    • I think part of it is that a lot of stylized action movies have been coming out in the last couple of years, and most of them have been pretty good. So the "wow, a cool stylized action movie"-effect had less of an impact on people compared to if it had been released 5 years ago.

  • A detail I always loved in this movie is that both of the twins reacted to their brothers’ death as the personality of that dead brother. Tangerine, normally the brash and louder one, quietly tears up at Lemon’s “death” and Lemon, the quiet and contemplative one, lets out a primal scream when he sees Tangerine’s death. It was almost like they were honoring the other with their last moments together

    • To be fair, most critics seemed to have problems primarily with the story, which, to be honest, wasn't the most creative and is a bit cluttered with plot points at times compared to other, more streamlined stylized action films like John Wick or Kill Bill. It's a bit cliche and thematically rather light, but it's a functional narrative vehicle for the fun and engaging action scenes and performances, which are really the major highlights here, and the fact that the plot manages to keep track of so many characters all at once is not too shabby. It was a box office hit nonetheless, so it found it definitely found its audience.

  • 18:18 As a swordsmanship trainee and fellow Hiroyuki Sanada fan, I'd say that the Elder's sword would probably be classified as a shikomizue, a cane sword. Similar to a shirasaya but disguised as a cane, often with thinner blades than a classic katana, which the Elder's sword seems to have too

    @nicksherer9681@nicksherer96816 ай бұрын
    • Wow okay I've finally realized that the sword was inside the cane. The entire movie I expected that but because the tsuka wasn't the handle of the cane (the bird) I thought he had hidden the sword somewhere else. I just watched it back and realized that the sword is drawn from the bottom of the cane. Somehow I missed that.

He could've done the exact same swings and cuts but with _more_ power, because he still has ample room for his arm and by simply not eggregiously overswinging he'd have easily avoided the walls. If he's so restrained that he can't even put his arm out to the side then sure, then reverse grip is slightly less bad, but that's not the case here.

  • One really fun detail is how each of the assassins on the train get killed by their own weapons. Wolf's knife, Hornet's poison, and Tangerine's gun. Technically not his own, but the White Death does end up dying to the gun he was using and, a lot more abstract than the others, the Prince did use Lemon at one point to dispose of Yuichi, and he ended up killing her as well.

I was honestly surprised you hadn't done this one yet but i was responded to in 12 hours. I was sort of surprised by the huge changes from the book to the movie(or vice versa, im not actually sure which came first) but they have masterfully carried over the tone and bloodiness from the og version. The situational comedy and just the theme of bad luck throughout was just *mwah*.

  • I saw 100 new films last year and this took my #2 spot on my favorites. Glad more people are talking about it now because I didn’t understand the mediocre scores from critics.

    • Awesome! Two questions, out of curiosity: 1. What film took your number one spot last year. 2. Did you also watch Everything, Everywhere, All at Once last year? If so, where did that place?

      @MagikanVearlae@MagikanVearlae6 ай бұрын
    • @@MagikanVearlae 1 My personal favorite of the year was Death on the Nile. Im a big fan of whodunnits and I love the old-fashioned style with the sleek modern filmmaking. Other ones near the top were Puss in Boots 2, The Bad Guys, Vengeance, and See How They Run 2. Oh you just assume it made my list? Lol jk I gave it the 10 spot. My feelings are polarized with that film. I was enjoying the film until the last 30-40 minutes where I felt it dragged SO slowly and repetitively and that really dampened my overall score of it. Trust me, I really was like “Movie, why can’t you just let me love you like I want to?!” The overwhelming praise for it kinda made me dig in my heals in on that. BUT, I can’t deny the amazing filmmaking, and how it somehow managed to pull off being a genre free-for-all. For that I put it at my #10.

  • 16:03 The dialogue spoken by The Elder "Prepare together or we die alone" may be a reference to the TV Series Lost because that show had the dialogue "If we can't live together, we're going to die alone", and Hiroyuki Sanada was in that show in its final season.

  • Checking this movie on IMDB blew my mind twice. Aaron Taylor-Johnson is not American and has been doing an American accent in every film I've seen him in previously and both Brian Tyree Henry and Joey King do some of the best British accents by a non-Brits I've ever heard. I'm not British myself, so I could be missing some nuances but they sound 100% British to me.
