  • Another Win: Newt talks about how he tried to kill himself by jumping off the top of a ledge and ended up breaking his leg in the book, in the movie when newt "runs" he jog-skips, giving the indication that they implemented that into the movie version

    • I agree. I like both series.....but I felt like with Hunger Games and Divergent and the Gender Games it was following the exact same formula while changing a few details. It was the same story. With Maze Runner, the story felt different. It was mainly a group of boys for one and they were all in one place instead of divided into factions and like you said, I liked that instead of just saying "The world sucks, let's kill everybody". they are delving into the WHY. And they were all really cute. Especially Newt.

Two districts and another section live in complete richness. The maze runner is a great book, but you can't say that another book is bad cause' you haven't read the books in a while or something. :)

      @bonk254@bonk2545 жыл бұрын
    • @@bonk254 - Who said The Hunger Games was bad? Not sure if that was a deleted comment, but I only saw people comparing the difference. And it seemed their points didn't have anything to do whether we ever understood why (for any good book, you should be able to understand why the world is as it is, and why the characters do or don't want it to stay that way). It looked more like everyone was saying that The Hunger Games wasn't about learning why. Characters already knew why everything was as it was in The Hunger Games, minus a few new details later on that any book should have to make sure readers aren't trapped in a static world and characters don't seem to have all information (that's unrealistic). Maze Runner, on the other hand, was propelled through the question "why". That was the reason every action was taken. The goal of escape was important, but the driving force was "why is it this way" and "how do I change it". The goal of Hunger Games was "We need to survive" and "We need to stop this from happening".

They had it all planed out (they would keep their memories and supposedly report back to WICKED ((WCKD)) but would actually escape) up until the point where Teresa snitched (I think) or WICKED found out and Thomas gets his memory wiped. Teresa was totally on board with WICKED’s plan and pretended to be with Thomas until he got his memory wiped. Teresa actually did keep her memories but Thomas didn’t which is why she remembers her name so quickly, she was told to act like she had amnesia. So I don’t think different people have different levels of amnesia.

Oh do you want to get back together?" All in one go. And Thomas is understandably like: "Uh...no, you're crazy and unstable." At no point did she seem genuine after all that. So at least the films made her somewhat likeable, even though she's very flawed. But she was the worst in the books by far. I mean, as much of a prick as Janson is, you can at least chalk it up to him going insane from the Flare eating away at his brain near the end. Teresa had no such excuse.

    • brillow sorry I wasn’t clear earlier! Thomas and newt (along with Minho!) have probably one of the greatest bromances ever. I’m a total lover for minewtmas or thominewt, however you put it just bc they are like, perfect together and part of the life time friendship goals. Scratch the love triangle with Brenda. There’s actually a lot of examples of Thomas being attracted to Theresa romantically. Especially in the first book on how he describes her hair and blue eyes, right at the box and later on. The second book has the “you’re not her”. Third book I’m the least knowledgeable about but the movie, when Gally interrogates her and threatens to cut her thumb off, he’s the only one that stands up and the scene which ends with newt putting Thomas against a wall and then reveals his diagnosis (and suicide attempt in deleted scenes). My version of the ending is that it goes according to the movie but newt and Teresa don’t die. This affects Thomas and the story by making WICKED still out there and Thomas has constant thoughts about saving the rest of the world and is forced to move on and has to learn to trust that whatever rescission he makes is for the best. The epilogue for that (in six months) would be Thomas leading alongside Minho and Newt and is slowly improving to focus on the island and preserve the major advances from the world they left (mainly medical, common manufactured inventions such as glass, and basic technological). This would actually contrast to the canon aftermath where I envision Thomas to blame himself for all the deaths and struggles accepting the leadership role (I’m assuming he becomes leader, Vince just has no mention anywhere and him struggling to accept his role would be a result of him not having newt). He and Gally form a close and unique friendship which is the result of many “midnight outings” to chuck and newts grave. They connect over both knowing how it feels to kill a close friend or the trauma of killing someone so innocent. The epilogue for that would be that Thomas has a talking parrot, the reincarnation of Newt (confirmed by James Dashner). He’s sitting at the edge of the biggest cliff on the island, that overlooks the activities and the horizon, his favorite spot by far. Suddenly, an old man appears beside him and is revealed as Thomas when he’s much older and gives a speech about being able to move on and enjoying the present as well as how he’s one of the greatest if not the greatest people in history.

