Also, TV Sins here: / @tvsins
Even though The Da Vinci Code movie was an insufferable piece of crap, it made enough cash to warrant at least TWO more sequels. With the 3rd one coming out soon, we take a look at the sins of the 2nd film in the franchise: Angels & Demons.

They are paying me $95 per hour, and the most important thing about that is that I am not that tech-savvy, they just asked for basic knowledge about internet and simple typing skill...Great thing about this gig is that I have more free time with my kids. I am in a position to devote quality time with my friends and family and take care of my children and also going on family holiday along with them very routinely. Don't avoid this chance and try to act rapidly. Check it out, what it is about... *amazing73.com*

    • @Ман ван данн As a civil engineer w/3+ decades designing & managing all sorts of building projects let me apply my Dummy-ness: By insuring the fire doesn't start below the roof, nor spread along the underside. It's certainly possible to install sprinkler systems that spray upwards like a fountain onto the underside of a wood roof deck. Disguising the piping in a historic building is a bigger issue. The Notre Dame fire started during a renovation / construction project, which has it's own set of issues, especially if any welding is going on. They should have had a fire watch - called for by code but hardly ever actually implemented. I haven't read up recently on the report(s) on the cause(s) but I think it was mere carelessness if I recall correctly. Someone smoking cig's & discarding a lit butt? It is France after all lol. • She's Italian in canon, considering the Italian high school system has 5 years of compulsory AP art's history, AP Latin and 10/11 other subjects including AP physics, AP Chem and AP Mathematics (it's one course with all the general fields offered in US schools); her level of general knowledge in various fields is not awfully unlikely for an obviously bookworm-inclined Italian person. The only unlikely one is the medical science expertise she "demonstrates".

    • @@lexwolfhale1729 I talked to my Italian girlfriend about this when we saw the movie the other day, and she pointed out that she took Latin in school and knew it to some degree, however, Vittoria is around 30-40? And her field of expertise and work is revolved around physics and antimatter, etc. Latin is probably not something commonly used in that field of work. So let's say it's been somewhere around 15 years (to be kind) since she took Latin in school and then just haphazardly picks up a book written in Latin and with ease reads through it, both of us had our doubts about it. But whatever, it's a movie.

    • Or..the movie is about them because they were the experts called? I don't think random people were called and happened to be experts, but the opposite, when something goes wrong, the experts in that field are called, and so the story would naturally be about them, right? I hope what I said was clear lol. I've played with this thought many times.. there are certainly people who do both, I'm studying anthropology and law, but as a veteran MP, I have first responder experience, also a mom, I wear many hats, what can I say, I'm restless lol. A big one I noticed, even as I watched the movie -- right after the huge air-burst of the anti-matter, everyone in St. Peter's square is blasted to the ground, the fountains erupt, and shit goes flying everywhere. Then, moments later, McGregor comes sailing (almost) straight down -- as you point out (and somehow survives getting bashed into the roof of the cathedral a few times) -- virtually EVERYONE in the square is back on their feet like nothing happened except a fireworks show, and they're clapping and cheering for him.

  • Little fact about Vittoria's education. In Italy there are a dozen of mandatory school paths before University, each during 5 years. One of them, which is one of the most ancient, is "Liceo Classico" in which Greek and Latin are studied for each year. In addition to that, History of Art is taught both in "Liceo Classico" and in the other "Liceo" paths. Probably, Vittoria went in this path and then graduated in Physics at University.

This is evidenced by his knowledge that shit was about to go down at a fountain because it had a dove (the "Angel of peace") on it. Church or not, given this scavenger hunt's focus on Angels, "Castle of the Angel" should have at least popped into his head. Hell, he's walking around quoting "let Angels guide thee on thy lofty quest". • Just for the record: You have to write a letter to the College of Vatican Librarians to get an appointment, and you have to state your reason for wanting to get into the Vatican Archives, such wanting to look at a specific document. There are five members who oversee these requests, and they’re all cardinals. The decision to grant access must be unanimous, otherwise you’re screwed. Should you get your magical appointment, and through the usual customs checks between Italy and Vatican City, you are taken to the Office of the Vatican Library. Oh, and you had better be on time, or you’re screwed. You are accompanied by the librarians and four members of the Swiss Guard, who are fully armed should you try any business, like stealing the document (Langdon and Vetra would have been shot on site for desecrating the Galileo pamphlet). You are only allowed paper and pencil. No books, no pens, no cameras, no mobile phones, no bags of any kind. They sit you down and bring you the document. They give you two hours to look at the document. They will help with any translation issues, but that is all. When the time is up, the document is taken back into the Archives, and you are escorted out by the librarian and the Swiss Guard. That is the protocol. There is no deviation from this protocol. Langdon and Vetra would have been shot on site. I know I said that already, but it bears a second mention. For the record the Swiss Guard are an actual military force. That’s what bugged me the most about this movie. Full disclosure: I’m a research librarian.

