I haven't SEEN Lion King 2.0, but would it be possible just to re-cut the old Honest Trailer with the new footage? It would be hilarious if that was the Honest Trailer for the new one with a bit at the end of "and if this all sound's familiar, that because we just rehashed the old trailer. hey if Disney can be lazy, so can we."
Lol they already did that with the Beauty and the Beast remake 😅 It would be cool if they did it again with The Lion King remake 😂😂
The Dark Phoenix Honest Trailer is gonna be tight!
But will it rise again? I am sure they will have a lot to say about it.
OOOH, "Dead franchise, but will it rise again?" I get it now, thank you! I was mentally listing dead franchises and lost count. Dark Phoenix makes total sense.
Dave Lyon Same! The X Men franchise is so disappointing and dead, even with this super obvious clue, Dark Phoenix didn’t even come to mind lol I’ve blocked it out
I thought he was talking about chucky
@@Dave_L913 Actually, (On Disney reviving dead franchises.) it will be super easy, barely an inconvenience.
I'm all here for Medieval Honest wandering storytellers trailers
Would like to see the epic voice guy on these commentaries
Me too. But he lives very far away from that studio.
@@Spyweb88 A few weeks ago, he was on a reaction video with Greg Alba watching the Godzilla HT, and he was hilarious. He said that he hardly ever sees the finished product.
@@jermhoosierfan kzhead.info/sun/o9Ntj8Z6hqiQmKM/bejne.html
Jeremy Pinnell pretty sure he lives in LA now
PREACH
Dan pantomiming The Producers is why I watch this show.
More Dan doing ALF or lines modulated for Broadway.
Or GWILDOR!
On the movie, Jafar was the biggest miss in the remake while before the movie everyone thought Will Smith would be (and it turned out his role was quite solid!) In general, love Dan's muted "did not care for it." in reference to Dumbo.
I haven't actually seen this yet (I haven't been bothered, but I will) but that was the feeling I got from the trailer. They really needed someone like Jeremy Irons, or Charles Dance, someone who can really ham it up but be terrifying at the same time. This guy just seemed like nothing...
@@dodgyb2001 the common response is that you were supposed to look at the Instagram stuff of him with his shirt off, ie. "Hot Jafar". But he was quite covered up in the movie so he didn't even have that going for him.
@@oneopinion6806 LOL Really? Who wants a hot Jafar? He's supposed to be repellent... Not that JI or CD aren't good looking, but you're not supposed to think Jasmine would ever fancy Jafar...
There was a menacing quality to the animated Jafar that was sorely lacking in the remake.
28:22 for Dan's awesomely succinct review of Dumbo
The credit sequenxe to Fresh Prince was a legit prologue. There's an episode where Will went back to Philly and the guy who was spinning him around in the credits is still mad at him.
Damn, now I actually wanna see a movie called Midge Got Whipped in the Bitsies.
Loved Dan's impersonation of Joe describing the first 30 minutes of the movie. Literally made me Laugh out loud in my office forcing me to deal with visiting coworkers.
Joe really does have “let me speak to your manager” hair
Joe's hair is glorious.
How did you guys not go with “Awk! Kill me! I shouldn’t be alive!” That was hilarious!
I will donate to Women in Film again to see a One Man performance of The Producers with Dan
Honest Trailer Commentaries: The only show where we honestly commentate on our honest commentaries of films.
Honestly
I maintain that Guy Ritchie only seems like an odd choice for this Disney live-action remake until you consider... This film is a series of heists and cons run by quippy fast-talking liars!
ci0ci0san plus, he’s got kids, he was very keen to make sure it’d be fun and appropriate for them, he is good with doing unique action (look at the action scenes in Man From Uncle as an example. and Aladdin requires nothing but unique/odd action), he’s very good with stylized aesthetics, wittiness, etc-Plus the stuff you said. i think he was a great choice in the end. but it could just be because i’m a massive guy ritchie fan & a massive fan of the original Aladdin.
loving these commentaries should have started watching them sooner
Treat yourself and go find the commentary they did for Tommy Wiseau's The Room. IT sounds like that movie mentally broke Joe for a bit.