    • Let's just say he's more reasonable in the film than in the book. In the book, he hated Thomas because, having gone through the Changing, he had seen glimpses of Thomas before meeting him, and assumed that Thomas was a part of the cruel experiment going on around them (again, he's not wrong. But he was a despicable character in the book because he flat out despised Thomas).

He's not very good with his main characters though. They all feel exactly the same. I feel like they're all totally interchable and boring.

    • Olivia Martin SPOILERS FOR BOOK READERS! I couldn't even finish reading Death Cure because Thomas was being so annoyingly childish about what Theresa did in to him in the Scorch Trials, when she made it clear she HAD NO CHOICE it was pretend to kill him or he would REALLY die. She tried to apologize profusely after, but he wouldn't hear it. Then later on he goes to say that she acted nonchalant about it after when she clearly didn't. I just got so tired of him being a baby about WCKD in The Death Cure too. Others may be on his side, but thats just my opinion.

    • +Olivia Martin I’m glad to hear that. I haven’t read this series (one of the few YA series I haven’t) but I expected some backlash for saying he created a likable character since he didn’t technically “create” Thomas, but I think some people often take for granted how much actors bring to particular characters. Not to take anything away from the writers, but acting is not an easy job.

    • oh yeah I definitely would've liked the movie a lot more if that scene was still in there. It just shows a lot of Newt and Thomas's character. And did he? I didn't know that! That makes everything a bit better :D They did a lot right, yes, but a lot was also done wrong. Brenda getting bitten? Changing the whole point of traveling through the scorch? Changing Teresa's goal (like she was with group B in the book and they kidnapped Thomas and everything)? I don't like those changes at all. But I do get some of them; the movie is still a beautifully designed, action-packed adventure, and definitely very enjoyable. I just really want to know how they're gonna make TDC resemble the book more after the changes they've made.

  • I have a lot to say about this movie. One thing (that’s almost totally unrelated) is that, when I, an absolute fangirl of the franchise, went to see The Maze Runner in the cinemas, I was surprised that the theatre was at least 80% males. In the end, I realized it was probably because TMR might be one of the only male driven young adult books/movies out there, as well as the fact that (yep, I’m going there) Teen Wolf wasn’t a well known show in my country at the time, so there weren’t many fans seeing the movie just to ogle at Dylan O’Brien (yet…) (because damn, did he kick off in popularity after this movie).

    @olivia.martin@olivia.martin6 жыл бұрын
    • Makes sense, most of these young adult series like the hunger games and divergent, seem to revolve as much around a romance or a love triangle than the actual story itself. The maze runner seems to be an exception, using an almost entirely all male group with Teresa coming in when everything changes. Of course the scorch trials attempts to bring in some of that romance these other series have, but the maze runner seems to tend more towards guy than girls, although both still seem to like this series

    • So if Gally didn't die after Minho throwing the spear to him, why wouldn't (Spoilers Below) have been the same with Newt and the knife (Death Cure 2018)? I know you want it to stay true to the books, but it already doesn't (it didn't disappoint me). In the movies there is a cure, and the scorch trials movie deviated from the books a lot. So why is it bad if he lives at least in the 2018 version ? I just don't get it how is it worse if he lives in 1 of 2 versions than in none of the 2. But tbh in the book, since we know that the flare affects the brain and Thomas shot Newt in his head, there is a 1/500 chance (0.2%) that... *ridiculous thought* ...the bullet killed the flare and the #SixDaysLaterNAMESNEWTGREENIE is true. But in the movie from the other hand Newt got stabbed. There is 1 in a billion chance (0.0000001%) he survived. So, ironically, it's over-multiple times more probable that Newt survived, somehow, in the book than in the movie. But again, in the movie, Gally got stabbed with the spear and he survived, so there's maybe 1/500 chance in the movie too, that Newt also survived the stab somehow.

