Michael Clarke, Defence Analyst
Roger Boyes, The Times Diplomatic Editor

I’m still very glad it got done and hope that he will continue to work in a bipartisan way to make some other progress. Too bad repubs voted down, for example, the toughest legislation on the brdr in modern history because the former president told them not to. Check it out. • The USSR and the smaller less competent Russia hasn't been an existential threat to the West for 50 years. They're a larger version of North Korea. That doesn't mean they're not a significant threat. They can still cause havoc. EU countries, Germany at the head, have been criminally negligent of maintaining their military capacity during that period.

  • Discovered you can fly a light aircraft remotely? People have been doing such things for decades. In fact, the British were doing this as early as 1941. These were target drones. The switch from target drones to offensive weapons is actually quite trivial. So, this is not something new the Ukrainians are doing. They are having to innovate because of restrictions on using western supplied equipment in attacking Russian territory. In addition, the use of drones as one way delivery systems is not something the US typically has done. The US has provided some "suicide" drones, but these are typically short range. The US would typically use something like a cruise missile. These are much harder to defend against, since they do not rely on a data link to an operator. On the other hand, it seems like this is not an issue against Russia.