@@jbearclowater sounds like a good time! thanks for the suggestion!
Wandering storytellers (Hakawati حكواتي) in Syria/Levant were the only form of entertainment for several hundred years. A few of them still exist today. They mostly told stuff from the 1001 nights but also folk tales that usually involved a hero or a morality story
This is a great group!
But wasn't the 1992 movie a story that was being told by the merchant in the beginning of the movie?
Chris Hess, J.D. Yes! And the merchant is played by Robin Williams. I’m a bit sad that the SJU crew didn’t connect that dot.
I liked this movie a lot more than I thought I was going to.
To anybody at SJU... there needs to a supercut of Dan's celeb impersonations, it's too good to past up😂😂😂
But I love The Nathan Lane/Matthew Broderick Producers film and all of its zany, over-the-top acting!!
i think they're even saying they did too, and i agree, it was great, but apply that logic to a normal movie, or all normal movies, that doesnt play well on screen unless you're parodying it, which the producers was
Zevo you’re absolutely right. The Producers was a comedy and Nathan Lane/Matthew Broderick/the filmmakers knew that. But if this was like a straight drama, their acting would just raise eyebrows
@@ChrisFlahurrTee i kinda want to imagine a world where we dont know any better now though, and thats the only kind of acting we get
You guys should show where the hidden Alan was during the commentaries for people like me who can never find them.
during that parcour montage you could have included a bit from the old sega megadrive game where aladdin swings on the poles to get up the building, its an impossibly hard game!
It was interesting how Aladdin and Jasmine realize what they really want, also with the responsibility and fun of power. But alittle scattered with the progression. Another interesting and entertaining commentary and reaction. Keep it up!
I have now accepted this channel will never make a Starship Troopers Honest Trailer and therefore the bugs have won.
Where is Allen raptor?!
7:42, right center of screen, between two of the projected images of the Genie
Dave Lyon Wow, I love you
@@Dave_L913 you are GOOD
Love the Producers rant!
and yeah I heard that new Jasmine song on the radio and thought it was from the second Frozen movie
I've never seen Dan move as much than when talking about The Producers. Ever.
I love The Producers’ awful cinematic adaptation to pieces and Dan killed me, he is so on point lol he’s hilarious
I tried watching Aladdin a week ago on an 11 hour flight and had to turn it off. It was HORRENDOUS.
I really hope you guys never stop putting Alan in every trailer, it is my favourite running gag every time I watch the trailer
I'm with Dan on this one though even more positive. I thought it was a ton of fun and the positives of the film far outweighed the negative for me.
It did outweigh, but man was it awkward at place
@@HUNKragor The whole movie? Because if I thought anything was awkward it would be the way they worked in Jasmine's number.
@@spenserwalker4361 no not the whole, there were bits I quite enjoyed. But at other times it felt forced, like the chase scene at the beginning, just strolling along, no sense of danger or urgency. Weird. And that wasn't the only time
11:52 somebody gif that and screen in a split screen with yesterday's confused Dan
Will Smith being a sailor telling his kids a story is a rewrite. The original Genie was a street vendor
the genie only has phenomenal cosmic power, how could he know things?
Are you sure you're not a chill dude if you walk around with a cobra staff? I mean, snakes are pretty chill (blooded).
Dark Phoenix next week? Can't wait! It was such an awful movie i'm sure the Honest Trailer will make me laugh esp if there's a montage of constipated expressions and jazz hands
Can Dan please perform more scenes from The Producers, please????
Dan's physical comedy has really shined the past few videos
"Parrots just don't understand." That just may be your finest joke ever. Evah!
Always Great; Just asking but is that the most animated Dan has ever been? Also the biggest smile I've seen on his face in a while if not ever...
Spencer bringing back the Collateral Beauty rap makes me long for more Flickbait
Why didn't you guys ever critique the fact that the Genie never grants Aladdin's first wish in either the new or old versions? He wishes to become a prince, but he doesn't become one. All he gets is a wardrobe change, the genie acting as an attendant, and has some people to show off in an impromptu song and dance that are never seen again. A prince that does not make. If the Genie granted his wish, he wouldn't be "lying" to Jasmine by keeping up his story.