We don't use "thy" on a regular basis, but we still know what's going on. Also it's a badass line. Middle English (Chaucer): "Thanne wolde I seye, "Goode lief, taak keep, How mekely looketh Wilkyn oure sheep! Com neer, my spouse, lat me ba thy cheke!" Some of this just looks like badly spelled English, but then you've got things like '"ba" and "taak" and WHY DOES HE WANT TO BA THE CHEKE like there's a sheep somewhere so is he gonna go up to his spouse's cheek and say "BAAA" really loudly or

  • The antimatter was ...problematic.... Quick bit of trivia. When this movie came out in May 2009 the LHC existed and had run beam (it turned on in September 2008) but had yet to achieve a higher energy than the Tevatron collider at Fermilab. That didn't occur until November 2009. Though when they MADE the movie they probably didn't know it wouldn't since the LHC had a magnet problem which delayed ramping up to higher energies by ~14 months. Even after that, however, Fermilab still created more ANTIMATTER while the Tevatron was running (it ceased operation in 2011). The Tevatron was a proton-antiproton collider, and the LHC is a proton-proton collider (though CERN USED to have a proton-antiproton collider called the SPS). Fermilab had to make antiprotons by using another accelerator (first the Main Ring, later the Main Injector) to smash protons into a metal target and capture of of the few anti-protons which flew off. So the Tev wasn't even MAKING antimatter, it was USING antimatter. For every million protons on target, 10 to 20 were collected (we got better over time). We accumulated those in the (almost) aptly named accumulator ring. I say ALMOST because YES it accumulated antimprotons but it was actually shaped more like a triangle with rounded edges than a ring. Eventually another storage ring was added with the NOT at all apt name of "Recycler" (there's a whole other story about why it's named that). The important point is the amounts made were TINY. It would have taken several hundred million years to get a gram of the stuff. So we never made enough to light an old-timey cartoon fuse (much less an actual weapon). So not only was the idea of using antimatter for a weapon silly, CERN wasn't even making the place making most of the antimatter at the time.

A nuke (which is what this is, despite the ridiculous "consumed in light" special effects), when ignited above a city instead of on ground level. It is still more than capable to destroy the area directly beneath it, but both the shockwave and the heat can also freely spread to more distant areas without having to literally go through the mass of the city. What Ewan McGregor did was turn a mildly effective nuke destroying central parts of Rome into a more effective nuke destroying most of Rome, depending on the amount of anti-matter of course. If you had enough, the explosion would be big enough to just melt all of Rome, no matter of the height. Luckily Cern knew to store the anti-matter in portions just big enough to be a disaster, but not so big as for the disaster not to be heroically preventable.

And the Castel San'tAngelo is a mausoleum - originally - and is now a museum, it was never a church.

  • The biggest problem with the bomb going off in the air instead of on the ground is that it would be able to cause FAR more damage from the air. That's WHY nukes and other bombs are generally set to detonate in the air. To maximize their damage. So this bomb should have been even MORE lethal when taken up to that height.

    @billyuno@billyuno5 жыл бұрын
    • Not from _this_ height. Nukes are usually dropped reasoably above the ground but not high up in the sky the way they did in the movie. The effects of a nuke exploding right there on the Vatican ground compared to high above would be asolutely devastating for the entire Rome.

    • Bob Swanson in the book, it’s explained in the actual science stuff as annihilation. Not nuclear whatsoever. It practically vaporized everything it touched in the combustion. It’s nuclear sized, but not nuclear at all
