He chose an old veteran neighbor of ours some four blocks away as His Person, kept getting out and heading straight to his house, so he ultimately went to live with him permanently, lived out his days there. Opinionated little buggers - they only like certain humans, and they do what they want!

  • It's pronounced "SKEHperkeh", or "SKEHperkin" in Flemish. My uncle, a Flemish farmer, had one. The dog would go fetch him at the local tavern when it was time to come home, and he got a little dish of beer on the bar as his reward. "kin" or "keh" at the end of a name is a term of endearment meaning "little", like "ito" in Spanish. For example, my older family members called me "PAULehkin" or PAULehkeh" growing up.

  • Gorgeous pup, not bad for a first groom. I have never in my Dutch life heard this breed refered to as 'shi-burger' , Dutch say SKIH-pur-keh and my American friends say SKIP-er-key. Curious where this guidance of shi-burger comes from! Nah, who cares - puppy is cute no matter what he's called :)

  • My Rottweiler let's me cut his nails... But only if I bribe him with his dinner... I cut one nail, you get dinner. You don't let me cut your nails, no dinner. I tried medication, it made him cranky, drowsy, but cranky. Ever try to cut a cranky Rottweiler's nails? Not happening! The vet tried, didn't happen without total sedation. Sedation is not worth risking his life, just for shorter nails. So the dinner trick works for us. Besides, at 140 pounds (10 stone), he can afford to skip a meal or two out of stubbornness. 💖🌞🌵😷

When we first met them we called them Pomeranians and thankfully the owners told us a few times how to say it (at least the North American way 😂 if they said it the actual way I would not have been able to google it) They definitely have JUST as much attitude as this little guy tho!

    • but dutch isn't exactly flemish...

      @blackberrythorns@blackberrythornsАй бұрын
    • While that is somewhat true the two languages have only recently started separating and most flemish people stil say they speak dutch the biggest differences are how the g is pronounced and many sayings are different however an old word like schipperke most definitely has its origins in dutch though i will admit it is also part of the freisian language so i wouldn't know which one was first

      @pickelswithanxiety758@pickelswithanxiety758Ай бұрын
    • @@pickelswithanxiety758 the thing is that english doesn't roll r's and it doesn't use the back of the throat like g or ch do in dutch/flemish so it's never going to come out right in english.
