1957 Tonka Gambles Convenience Store Semi Truck Grocery Store Rare Private Label Restoration Restore

I purchased this 1957 Tonka Gambles Convenience Store Semi Truck on eBay March 2023 for $172.00. It was in perfect shape for a restoration, in rough condition and mostly complete. The body was really rusty, especially on one side. The interior had been a home for spiders for some time, which probably live in my basement now. As this truck was stored there until this video was started. Originally I thought it was should have been a tandem rear wheel, however after making the tandem axle plate and additional hub caps, I found out it was originally only a single rear wheel trailer assembly. I decided to leave it a tandem even though I know it was incorrect. Out of everything I made for this restoration I enjoyed making the mud flaps the most. This was my first time engraving rubber on the CO2 laser. I really love stamping my own hub caps as well, using the die I made in a previous video. I'm not 100% happy with the decals and honestly am looking for a great decal printer / cutter to buy. If anyone has any suggestions I would love to hear what they are. Thank you everyone for watching and all the support!!
If all goes well I'll be back on track to get more videos out this year. I was in a vehicle accident around Christmas which slowed me down for quite awhile. I'm finally getting some things done for the channel and look forward to getting the next videos out. Thank you all for your patience and support.

  • This exact version of the Tonka Gambles Semitruck is not supposed to have double axled trailer. It is clear to see as the trailer ground clearance is too high and the rearmost axle is protruding the rear of the trailer. Also the mudflaps are not supposed to slide on the rear wheels. This Gambles Semitruck does however exists in both single and double axle trailer versions. But you have accidently modified the single axle version. That said, it is an impressive and beautiful restoration job you have done as usual 🤩

    • I was coming to say this too. There is a real life trailer like this up the road from me. Only one axle on that trailer. If you swap it back to one axle, I bet those mud flaps will fit perfectly and not run the tires. Love your channel and so glad to see this new video.

Your attention to details and using the same original colors, as well as all the new machines you get and use is what keeps me subscribed and coming back to watch. I am glad you are on the mend and hope nothing like that happens again. As far as a decal printer goes there are several on the market now adays that will do what you want. Just depends on how much you want to spend and the type of materials they print on...i.e clear decals, vinyl decals, colored background and all the different fonts they can handle. Good luck and look forward to you next video!
