    • 😲 Sounds awesome!!! Dear Vanessa, I'd love it if you did a nail clipping video in close up for all different sized dogs and different nail types. It's the one thing I really struggle with now, always having had giant breeds till my latest tiny rescue. Many Thanks for all the work you put in to educate us all 💖 💐

    • Thank you for posting this one. I have a Shichon that I have had to groom at home, due to a spinal injury. He is good, but grooming is very hard on him as he doesn't stand for long periods of time. I let him let on a towel on my bed and we just take our time. His ears and face are a bit of a struggle. I had to use the clippers, because he wiggles too much for scissors. This was a great visual to add onto that.

  • Wow, that was a very in-depth video! It made me realize you have to think A LOT while grooming (pull the skin here, push the ear there). You really cannot go into autopilot mode when you're grooming any animal, especially if they're not as cooperative as sweet Portia here! I would love to see a video on the blades you use and have a bit more information on them (what is a 10 blade, what do you use it for). I have no plan to groom animals, but I find the specifics very interesting! Thanks Vanessa!

    @Orthophobia@Orthophobia11 ай бұрын
    • To answer your blade question, a 10 blade is the shortest blade length that an animal can be fully shaved in (aside from what vets can do, I don’t know enough about that). It’s basically down to the skin and is considered the safest blade for sensitive areas. Sanitary trims, armpits and paw pad shaving are done in a 10 because it’s the safest with the least chance of catching the skin between the teeth though there’s always a risk involved. Sometimes paw pads can be done in a 30 which is even shorter. Dogs that are extremely matted on their body are usually done in a 10 as well because of how tight the mats are to the skin. Grooming is very complicated and honestly very stressful because there is always a chance of injury even with the most calm dog.

  • As a business owner and hard worker, I'm glad to hear you have a Fluff-Off Karen bandana. Portia looks more like a Lhasa than a Shih-Tzu. My wife had three Lhasa's over time and shaved them all, never knew if we got the same dog back from those terrible "groomers". Ha ha.

    • Nahh, 100% looks like a Shih-Tzu! I've had a few pure breds over the years and they have an unmistakable look, Even though they share genes with the Lhasa and Pekinese (it's where they came from originally). Soon as I saw her she reminded me my susie.. Became a very old lady herself passed away at 17 😥

  • Omg she is SO cute and sweet, I'm so glad her parents brought her to a calm patient caring groomer like you instead of someone who would maybe take advantage of how good she is naturally and rush around with her and possibly hurt or scare her. Well done as always Vanessa 💜💜💜

  • I'm fighting back tears watching this utterly sweet & gentle little lady...What an emotional reminder of my own little, beloved, black Shih Tzu, named "Dolly"...She was a very tiny rescue puppy when she joined our family many, many years ago...She used to get up on the kitchen table, to lie down with our cats, & watch the birds, squirrels & deer out of the big picture window overlooking a large wooded property...Isn't it amazing how we still never forget our furry & feathered "family" even after they've been gone for many years...❤ BTW, your channel brings me so much pure happiness, & Vanessa, you're a real gem, just like Miss Portia...😊

  • Well, dang. I've watched a lot of your vids, admittedly not all... but this is the first one where I've heard you describe so many little things which must be taken into consideration when shaving... the ear flaps, that "space" in the back leg, the protruding spine... VERY interesting!! Don't own a dog, but if I did... well. After this, I'd definitely leave any grooming other than brushing to a pro! I'd feel horrible if I hurt it. Ermahgurd, she's such a cute li'l trembly gurrrrl.