  • One detail I love is that while Gally is an asshole, he actually has several moments of being a nice dude. He does congratulate Thomas for remembering his name and when they hide in The Box and the last guy asks to be let in, Gally actually tried to help him in.

    • Problem is that cinemasins just makes up so much or straight up re-edits scenes to point out "sins" they've created themselves so there is not much to debate with someone like that. The internet really needs to move on from that whole thing with trying to "outsmart" movies.

  • Minho in the novels is WAY better than he is in the movies. He's made out to be a couragous and sometimes aggresive character in the books that has his ins and outs and is interesting. With the movies, they turned him into an almost cowardly, kind and definitely uninteresting character. They completely destroyed what made him so awesome in the books. In The Death Cure book, he even shot someones toe to get them to talk. If that's not badass, I don't know what is.

    @Shay-li3zv@Shay-li3zv6 жыл бұрын
    • Mysto fair enough. If you ask me, I'd say Minho is a bit boring in the movie but excellent in the book, while Thomas is the other way around.

      @Aphelion87@Aphelion876 жыл бұрын
    • In the book he didn’t even try to help Thomas save Alby as soon as Thomas went into the maze Minho was so scared he couldn’t even reason with Thomas and Minho ran out into the maze before Thomas could do anything to stop him. Thomas ends up dragging Alby for a bit and then comes up with the idea to grab vines and tie him up so the grievers or beetle blades wouldn’t see him.

    • I rather have a character who is a scared litte bitch has the capability to grow as a character than a character who just starts as a courageous good guy. Plus I'm tired of this "being brave" crap as almost always as a positive. Sometimes running away is the best way to keep being alive.

  • One of the many things I love about the content you make is all the references and jokes you casually make but don't point them out even when they're really witty (we could basically count the ones that aren't on one leprous hand) which makes us feel wonderful whenever we get them and doesn't break your rythm for the rest. I'm awestruck thinking about all the jokes and references you must have made that I missed. (Like the "a simulation inside a simulation INSIIIDE a simulation" which is a Rick & Morty reference) Amazing work, you can feel the passion and the pleasure you must have doing this for us. Thank you.

  • Out of every movie series based off of books this one is my favorite. The Maze Runner Series doesn't just put you in a world and explain it through dumb narration. Instead it puts you in the world with the protagonist knowing just as much as the viewer does. As he gets betrayed we are, as he is surprised so are we. It's awesome

  • I was the assistant to Wes Ball on this film, and to this date it was the best shoot that I've been apart of. Just a quick inside story, there was a day on location in the Glade that a farmer left some gates open and our set got invaded by lots of cows. That's something you don't see filming. XD

  • Please do a video about the original Stargate movie, there is already "Everything wrong" with it but i would like to see your take on this classic scifi movie.

    • vavra222 YAAAASSSSSSS!!!! That series was my JAM when I was kid and it was airing. I remember finally watching the original movie after watching the first few seasons. It was weird but fun at the same time, even if I preferred fun, happy Jack than depressed Jack. It's still really cool seeing how Jack and Daniel first met and became friends. Michael Shanks really captured James Spader's Daniel in season one... even though Daniel slowly became cold and bitter throughout the years. I miss early Daniel. Seasons 3 and 4 are my favourites. You? But yes. CW's take on the original Stargate movie would be awesome! We need more sci-fi recognition.

  • 2:59 Broski, I completely agree! Minho is brave, but he's been there for 2 YEARS. He's had time to become terrified of the Grievers and being stuck in the Maze at night, even if he's a Runner and therefore has one of the most dangerous jobs in the Maze. Thomas, however, has barely been there 1 or 2 DAYS. He hasn't had enough time to be TOLD the scary stories, much less be afraid of them.
