    • King Richard isn't the life story of Richard Williams, it's about a very specific time frame in which he and Oracene gave Venus and Serena the foundation to become who they are. That's why it starts and ends where it does. People that gripe that the movie is about him and not about them, but it really isn't. There's a lot of stuff that was left out but that's true of any biopic and especially true of any biopic that's about a specific event or time. I don't think anyone comes away from that movie thinking that he's a saint but it tells the story it's trying to tell really well and the acting is great in it -- which is what is being judged by the awards shows.

    • I wasn't wildly impressed with the films this past year, but I thought Drive My Car was the best of the nominees, easily better than the ones most in the running to win Best Picture, Power of the Dog and CODA (not that they were bad). This was a strong year for non-English language films. I wish The Worst Person in the World also got a Best Picture nomination.

  • I have thoughts: - I’m upset that Maggie Gyllenhaal and Denis Villeneuve weren’t included for Best Director - I’m rooting for Jane Campion to win. - Marlee Matlin should’ve been nominated for Best Actress. - I’m so happy to see a Bhutanese film nominated for Best Picture Category (International) - ‘Drive My Car’ is a Japanese Film nominated for both Best Picture and Best Picture (International) - ‘Flee’ is nominated in several categories - I’m sad to see no technical nominations for ‘Spencer’ - Lady Gaga should’ve been nominated because not liking her is a character flaw. - The Academy should make space for more than 5 nominees. - I’m excited to see what happens.
