAWAL & DEBACLE AND CANNOT BE TRUSTED TO MAKE WISE DECISIONS! Putin's warnings, along with Russia's advanced: *"SATAN 2 Hypersonic* *Nuclear Missiles,"* which can evade U.S. defense systems, are credible threats to the West, rapidly moving closer to an Apocalyptic Global conflict w/tragic consequences!

Many people hadn't even _heard_ of Ukraine until two months ago. If Russia loses to Ukraine, they plummet in the "rankings" so to speak, to the status of say, Paraguay or Laos. If that happens, all of Russia will turn on him and he won't survive. He can't afford to lose, so he'll throw literally every single last soldier at Ukraine to "zerg-rush" it no matter the cost. 🤦

Obviously, there are legitimate complaints about US imperialism, but 30 years of relative peace had lulled many countries into questioning their need for us. Now that our rivals (Russia and China) have shown who they really are, the US is looking pretty attractive as a partner again (if you like freedom)

The only thing i could look at that was not burned from my eyes to the horizon in every direction was my ripped shirt and old shorts. I know the feel of your hair curling from heat and the blast of hot air before the flames touch your flesh and wraps its self around your body like a soft scarf being pulled by the wind. I couldn't afford to build my home again but i love going back to my once charcoal covered mountain where my hand built home towered above hidden gorges, to sit and enjoy a new kind of peace that surrounds me. I would like to share my empathy for the millions of families who have lost their homes or been smothered by flames from months of Russia's missiles and bombs. I hope from the suffering one man has caused you, it gives you the strength to create new beginnings. When i look at the list of consulting countries who have come together to try to help end the ruthless outcome of war, it reminds me there is friendship and help in every corner of my beautiful blue planet. • Prayer.. Is the only answer to avert an impending disaster...Though honestly, what this General has stated is reckless and dangerous!!! The current "regional conflict" in the Ukraine, does NOT threaten the "whole of Europe".??. *unless the West further* *prevokes Russia, while* *escalating "tensions!"* Prior to the invasion, Putin asked for an "assurance" from U.S. & NATO, that the Ukraine would *NOT* join the "NATO Alliance" in order to prevent Ukraine from receiving NATO protection & the placement of "Nuclear Missiles" on Russia's doorstep! Putin's warnings, along with Russia's advanced: *"SATAN 2 Hypersonic* *Nuclear Missiles,"* which can evade U.S. defense systems, are credible threats to the West, that is moving closer to an Apocalyptic Global conflict w/tragic consequences

Mark Milley, in the days before January 6, that ordered his staff there be no action regarding nuclear arms without first consulting with him. He then walked around the room and stood before each officer and repeated the order and asked if it's understood. Milley did this in case a politician tried to upset the transfer of power prior to January 6. I bet Russia has military officers that know defending their country means NOT to use nuclear weapons over a war initiated by a dictator for personal glory.
