    • Gilbert is a stylistic nightmare for him, as he’s very good at wrestling and actually presents a submission threat unlike his last 2 opponents as a 2 time world champion in BJJ. But of course, that’s not his only problem to look at in him as his striking has always been very good. Burns by sub and Masvidal leaves.

    • Give Jorge Till and Nate again, we will again see a "resurrection". It is not a coincidence that he started losing as the competition got harder. Jorge is who he is, a level below the championship level, no amount of rebranding will change that.

He was a crowd favorite mid carder for a majority of his career....yeah he would challenge for the Strikeforce belt at one point but he was still destined for mid card for life. Fans like me always hoping he got a chance Then our time came almost came in 2017 when he fought Damein Maia in a title eliminator...then another 2 years he walks aways for a year and a half and KOs Till and then out of no where his time for Super Stardom came in 5 seconds. @OhKee12@OhKee12 Жыл бұрын
    • @@OhKee12 There is an interesting bit of social commentary in this. If you don't make 100k a year you're a bum, if you're not in peak physical condition year round then you're seen as unimpressive, if you don't have multiple degrees and 150 IQ then you're unintelligent, and so on. Most people will fall within the middle of any bell curve. Yet, the "social media" era has us all hyperfocused on the upper echelon in all categories. As a consequence the average or above average people are often undervalued.

  • There was never a rise to begin with. He won 3 fights vs an old, mid tier Nate Diaz, an eventual roster cut in Ben Askren and having notched his only real impressive win in Darren Till (who was looking good at the time) isn’t really a rise worth noting. He was never championship caliber and Kamaru Usman showed us exactly why on separate occasions. This isn’t an attack on him either, I’m just pointing out why I believe he’s overrated.

You may want to watch the 5th round of Nate v Leon Edwards bc he nearly slept Leon and that was after 4 hard rounds. Leon is the champ and Nate went the distance with him...but you think Nate had zero chance of beating Masvidal after 3 rounds and a doctor stoppage? 3 rounds is only 60% of the fight and Nate looked very ready to continue against Jorge so I don't think there was a definitive winner at all.

  • Masvidal used to be one of my favorite fighters. He hated trashtalk and came out to starch fools. I've liked him since he broke Jake Ellenburger and I called the Cowboy fight over my friend who had been a longer MMA fan than me at the time. It felt good to be right, but I loved that fight. I hate to say it, but Ben Askren ruined his career. Before you say it, yes I'm aware that he launched into superstardom and made HUGE bank. However, I meant it ruined his career in terms of mentality, being honest with himself and his skills, and worse he started to trashtalk more than anyone else. He became the very thing he hated. Now, he's becoming what his critics and rivals call him. A loud mouthed, delusional journeyman. Gilbert and RDA are the real "BMFs".

  • Jorge has made some mistakes. And he admits it, in his own round-about way. He's working hard to get things back on track. I'd preffer he not attack people randomly in public again - but aside from that - I'm a fan. There is something fascinating about a backyard brawler from the flip phone era who legit became one of the best fighters in the UFC. You'd expect someone like that to have some flaws. I'm a fan.

  • if he would have had some humble pie after the lucky knee, he could have gotten the strap at some point. His dumb ego got to him quickly and left him on a losing streak and lastly retiring after saturday. Kind of sad actually.

  • I wouldn't view losing to the champ and the nr.1 contender as being "tragic". I would have loved to see hime become UFC champion, as I think he has earned it in every single way. For me he is a champion, and there is nothing anyone can say to change that. I shed a tear this weekend, not because he lost, but because he steps away from something he dearly loved and because I will never see him compete again. Will rewatch most of his fights though. always learned a lot from watching him and was able to use some of it during my own training and competition. Happy retirement to him.

  • He’s not the hungry Masvidal anymore that everybody grew up watching, he honestly made it… got out of the hood, provided money and food for his kids lived in a mansion, got sponsored and had his few years of fame. It ain’t the same no more he lacks goals and direction just like Conor.

  • Idk if it’s really a downfall tbh, up until 2019 he was pretty much always a mid card fighter. Expectations just went crazy for him after he killed Askren in like 3 seconds. Probably could make a case for the classic game cover curse tho as he’s 1-4 since UFC 4 released lol. Also seems fair to point out him being nearly 40, he’s far past his prime, so a string of losses before his eventual retirement is sadly the norm for most.