I love The Producers because it's so over the top😂😂
I can imagine Joe vomiting under the seat watching this movie and wrote the honest trailer in heart spasms. Feel you bro!
Dan is magic
DJ Jazzy Jaf should’ve made it in 😂😂
My biggest problem with Aladdin (2019) was the horrible decision to insert a (perfectly nice) song into the climax of the movie, which killed all the pacing. There were a lot of other clunky missteps here and there, but that moment just ground everything to a halt for me.
I feel bad penning another comment Spencer will resent, but it isn't often the Producers comes up and I love how much Dan loves it... although I believe he mixed up Bialystock and Bloom, unless Dan has seen a version of the film where they're both talking about themselves in the third person (which I would love to see). After seeing this video, I'd also love to see a rendition of the Producers in which Dan played every role and over-acted them as much as he did here!
can't wait for the Lion King (2019) Honest Trailer Commentary!
Shouldn't take long to make, apparently.
DJ Jazzy Jaf should have stayed in
Oh God I hope next week is A Christmas Story. Please Please let that be a thing.
Please do Every Honest Trailer ;)
OMFG They are FINALLY doing Grease 2!!!!! YES!!!!!
The Jafar pushing for the invasion of the other territory is dealt with in two lines, first it is where Jafar was imprisoned, and it is also where Jasmine’s mother was from.
Next week is dark phoenix. Callin it
I love Nasim Pedras as the maid in this movie she was the best!!! Also, I understand and like that tried to make Jasmine an independent woman, but that time freezing song completely halted the pacing in the worst way just as the action was building and how can her words overcome a magical wish fulfilled by a genie (which the movie confirms is THE MOST powerful being with Jafar's final wish).
As someone who was a theatre major in college with very minor experience with film, thank you Dan for pointing out it is indeed different acting, haha.
What a bunch of Galaxy’s Edge-Lords ;)
Who else wants to see the guy who commentates about the trailer . Who else ???
Next week is Dark Phoenix?
I haven't seen all of them yet, but for me Cinderella (2015) is by far the best Disney live-action remake (although Jungle Book is a solid runner-up). They made a lot of significant changes to that one that actually helped focus the film and deepen its (human) characters while also retaining some of the most wonderful moments of the original. To me, that makes a really well-balanced take on a classic that pays homage while also clearly trying to accomplish something different. Hiring Kenneth Branagh as its director was such a smart choice for it too, since so much of his early career focused on adapting Shakespeare so he clearly has experience having to make choices like that.
I agree with the idea that this movie makes a good companion piece to the original - not as good, but good on its own merits imho. And Will Smith did as well as you could have hoped for anyone who had to replace Robin Williams as Genie, I doubt anyone could have pulled it off as good as Smith, because he is such a distinct but separate flavor of character from Williams. The things they added to the remake, some of them were just unnecessary, like the palace infiltration over the bracelet, and Jafar not going for power first and actually trying to rule. But some things did make sense and were fine, like them trying to find out where "Ababwa" actually is, and it's a clue Jafar uses to figure out Ali is Aladdin. It never occurred to me in the original movie that the issue is never raised that Jasmine isn't being approached about being Sultan, but yeah, that is odd, so I like they frame her reluctance to marry here not just was wanting to do it herself, but her not wanting to be wed to some foreign prince that just wants to marry her to get the kingdom. Overall, it was fine. Probably the best live-action remake Disney has put out so far.
