Thankyou Vanessa. I will buy his book. A similar case in Australia with a disabled wheelchair bound gentleman in Sydney had his beloved dog stolen. 6 months later he turned up in my tiny country towns pound. So glad to see Oliver back with his dad. They have a beautiful bond.

My yorkie wandered out through a door that wasnt properly shut....after hours of walking around the neighborhood, asking everyone i met, in the rain in december, i was starting to sob and panic. On my way back home i passed two rough looking dudes fixing a moped, who i had asked earlier. One called out to me asking the color of my dog. He said he had just been to someones house in the area whose kid had brought home a "new puppy"... my dog! He took off on the moped and 15 minutes later he was back at my house, in the rain, my dog under his arm on the moped. That kid stole my dog and his dad apparently thought it was ok to just keep him (he had tags and was chipped). I would have never found him if not for my kind neighbor.

@@nillyk5671 I'm sure he just told the kid it was someone else's dog and he couldn't keep it, then took it. The kids dad probably didn't care, since the kid just came home with the dog. It wasn't the dad who stole it. I live in an area with a lot of Latino immigrants who have very different cultural ideas about dog ownership and I got the impression it was one of those families who had him. Since for them street dogs are very normal, they likely didn't even know they were taking someone's pet or where to take it or anything.
shorkies are unfortunately very popular with dog thieves, because they're so cute they fetch a high price both for buying and breeding. our shorkie was *TWENTY-FOUR* years old when he was dognapped from our backyard while we were getting groceries. he was blind, deaf, toothless, incontinent and neutered but he didn't look his age at first glance. while i was searching for him i was also told of some "rescues" in the area that considered it abusive to let dogs out into a fenced-in yard unsupervised so either someone stole him to resell him (or breed him but good luck with that) or they "rescued" him from the horror of having the freedom to totter around a huge backyard. we never did get him back and at this point he's almost certainly deceased. it's a shame he wasn't able to spend his final days with the family he'd known all his life.
I am sorry for your loss, I mean, the double loss, not being there for his last days on earth. I like to believe he is in dog heaven.

Some "rescues" will also swipe LGDs and working breeds, then make up stories of abuse for more donations.

Checking the comments before I watch to make sure he got home or I wouldn't be able to function for the rest of the day. My dog is everything to me, and him being dognapped is my biggest nightmare. ETA: To the ones saying 'he's in the video, idiot, so obviously he's fine': 1) It could have been a video about a dog she had filmed grooming but not yet published who later was dognapped and the owner was searching for him and she was helping him put the word out. I barely scanned the title before I checked the comments just to be sure. 2) We all have different thresholds for what we can handle, and this one is hard for me. There's no shame in that. If you didn't react the same way, that's fine. I reacted this way, that is also fine. (And yes, I bought the book on Kindle. It sounds like a good book. I'm all for ads for good books.)

One of the most heartless, callous comments that can be said by those who completely lack empathy is, "It's just a dog" or "It's just a cat." For those of us who have had or have soulmate companion animals and love them dearly, the bond is the same or greater than with humans. I am so glad Oliver and Steven were reunited. It's every pet owner's nightmare to have their furbaby be stolen or go missing. Thank you Vanessa for featuring this good man and his good boy.

My fur baby Boo boo passed on 3-26-24 I'm heartbroken. Yes someone said to me it's just a dog, I will pray for them as their heart is also broken in a bad way.

Dognapping should be treated like kidnapping. It's horrific. Jail time should be mandatory.

Oliver is so, so cute! I can’t imagine having a dog stolen from me - literally, only suicidal idiots would try - but my worst nightmare is one of them getting lost by accident. So glad he is safe with his family.
I take my little Border Collie with me and never leave her in the car alone. My Dane mix is another story, like yours, someone would be badly injured if they tried to mess with him.

@@randilund2558, thank you. Before him I had Vlad, a Caucasian Ovcharka, and that was really a challenge. Ursu, the Alabai, is much more calm and do not try to kill strangers on sight but not calm to the point of let himself be taken away. Also, he weighs 88 kilograms… 🤣🤣🤣
Material things are replaceable but a pet missing or taken is heart breaking !!!!!!!
You’re so right!! Living creatures with a “pulse” cannot be replaced. When I lost Oliver, all my material possessions immediately meant nothing. I was very fortunate. 🐾❤🐾
I met this man during his search at my local shelter as I was getting my cat back when she got away..thank goodness for chips! Glad Oliver is back!

