VIDEO DESCRIPTION:
You're looking at a 47k lb, 13' 5.5" ft tall, 43ft long beast of a tiny home! The Everly family decided that time spent working, to take two weeks a year together, was off balance. With some research and a quick decision, they fell upon the double-decker bus they had renovated to suit their family and full-time travel.
This rig has two bathrooms with a separate indoor and outdoor shower! The kitchen has a farmhouse style with a deep sink, induction stove, and plenty of gear for outdoor cooking. The rooftop deck has a sturdy railing so the entire family can enjoy the views, including hammocks that can hang from the safety guards! The kids dominate a daytime play area that turns into the parents sleeping quarters at night. This crew is family-oriented and travel driven. What an adventure!

So many people ask their kids to make compromises when living on the road but I personally think the adults should make the compromises, because adults are more adaptable but also the adults are the ones who ultimately made the decision to choose this lifestyle. • @@DoubleDeckerFam I've been shopping for a paint job for a bus. If stick with one color, it looks like it can be done professionally for as low as $5k. That's with a warranty. Vinyl apparently only lasts 3-7 years, depending on brand. For 7 year vinyl, prob looking at $10-20k. I actually like the solid color look. RV stripes always seemed kind of cheesy. I think they're meant to trick our eyes into not noticing the uneven or warped panels. Was basically an old trick used by cheaper quality builders. Van Hool's build quality is MUCH better than RV's. Don't be afraid to celebrate the craftsmanship and materials with a single color. A small/subtle stencil of mountains or something would really bring it together. Or a map of the US that you fill in as you go. Sure whatever you guys decide will be amazing! Can't get over that shower! Real kind of envy. :)

No judgement to other people who are living in RV's or self built vehicles, but I do often wonder if the kids are fully able to enjoy living on a bus because there are no places to play, etc. And I know that there's outdoor spaces but there's also inclement weather, days where they are not feeling as well or up to exploring outdoors, etc. But you guys have done a truly amazing job or trying to give them everything. The safety behind the rooftop deck is really genius. I hope you enjoy the bus for years to come.

    • Okay, let's be honest here. Most families are averaging 4 people living in a RV with small children. These RV's are big enough for children to play in just as if they were living in a trailer park home. You mentioned the inclement weather. Well, what do children do nowadays if the weather is bad? Either they be in the house watching movies, on their phones, or go somewhere where it's indoor entertainment. This family have 6 kids! So he had to create something like this with space. • @@spankbuda7466 I've seen many Rv/ tiny home videos where people are living in smaller spaces than this one and I sometimes feel like the families are all on top of each other, have no privacy, etc so no, they don't always have space to play. Some people may not feel like that part matters much but I personally thinks that it does. Just because someone CAN get by a certain way doesn't mean that they SHOULD do it. Kids cramped into smaller spaces can often get stir crazy (so can parents from the noise levels, etc). I think its difficult on family dynamics to be in that close proximity when they aren't getting along, etc. Also, I've seen many videos where it's 6 kids, sometimes with teenagers, living in a single level bus. While the opportunity for the adventure can be amazing, every situation has it's cons and not all parents have mitigated the cons as well as the parents in this family

    • @@BlackQueenA1825 Okay, you keep bringing up this "privacy" when these people have families. Regardless if they're living in a RV, an apartment, or a SF home your privacy/personal space decreases once you start adding individuals to the equation. We do not know if these families are still owning a home to return to. We don't know if their children are well behaved and just love being around each other. We don't know if that teen was raised in a RV since a toddler and they're just use to being in that environment because this is all that they know and they're conditioned for it. We don't know any of this and just speculating. This is why there's a community of them to socialize online and at in person meet ups to inform each other viable information. I don't think that you're not putting it consideration that this lifestyle is only for a certain group. As long as there's a strong nuclear family presence their insanity would be fine!

