Its not too often that you come across a Hudson car but its even rarely you come across a Hudson Pickup. Legendary Hobo Jack aka Backwood Jack has had this 1946 Hudson Pickup for over 20 years. Mother nature almost had it consumed but Papa Lynn with the help from his pal Bill and Hotrod Hudsons dad supervising, the 46 pickup is resurrected from its grave. #1946 #centralillinois #commodore #hotrod #hudson #hudsontruck #restoration #hobos #hobojack #pickuptruck #classiccars #ratrods #ratrod #hotrods #americana #americanpickers #americanpicker #pickers #pickersmarket #rust #rusty #rustycar #rustytruck #antique #antiques
LOVE IT👍👍👍 excellent find ! What a gold mine 😊
Its definitely something you don't find out in the woods very often.
That is more than a big wallet job. Sad that us old guys think we will get to it someday. I met Jack in Palmer Alaska playing music back in the seventies..... no idea that he was even alive! Lots of surprises in your video. Takes more than just talent to resurrect this kind of job... all said and done, wishing you a ton of luck bringing it around again. Fellow found one in canada quite a few years ago and the whole building had fell down around it. Took several days to just get everything around the rig moved away but when removed they found it was in super good condition.... even odder was after just bit of work, it ran and drove onto its rescue rig!! That one went somewhere back east USA.
We hope that we can give her a breath of fresh air. Thanks for sharing the story. Jack has sure lead a adventurous lifestyle.
The Hudson trucks and the studebaker coupe express trucks were beautiful
I love it. What a beautiful looking truck. At least one of the wheels turns! 😆🇺🇸🏴
Thanks. Thats what I was thinking too. Gotta be a little optimistic. Appreciate the watch and comment 👍
The Hudson trucks are so different and cool! Glad to see this one rescued. Someone will restore it I’m sure.
Thanks for watching. We sure hope she gets what she needs some day.
I agree Frank
Hudson was one of the cars of choice in derbies back in the early '60s. I never saw a Hudson truck, I was always exposed to Chevys, But the very first photo of me was taken in July 1946 when I was seven months old, my father is standing beside his late 1930 white Hudson holding me up for the camera. He loved Hudson's and Cadillac's
Thanks for sharing. Love hearing stories like this.
I remember when hobo Jack was on American pickers
Yes. I believe he was on there for two episodes. If you look him up on KZhead, he was also at Mike's opening of the American Pickers store in Nashville. I asked him about still playing the guitar, and he nodded his head with a yes and smiled.
I was a partner in a classic auto dealership several years ago and we had a nice '46 Hudson pickup that was on a Ford Ranger chassis. The sheetmetal on that thing was perfect.
I only wish the sheet metal on this one was perfect. 😆
Looks like Hudson was way ahead of their time and chopped the top.
Good stuff neighbor, ol Jack is one of a kind and so is that old Huey guy lol
You never know what we will get ourselves into. Always having fun doing it.
Instead of Backwoods Jack, another couple years and that Big Boy was getting close to being owned by Back to the Earth Jack! Seriously, wish you all the good luck and good health it takes to complete this project!
That gmc ramp truck is awesome
Papa Lynn always gets offers on it just about anywhere he takes it. Its definitely a cool truck and he puts it to work often.
@@hotrodhudson18as far as the Hudson goes, an s10 frame and a v8 , would be a fairly easy to do swap . Super cool. Subscribed
@@IowaBudgetRCBashers we have a few S10 frames and we are doing some research on some different wheelbase. Thanks for subscribing!
REO Speedwagon....not the band but the truck...way, way cool.
Great job on video, very cool old Hudson!!!
Glad you enjoyed it. Always have a blast with the adventures we go on.
Oh wow, very cool!!!! 🤜🤛
Cool truck lots of potential there 😊
Thanks for watching!
It would be okay if one had the time and money, right?
@@1953beetle Its funny how those go hand in hand. Seems like if you do have the time, you don't have the money and if you have the money, you don't have the time. One can still dream. 😃
@@hotrodhudson18 No harming in dreaming,right?
My dad owned a 1946 truck, I remember us kids riding in the back, no seatbelts!! 🎉
Now thats cool. Although it wasn't a Hudson, I also remember riding in the back of my grandfathers old chevy pickup truck. Things were different back then, even in the 80s.
With so little left of it that truck is going to take a LOT of money, time and effort to restore and get back on the road. Great that it's not still just sitting and rotting away like so many of the vehicles where it was at are doing.
I never remembered seeing one on the road but there use to be one parked in front of a body shop on NY route 12 just north of Binghamton i bet it was there 20+Years
Yeah you don't see them to often. During the Hudson international meet last year, there was only one present.
Good luck 🍀🍀, there was some older stuff there in the sheds
Definitely have The Guild of Automotive Restorers do that truck for you.
And let them have all the fun! lol
I'm a new subscriber. I love Hudons but don't know much about them. Heck I like anything old . I'd love to go there and get several of thos3 beauty's
Awesome. Thanks for the support. We love the old Hudsons too. Well just about anything old and cool. A little rust makes it even cooler. Ol Jack had lots of old cars. Wish we could of rescued them all.

