    • If you count a legendary Korean actress and Chinese filmmaker to be part of Hollywood, then yeah. The fact is that it's not. People are so foolish to think that it's always the biggest star when Greta Garbo, Sylvester Stallone and The Rock can't even win an Oscar.

    • ​@@antiochus87 i actually have been paying attention, and while it does seem like oscar bait movies tend to get nominated, some really exciting, bold independent movies got nominated this year that i wouldn't call oscar bait. and if it wasn't these movies, then what were the best films of the year? there's a reason why this is the oscars and not the audience choice awards or whatever. while audiences tend to like action flicks, they tend not to have any substance, character depth, clever writing, etc. viewership and box office numbers don't equate to good filmmaking.

  • The Father is necessary. Every person that has a living parent MUST watch it. I'm really happy Hopkins got the Oscars for that. Well deserved.

    • Beethoven went into severe depression when he lost his hearing. It was a nightmare for him and we're lucky that he continued working despite it.

    • @@TFFgeek Pretty much all of his major works came after he noticed he was losing his hearing. The process was slow and gradual, but by the time he wrote the 9th Symphony his hearing was pretty much gone.

    • It’s okay. If you’re a stoic, it won’t be so bad. In fact, i have a grandmother who is like this, and it almost made me sympathise with the people who actually told the old man to just... move on, you know? Like, at some point, that’s fair. No matter how lonely or confused or powerless you feel. Anyway... you should watch the trailer it’s so good. And then see the movie

    • There was an episode of @midnight with Paul F Tompkins, Greg Proops, and John Hodgeman where, in one of the games, they narrated old timey photos with that 1930s newsreel voice. It’s one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen.

    • Prepare yourself. Next year is the year of blockbusters. Hollywood will release all the big movies when the theaters reopen so there will be a lot of them in the 2022 oscars.

    • Not really. Minari's actually a really sweet, funny and hopeful film about family. Nomadland's about finding contentment in what you have, Trial's easily the most awards bait and inspiring out of the nominees and Sound of Metal... sure, it's about someone going deaf, but it's more about finding peace in your situation and accepting change. Promising Young Woman's a bit depressing, but in the middle, it plays out like a romantic comedy.

  • Sound of Metal was one of the best movies I've EVER seen. The acting: incredible. The sound edits: superb. The storyline: heartwrenching. And yes lots of angry moments but why wouldn't there be? Riz did an amazing job. He and the movie both deserve the Oscar hands down. 🙌🏼