  • Hey brother, I might be a tad bit late to the conversation but I’d love to offer some insight towards a problem you mentioned very early on in the video. I am a residential HVAC tech. The mini splits you have installed on the bus are more than capable of handling the cooling load that you have, even with the poor insulation (compared to a house) and the heat gain from having so many windows. The reason they are not sufficient is because you are not using them as intended. Modern day inverter driven heat pumps are meant to run on and off throughout the day, adapting to the demand as needed. As you stated, you have a dedicated A/C for the road which does indeed look incapable of satisfying a whole bus. If you are only running the mini split system when stationary, it will need to work towards a cooling call it was never designed to overcome. I also noticed what looks like either an air purifier or a dehumidifier on the upper floor. If those mini split heads were able to run while you were on the road, they would easily be able to handle your comfort and dehumidification needs while at the same time being less taxing as far as your power consumption. The only problem I see with that is the fact that the heat pump is exposed to wind while on the highway and that could affect the condenser fan performance. If you could find a way to isolate the heat pump from wind on the highway you could really make a difference.

  • This is honestly more well-thought out than a lot of professional RVs for various practical reasons. The transforming master bedroom in particular is smart. It really opens that space up for the kids to enjoy so much more. Love how open it is for any activity. Likewise the roof deck fencing, especially the part that sections off the solar panels. Very simple solution, very effective. I had a similar idea myself if I were to ever do a bus roof conversion, it really is a simple way to protect from very serious accidents if someone slipped or there was a large gust of wind suddenly. That height is... yeah, not so good to fall from lol Roofs are incredibly valuable spaces on vehicle builds and they are horribly under-utilized in so many builds that I see. Even the argument of "yeah that's where my solar goes" isn't really all that good. You can put those solar panels on a frame that rises up either manually or by motor and BOOM ton of space to chill on. Not even that expensive either, even with the electric motor versions. If anyone reading is ever considering doing a vehicle build, seriously consider doing this, it will make for a very nice change of scenery when you can chill on your roof at dusk with a cup of your favourite beverage. Either that or a side tent that expands your outdoor living space, or even a simple side awning, it really makes a difference when you can shield yourself from light bad weather but still enjoy the outdoors. Downside with side extensions is you can't really do that in a lot of areas you park outside of wilderness or larger parking spaces, roof is viable everywhere.

    • I agree...a lot of great thought and design went into this build, and it looks great. Inside you don't realize how tall this thing is, but I don't think there would be any other way to somewhat comfortably house 6 kids. The only thing I saw is the location of those solar panels could be a hazard to anyone going up on the roof, they really should be moved so that you don't have to try and walk between them to get to the roof top deck. Someone at some point is going to slip and its a long ways down.

    • @@wildbill23c An easy solution there would be to make them (or just one) capable of unlocking and sliding up to the edges similar to the railings when you need to pass them. In fact, adding them on to a rotating frame could be quite handy for better sun targeting depending on where you are and time. Too fiddly though lol, especially if it wasn't automated. Sure the panels don't really need an exact angle like a satellite, their efficiency angles are fairly wide.

  • I love your build! To fix your AC unit issues - You could have floor vents (with fans) so that the air between the two levels can circulate directly (the upper floor/lower level ceiling). That way your various AC units can all help each other out as opposed to having to entirely separate zones

    • The top floor is hot because there's minimal or zero thermal insulation in the roof and it's baking in the sun all day. Mixing in the air from the floor below would heat the downstairs space far more than cool the upper space. Essentially, downstairs would need to be freezing for upstairs to be comfortable on a hot, sunny day. Plus, these grilles between floors would transfer a lot of noise between floors which likely have terrible noise isolation already. The real fix for the 2nd floor is more powerful ac, or insulate the roof (which is impractical for obvious reasons and would lower an already low ceiling). There's a reason people don't live on buses! Maybe a house would be a better fit for a family of 8. Sorry to be a buzzkill, but this bus is WILDLY impractical.

I also remember how much it made me feel sad when we arrived home after the 2 week trip as I knew we wouldn’t be that close again for a long while. My father was too busy to spend much time with me. This huge motor home would have been Heaven on Earth for me as a boy. What a rich Blessing for your family. Sadly now I am almost 59 years old and never had children of my own. Yes the years fly by. It's obviously well designed for such a big family, but for a smaller family, the way this is organised, it would be really cool to have a smaller family and use some of the extra space. You never realise how much space is actually on these things but the fact you can fit so much is amazing.

Papa bear😂obviously went to great lengths to ensure comfort and safety for his family. I like the fact that his family plan is not final. It is important to think ahead. The children will grow rapidly and those bunks will be too small at that point. Personally, I would still own a stationary property along with an RV set up.

There were parents who were still working, some couldn't teach properly, and not everyone wants to be around those they care for 24/7.