Mr. B. Here ! 🍶🍣🍱. Very cool ! Very interesting & informative video ! Looks like it’s going to need a lot of love . Good luck ! 🍶👀😎👍
Thanks for watching! Love, lots of time and 💰 🤑 💸! Lol. We have lots of projects going on but hopefully someday this dream will become a reality.
As rare as they are it would be worth restoring.
I'd have to agree 👍. I'm sure eventually we will work on it after a couple other projects get done. I'd at least like to get all the sheet metal worked out on it.
Those trucks are georges
They always look more doable in their natural habitat.
One interesting take-away about these Hudson pickup trucks, from their “car-graft” perspective, definitely kicks Ford Ranchero or Chevy ElCamino aside from being 1st/2nd at this whole car-truck concept
Yes that is true. I never thought of it like that. Jack has a parts car and we are looking at getting a few parts for the front end so will be curious on what actually is all interchangeable. Thanks for the comment!
I think I saw hobo Jack on an episode of pickers
You are correct! He has been on pickers a couple of times.
Saving it is step #1 then comes stabilizing it because there is not enough of it left to warrant a restoration . the best thing would be in my opinion would be newer drive train and chase and above all save the pentina and the head. And then put her back on the rode and enjoy every minute you spend driving a 78 year old classics. Or at least that's is how I do it to mine now. Never have to worry about getting your paint job scratched. Or just put her up on blocks and look at her. ether way ,enjoy your new toy .
I agree with you 100%. Thanks for the comment. We will definitely post some progress with it one of these days.
It would be awesome if you could get that ol girl back on the road again, but I'm here to tell you that you have your work cut out for you!! Would love to see a good walk around and look through video of the truck!!
Sounds like a plan. Once the weather get a little nicer. We will give the old girl a bath and then do a walk around video. Papa was able to get the one door opened but still working on the other side. Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching.
Does that 46 have a motor in it? Just wondering
No, she's bare bones. Interior is gone except the dash, which everything is gone in it too pretty much. Basically just a old rusty shell on a old rusty frame.
Wondering if you knew the name and whereabouts of the ranch that’s on the drivers door…….. maybe connect with them and see if they got old photos
We unfortunately don't but thats definitely worth looking into. Thanks for the idea. Would love to know more about its history.
That truck would be awesome as a hotrod.tell me your not going to restore it to stock.
I believe its too far gone to be stock. Hotrod it shall be!
Definitely a Ruff old dog But well worth Saving I’m Picking one soon It’s Not as bad as yours But it’s Ruff
Trust the Rust!!! Lol. Would love to see pictures of yours when you get it. What year?

Enough work there for content into 2040.
I'd have to say your 100% correct. 😆
HELLO YEAH, GITERDUN 13OLDOGZ
What He should do is go Rent a large sand blaster, With 10 bags of real fine silica sand, Its like glass bead, Blast everything and Epoxy Prime it, That metal so thick, Then It will be Protected. Cost 400 bucks to blast
Great idea!
Is that vice grips old ralmp truck?
It is not
You got the grill and tailgate? Is that a 8 foot bed or longer? Enjoy
Theres a small piece of the front grill that was in the cab but 90% of it is missing. Unfortunately no tailgate but hopefully we will come across one someday or we will have to fabricate one. I believe it is a 8 foot bed.
REO WAS Ransom E Oldmobile motors
That thing was cool. I honestly didn't know the history of it before looking it up on the net. It was in rough shape as well but what a cool piece of history.
Perfect for a unique rat rod! I have a 1939 Big Boy. So many parts are missing and impossible to find, so I'm busy building a rat rod with it. Check out the build on my channel if you want to see😊
We will definitely check that out.
@@hotrodhudson18 I may have many of the parts you need to restore this truck, we have a couple of garages worth of Hudson parts, many refinished many are stock but we do have a bunch.

Someone will fix it. They are just too cool not to. And if you think they weren't a decent truck, you never looked at the rear spring pack on them. ;-)
Thanks for watching and the comment. Someday she will get some love she deserves.
It is a damn shame that he jest parked them and walk away.
What the hell does that old man doing stell alive out there.
Working
for sale??
Think Papa will hold onto this one. He definitely has a lot of other stuff for sale. If your into 67-72 chevy trucks or IH tractors, he's your guy. Thanks for the view and comment!
What's for sale? Cheep
Hudson truck is definitely way cool but damn.. I’d give my left acorn to take on the resto of that bitchin’ REO truck!!!
I know right. I had never seen one before that day. Supposedly its sold but the gentleman has never came back to pick it up. I Google pictures of ones that have been restored or in good condition and man oh man they are cool. Its crazy how much wood was used on those old car and trucks.
Are you nuts? Who found the truck and didn't realize you needed a chainsaw? I wouldn't take that to a sh_ t fight to use as a shield.
To me that truck is not the effort to dig it out.!!!!!!!!!
Just chassis swap it
Yes 👍
Should have traded him a bar of soap and a haircut.
I have a old trailor made from a hudson pickup box. No fenders on it. Hate to scrap it. Dont know what to do with it. Help. Lol
Where are you located?
I am near Exira Iowa. About one hour east of Omaha.
The wheel hubs have a pin sticking out to help align the wheel I think. So I couldn't find any wheels with a hole to fit. I'm assuming it's the original rear end. Could be wrong.
How much do want for bed/Trailer?
Do you have a picture ?