I live in Nova Scotia and there is a notorious dognapper named Gail Benoit that has been in and out of jail for years because of stealing dogs and cats and trying to sell them after they became really ill. She's not allowed near any companion animals anymore, but that doesn't stop her daughter working on her behalf. I will *never* leave my dogs unattended outside because of her. (Note how I did not say allegedly, because her crimes have been proven in a court of law in which she was duly sentenced) It really is a common practice around here for people to steal and re-sell dogs. It was such a problem that you can't adopt out dogs without a vet's certification that a: the dog is healthy and b: the dog is really your rescue org's (or yours in the case of oopsie puppies).
He's adorable, and his dad seems like a lovely man. I'm so glad they were reunited.

What a sweet, yet sassy angel! I am so happy they were reunited. My partner and I had to make the difficult decision to put down our beloved cat last Thursday. He was 12 years old and in that time had developed intestinal cancer that wasn't discovered until it was already far too late. Seeing Stephen and Oliver's love reminded me just how much I love I have for my cats and how much I miss him.
We love our pets deeply. They bring us tremendous joy and WISDOM 🐾❤🐾

My Yorkie only lets me wash her face after she sniffs the bath water and gets praise. Clipping her nails on the other hand…only allowed one at a time on her front paws or she gets nippy

Well, I've now discovered a dog who's much more handsome than a Yorkie or a Shih Tzu! Oliver is the first Shorkie I've seen, and he's pretty darned adorable. I am so glad Oliver and Steven were reunited. It's obvious that they love each other so very much!

If someone tried to steal my dogs, they wouldn't be able to get past the gate, cuz I go outside with them every single time. My folks think I'm overprotective or whatever but making sure they don't get stolen, or escape, or get hurt in anyway are EXCELLENT reasons to supervise my dogs while in the yard. Nobody takin' my babies.
Yup, I've only once left my dog in the car alone, I was running in to grab a coffee that I ordered on the app, I left the door locked the window cracked (even though it was cool) and I watched him like a hawk. Decided after that drive thru is better for my anxiety, even though he was fine.
So happy he made it home again poor baby. It’s heartbreaking to lose a pet under normal circumstances but to have it stolen is unbelievable.
Oh man, for a minute I thought this was about Cosmo (he was returned safely as well, through the help of strangers on sm). Oliver is so cute! And the way he was climbing Stephen at the end ❤

My best friend got her dog stolen, she got her dog back within 6 days. Her story is crazy how she found her dog. Her dog was taken 2 and half hours away. Prayers got her dog back.

I had a dog who was stolen and one who was lost. It was huge suffering for me as an owner. I lived with the hope they were ok and found good owners.

I just got the book! I’m only on chapter four, but I just had to put it down and watch this video again. My mom who passed away, I know led me to adopt my little Luna. She was an angel in the sky next to a cloud that looked just like my Lunabean I was soon to meet. 🙏🏼💗 I can’t wait to read more of the book of Oliver.

what a truly uplifting story! when Oliver was picked up after grooming, that reunion scene brought tears to my eyes...
One of my favorite scenes from Judge Judy was of a stolen little dog who's owner was suing to get him back from the scumbag thieves. Doggy was brought into the courtroom by the theif who SERIOUSLY denied stealing him. Judy said put him down madam! Twice. The little dog ran immediately to the dad & jumped wanted to be picked up tail wagging furiously. Best thing EVER to see. I'm so glad for Oliver & his dad. ❤❤❤❤ Yes, Judge Judy has family photos in her chambers including her own little dogs. 😊
I remember that one and it was absolutely scummy the owners had to pay vet bills (or some kind of bill) to the thief.

There are times where I have to leave my little 8 pound. Chihuahu mix by himself for about 2 or 3 minutes to use the bathroom and this is my greatest fear. Thankfully, I always find people who are watching them or playing with him. And before you ask why I don't take him with its like trying to use the bathroom with a toddler, they can and will try to get into the next stall underneath and cause mischief.
I couldn't imagine.... I'd be terrified. Glad Oliver found his way home. ❤
