Inside the USA's Largest Luxury RVs: Deluxe Life on the Open Road | USA Super-rich Documentary

Forget cramped caravans, these luxury camping cars are more like palaces on wheels. Terri and Richard’s is the size of a bus, complete with made-to-measure marble kitchens and bathroom, extendable surfaces and heated toilet seats. It cost over $2 million but enables them to escape the heat of Florida every summer for Michigan. They’re what’s known as ’snowbirds’, spending seasons living in other states.
On average, snowbirds change their cars every two years, turbocharging the luxury van market. The market is also boosted by Hollywood stars. Mariah Carey's features side extensions and an unfolding second floor that can be transformed into a dance floor! Other camping cars come with a helicopter pad on the roof.
Over a million Americans have adopted the ’nomad’ way of life. Some, like Richard, are ‘part timers’, travelling for a few weeks alongside their work. Others, like, Jennifer and JR, who live aboard their bus with their two children, have left their old life behind completely and embraced life on the road.

  • The family with the dad with the bushy beard seems low key abusive. If a man can’t control his sassiness in front of company and the cameras then just imagine how he talks to his wife when she’s alone.

  • I feel sorry for those kids. I can see that they arent very " happy" having that full time life style without any friends,no school parties, birthday parties...growing up without enjoy the best of their youth. PS: and in a very "Stressful" environment, with the father in urgent need of a Xanax every 2 hours.

    • I think he was stressed before he got on the road. He might have wanted to get away from his 8 to 5 job and imagined being on the road as his escape. But the problem is inside of him. His belief system where he is totally responsible for everything having to do with his wife, children, dogs, etc. is a lot of weight this man is carrying around on his shoulders. He seems to think as the man, it is only his duty to provide. That's why he is so angry when there is no wi-fi. She thinks it was a family decision. He thinks she didn't explain it well enough and now he is pissed off. He hasn't learned to share the pleasures and responsibilities with family members. He must make every decision, no matter how big or small. I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't let her drive.

    • At the same time he can EASILY buy himself a wifi booster that he can stop ANYWHERE and with a secure login, do ALL of his work from anywhere at anytime. He's choosing to be angry because he thinks it's not cutting edge technology enough (idk, mebeh?). This has been around for quite a while. I have a friend that camps at an event that is way off grid and can use his booster, and log on to the next major tower (bypass smaller towers) and work in the middle of nowhere the entire day without disconnects or lag. If they are already rich enough to afford the "lifestyle" that is dependant on dad's work, they are ABSOLUTLEY rich enough to add a booster OR TWO to be able to connect to their income without stress.

Given his work required internet access, the tree branch incident could have been a disaster and the fear of the near accident because of that little car and I get it. I think most people with that many adrenaline surges all on one day would probably have been far more vocal. The work one was a total disaster and a perfect reason to have to move. And then to have to face getting back out of there? I think he handled it pretty well. Thank goodness the damage was only cosmetic, on the tree branch incident. I’ve had serious damage on a much lesser motorhome far from home. Not pleasant at all and I only had me to be concerned about. Just checked my own heart rate. It's up just thinking of his day. LOL

That TV is what I call a neck wrecker. Have to watch from a sideways seated position and it's tiny. My $7,000 coach has a 49" TV in it thanks to a pull down window shade opposite the couch and a mini projector that I installed myself. Cost under $100. LOL Since I used a light filtering window shade, I can do rear projection and display video loops visible through the window which is great fun at holiday time.

  • Macy's is not a Supermarket chain, it's a Department store. They don't sell groceries at Macy's, just clothing, shoes, bedding, bric-a-brac, lighting, Makeup, Perfume, jewelry, and such. But never groceries. Supermarkets like Walmart sell everything, food, clothes, shoes, appliances, electronics, Garden supplies, automotive supplies, and automotive service. That is the definition of a Supermarket. With that said, it's nice to see how the other half live in lavish RVs and posh resorts that 99% of Americans can't afford.

Drive an enormous, fuel thirsty vehicle through traffic on the interstates only to park the behemoth next to another behemoth and try to out do each other with how luxurious their motor home is over everyone else’s. Those camp sites, even the so-called luxury parks look awful. But here’s another American subculture out doing their thing. I’ll never understand it but they enjoy it so power to them.

Funny that viewers don't notice it, which makes it totally brilliant! Reminds me a crazy song titled "Money can't buy you class" People to easily fall for an Instagram delusion of glamorous lifestyle at the RV parks. I have seen quite a few and it's nothing like that. Reality will hit you hard especially when you sell your house and commit 100% to this lifestyle without realizing what you are getting into and at least testing it for a while. It has nothing to do with freedom but rather opposite.

Just keep plowing on. And his anger needs to be worked on. Crap happens and the branch hitting it wasn't the end of the world like he portrayed. He's got a lot to learn. • A simple car license indeed. Any able bodied driver with a class 5, maybe with an airbrake endorsement if needed, can put one of these down the highway. I've always said that operators of these units should require a good amount of driver training and be tested before given a license to drive them. No different than the Class 1 or A license.

    • Yeah I have a regular license and I wouldn’t even attempt to drive one of these. Anyone that’s gonna drive one of these should have to get their CDL’s. Or at the very least be required to do classes and then a driving test to show you know how to drive and park it.

    • I agree (being a retired OTR truck driver that had a class A license for 10 years driving team with my husband). I observed JR driving WAY too fast on the narrow two lane hwy. and NOT driving defensively when he had to avoid the stopped vehicle turning left on the hwy. He was following too closely to control his stopping distance. I believe these RV drivers should be required to have a class A license in order to be trained and tested for safety reasons.

    • I’m fully licensed to drive anything up to 40 feet in length. In the USA my British driving license is recognised for driving any length of vehicle. Personally I believe it’s not safe just to practice for a couple of hours before hitting the road. I’d prefer to take lessons over a few days to include the basics of maintaining the vehicle in the event of a breakdown. It’s irresponsible to be driving such large RVS without any experience nor the ability to change a fuse or a tyre. The one thing that really bothers me is seeing all these luxury motorhomes and possibly one fire extinguisher 🧯 Your going to need one every few feet especially in bathrooms where there’s no exit. Too many people have died or been seriously injured due to fires 🔥 in my opinion. It’s a fantastic lifestyle and good to see that prices are plummeting and the latest models are not selling without very substantial discounts. Those covid days are over and the cutbacks are reflected in the quality or lack thereof and good quality support and spares. I’m suggesting that a number of the top manufacturers are heading towards bankruptcy. Just wait for the bubble to burst 💥 and then negotiate hard. New models are not selling. Embrace the experience and be safe.

Even though he didn't use vulgar language he accused her of not telling him the truth. And his mind is so full he doesn't remember the conversation. When my wife and I first got married we moved into a very small house and a very small town. Our neighbor was just like JR and he got worse very angry never wrong everybody else was wrong.
