Rare 1954 Traveloader Restoration- Nylint (Adams)

I bought this antique (1954?) Nylint #1800 Traveloader along with several other toys from a yard sale for $30, and I thought it would make a neat restoration video. This seems to be a kind of rare toy. There were 3 different models made, and this one appears to be the 2nd version.
As you could see in the video, it was very rusted and pitted. After dismantling, sandblasting, and cleaning up the parts, I used JB Weld for a filler because it can withstand high heat for the powder coating process. After removing the gear cover, I found that one of the spindles was broken, and the parts were in disarray, and also one gear was missing some teeth. I was able to get a new gear made at a local machine shop. One of the problems I ran into was finding tubular rivets long enough to rebuild the metal conveyor. I ended up making some out of some 1/8” steel rods and then bluing them for a black finish and a rust protector. The two piece rim was put back together using a 5/16” brake line to clinch them together plus it had a hole for the axle to slide through. The new rubber conveyor was purchased on eBay along with the decals. I was able to find a new rear pulley online as well.
I hope you enjoyed this restoration video and if you have any questions, feel free to leave them in the comment section. (I do try to read comments)
Have a blessed day,
Kev.

    • I was trying to figure out what that was but I'm glad you made the road work sign now I know that it's an older road stripper but with tires not like today's machines they use tracks nice restoration, you should do a older rig with a dump trailer & back it up to this it would look cool 😎

  • Awesome restoration. This thing is closer to a miniature of the actual machine than a toy. Toys like this helped kids understand how.machines actually worked. You'll never see something like this made again. It probably needs to be in a museum to remind everbody you can have a toy that isn't just blow molded plastic.

    • It is definitely a neat toy. It is crazy how much of the toys today are made of cheap plastic. It is disappointing. I see what you are saying about the museum however, I plan to let kids play with this. It will be a fun one 👍 thanks for the comment! Have a great week!

  • First: what marvelously complex mechanisms were found in these vintage metal toys! Decades of rationalized design, optimized for ease and economy of manufacture, makes it startling how simplified modern toy vehicles are in comparison. Second: that's a lot of rivet removal and reinstallation, straightening of metal and filling in of corrosion! The amount of patience and work and talent you pour into these restorations is remarkable And I can only imagine how much additional effort was required to so beautifully record each step - with all the positioning, lighting and camera work. With so many fake "restoration" videos on KZhead, quality content like yours really stands out. Thank you for sharing with us your passion and talent!

  • Your patience and skills to restore this Ny-Lint are extraordinary. Good call on powder coating the pitted metal parts. They came out great with the JB Weld bondo work. There is so much detail in this piece. Can you imagine the time it must have taken to form, bend, paint, and assemble this? I wonder what this toy cost back in 1954?

It was so easy to work on! We kept it alive & running into the early 2000s. Most of the parts were obsolete by then. We gave it a Viking send-off... 😂

  • What an amazing job!! I got one of these for Christmas in 1956 and completely wore it out! I was 4 years old. I got into restoring old farm and construction toys about 20 years ago and have restored 2 of those travel loaders but could never find where to find a belt. Where did you find it? I bought a travel loader on a estate auction in mint condition and it still has the original price tag on it for 9.98 😱. Really enjoy your video and you do awesome work!!! God bless and hope to see more 🙏👍

    • Very cool! Interesting on the original price. Thank you! I found the belt on eBay for around $30 plus shipping I believe. I appreciate the feed back and comment. Have a blessed day!