DrakeyC, my problem with jasmine in this movie is that she wants to be sultan and been studying and preparing to be sultan her whole life but doesn’t understand you can’t just take things that aren’t yours without paying for it. Her heart is in the right place but she isn’t ready to be sultan when she doesn’t understand how things work
I caught that jab Dan! I know I'm the only person in the world apparently who's said this, but I really enjoyed Guy Ritchie's King Arthur. Not only do I own it on Blu-ray, but I even bought the movie poster. I actually lament the fact that I won't be able to see any of the other Arthur movies that he had in his head. I for one think it would have been super interesting to see what version of Lancelot would have been ballsy enough to try to steal the witch version of Guinevere away from the mafioso curb stomping version of King Arthur. There was fun to be had in that movie. Besides, I honestly think that the problem that most people had with it was that it was so far removed from any other "grounded" version of an Arthurian Legend. King Arthur has gained such a status with in popular culture that there are people who actually postulate that he may have been real. It's a story about a man who ruled over a perfect Kingdom, who was gifted a magical sword either by a magic stone or a goddess in a lake, who also had a wizard as his confidant and advisor.......how can you not respect the movie for going full fantasy when that's what the story is?
It broke new ground !!!
I just want you guys to do an honest TV trailer for supernatural as the final season (15) finishes next year so you've got plenty of time to start watching it from the beginning to then wonder where your life went!
The actress for Jasmine was not an unknown to me, luckily. Lemonade anyone!?
Funny enough, I just watched this for the first time last night. Aladdin being my favorite cartoon, I've had mixed feelings about seeing it. Honestly the escape from the cave of wonders and Jafar himself were so underwhelming that it killed the movie for me
100% with Dan on this one
Regarding Guy Ritchie techniques in Aladdin thought the scenes (1) parkour use and (2) when Jasmine was faced with Jafar's henchmen went slo-mo was at least Guy Ritchie, Director trademark-adjacent? BTW loved Dan Murrell's audition for (any) Disney musical. Wait a minute, how would Dan look in a (non-CGI) cat-suit?
Please do Dark Phoenix
I actually really loved this remake
Dark Phoenix next week?
8:17 : I don't know, it sounds like that commenter was being intentionally hyperbolic for the cause of the joke ^_^ 17:15 : To repeat something that I'm sure has been said below (too lazy to read all the comments): There's justification for this in the animated version, based on the simple fact that Robin Williams does the voice of the "Lamp Salesman" at the beginning. Many people have theorized that that was actually Genie disguised, telling people the story of Aladdin.
I saw the movie, thought it fine but now I couldn’t tell anything that happened; other than the stuff from the animated movie. These remakes are just forgettable versions of a superior movies
I havent seen any X-men movie since last stand but I will bring out the popcorn for this honest trailer
Logan is worth watching.
You should definatly do that for Lion King!
Next week is either Men in Black: International, The Dead don’t die or Child’s Play.
Or Dark Phoenix.
Dark Phoenix is next?
Wait a minute, a dead... raise ag... Are you guys doing Dark Phoenix next week? DUDE!!!!
Please put links to the original video in the description.
"Time is a flat circle." Alrightalrightalright!
I thought the guy they picked as Aladdin was perfect! He sounded just like the animated Aladdin and legitimately made me so emotional when listening to “A Whole New World” I thought they complimented each other well
Do Airplane!
PLEASE DO THE FINAL DESTINATION SERIES!!!
Honestly they should have gotten Andy Tennant to direct and went all in on making Aladdin Hitch 2: Arabian Nights Edition because the chemistry between Genie, Aladdin, Jasmine and her nurse maid was the best part of the movie and I would have rather just watch that romantic comedy play out than have to deal with Jafar.
Honest trailer for Brotherhood of the Wolf please .
I had pretty much the same response - more enjoyable than other Disney remakes but was SO disappointed with Jafar, he just had no fun with the part at all
The actor who played Aladdin could breakdance. At some point, I think that trick was fun for them and they didn't care that he couldn't sing after that
MIB: International next week?
It was all a dream from Will Smith's "Nightmare on my street" featuring Freddy Kruger.
First cassette I ever purchased
HONEST TRAILER DOUBLE DRAGON!
Please do honest trailers for X-Men Dark Phoenix!
Part of me thinks Dark Phoenix, but another part of me hopes for one or all of the Rambos
I thought the big acting of the Producers was on purpose? Matching the theme of the thing of wanting it to fail but it ending up being good or ok?
I also liked that movie.
Do 2019 Joker!!
Genie should have been "Trying to get some Handmaid's Tail"
