GOTG! 3! The end. For now I guess. This one actually has the highest audience rating of all the Guardians movies, so that's interesting. I also liked it. Here's everything right with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3!

Really loved that Gamora didn't end up going back with the Guardians in the end. Really shows how family isn't just who you're told your family is, but where you feel you belong.
Also her just becoming like the other Gamora and coming together again with Peter would have downplayed the development our first Gamora made over two movies in my opinion. I think James Gunn even said it once that he hates it when a movie death is just undone without consequences.
@@wyvernhattori1811 It didn't make sense to bring her back to the Guardians because they were never *this* Gamora's family. Gunn also said he never wanted to have Quill and Gamora say "I love you," and the only time where they did was in Infinity War, right before the Guardians' Gamora was sacrificed by Thanos. Them going their separate ways in the end was the right decision. Quill went home for the first time to the family he left behind, and Gamora returned to the Ravager family she joined since freeing herself from Thanos.

i wanted groot to accidentally call her mom and have rocket get mad at her and say " pls, just pretend for him" then end with her doin something old gamora did accidentally that showcased the mother son relationship

I like how we all went into the movie fully expecting somebody to die, or else this ending would feel real toothless. But once the movie ended and no one died, it still felt satisfying and earned.
I mean half of the movie was a team effort to save Rocket and Starlord's "death" was prevented by the one character who was deemed worthless, and yet got a chance to prove itself
Dying is dramatically cheap way out. Gut punching how Gunn does in this movie is way more resonating.
proof that you can have stakes in your story and that you can tell a compelling one without anyone dying
To be fair, the majority of the Guardians already died in "Infinity War" but like Rocket said, "they're only kinda gone."

I legit cried when Groot said "I love you guys." Knowing that we as the audience finally connect with him and understand him was way more touching than I ever expected
Tbh, it was the one thing I didn’t like about the film. It felt off to me icl. Plus I’m definitely gonna miss the whole “Groot says something horrendous and the audience has to try piece it together” mini game that we’d have to do whenever someone reacted to what he said

I loved it when I understood what it was. But at the time of watching it? Me and my entire family paused in confusion and went “wait what?” Because we thought groot actually talked djdjd

I think one of the best things about this movie is how it wasn’t about some world-ending or multiversal threat. It was just about the Guardians trying to save their friend.
And they just ended up killing some emperor who feels like he’s a god because he tortured rocket
It feels like a British film. Usually murican films have the classic bland ‘world ending sky beam’ with zero stakes because you know the goodies win and everyone lives. But this felt like rogue one, anyone could have died and the stakes were better because they’re realistic

When Lylla was shot I was starting to cry, but Rocket's screaming broke me and when the High Evolutionary mocked Rocket my sadness twisted into rage.
they absolutely nailed that part. really made you feel for rocket.

I love how Adam Warlock learned empathetic emotions throughout the movie. That bit of him seeing the alien pet mourn it's first companion and feeling bad was simultaneously hilarious & wonderful characterization.
My boyfriend described it as "watching him discover empathy live on camera"

People forget that Adam was basically a child in a grown body in his first comic appearances. This wasn't the Adam we see in comics today, but it was very true to his early story.
I think when it really hits is when he tries to go back and save his mother. You never see him fail but you know from the way he returns and promptly passes out that he probably either got close or got to her in time to be inside the explosion and still lose her and then limped back, as it were, to the only place he could go. When he’s curled up in the blanket it’s also sad, because the only real reason he would need it is because the blanket is comforting, because he lost his mother trying to save her and he has no one to talk to about that.

The ending with Nebula and Rocket, two characters with a such a tragic backstory, who have gone through so much physical and psychological pain, just shouting and howling with joy. So good.
And it was such a perfect counter to the wail of pain from Rocket when his friends died.

So true - Nebulas character development is one of my favourites in all of marvel, and tbh one of the best in most movies I’ve seen - she grew so much over the films
@@AngelLikesArt Both her and Gamora had great character development over the films. That's why to me at least Gamora's death in Infinity War is the saddest in the MCU so far. Yes, Tony's and Natasha's deaths were sad too, but there is a big difference between making a sacrifice to save the people you love verses being sacrificed to someone else's selfish reasons.
One of my favorite unspoken mentality shifts in this movie is Star-Lord going from "kill no one", to seeing what they did to rocket, to going absolutly scorched earth on the ship with groot

I love how Kraglin started laughing and clapping when Rocket started playing Come and Get Your Love. Since he was the only one there who knew about how much Peter loved that song.
Even better when you consider that since Peter left Earth, he's known him the longest.
@@QuietAuroraThe actor who plays Kraglin is James Gunn's brother IRL. He also does a lot of the motion capture for Rocket. He's a talented dude.

GOTG 3 was literally my favorite of the three movies, it was that perfect mix of giggly and serious. I have seen it too many times.
The first one is my favorite, but this movie did not disappoint. :')
This one was my fav marvel movie in like a decade. Maybe cause it didn’t feel like marvel lol
I think the 2nd one was the best one, but honestly they all went so hard, they are all amazing. My favorite scenes are the intro to guardians 1, the part where rocket defends the ship in gotg2, the yondu arrow fight in gotg 2, the big end fight in gotg 2, adam warlocks scenes in gotg 3, and the end song for gotg 3
Yeah same. My family has made fun of me for seeing it 4 times lol. (Twice in theaters, twice at home) It is truly the best mcu movie. (Guardians one is a very close second)

I love how this movie showed you can still have humor undercuts but its OKAY to let serious hard moments settle and exist. Hopefully this can be the start of a trend.
Not sure if this came _before_ or _after_ GOTG3, but if it's the latter, this trend has definitely seen more light in Puss in Boots: The Last Wish (which I cannot wait for CinemaWins' EGA of.)
I think what it succeeded at was having heart. That’s what made the humor bits and the emotional bits fit together so well, because it was all genuine. If a movie doesn’t have heart in the first place, then it can’t succeed at humor and emotionality at the same time, only one or the other.
It undercut a lot of emotional moments. But if anyone was feeling like Gunn was using that to pull his punches, the Rocket escape scene let us stew in the brutality.
The last chat Gamora and Quill have with their backs to each other was one of my favorite moments of the movie. It was ultimately a private, intimate moment that gave Quill a bit of dignity back.

That scream from Chris Pratt with the actual emotion in his face was heartbreaking. I know it’s acting but whatever that man drew from deep inside himself to do that……
He did it in GotG 2 as well, with Yondu.

I’ll admit I had to go back and watch it again to see (The Yondu scene). I still think this one has more real emotion to it from Chris Pratt. He genuinely pulled some deep emotion out. I felt it.

good actors doesn't have to "draw deep things" from inside them to be good actors
This movie broke me. On so many levels. I hate animal cruelty and James Gunn made sure I would *hate* the High Evolutionary more than any other MCU character. But Nebulas reaction to Rocket being okay... man I had tears of joy in my eyes. She was so happy she couldn't even try to supress her emotions like she usually does. Brilliant moment.
He got what he deserved
Probably the most easily hated villain in the entire franchise. Although ego was close behind with killing kids and Meredith. Oh and using the Hoffs face for evil. Almost as bad right there. Honestly. Can’t think think of any other villain in the series that easy to just outright want to see die. Like of course we wanted to see them all lose. But just outright hating them. Eh. Really am drawing a blank here.
Gunn confirmed that despite it being a deleted scene, the alternate ending is canon: the High Evolutionary received a fitting punishment by being locked in an animal cage on Knowhere.

@@draconuuse9731 I wish he'd stuck around as the recurring villain for Phase 5, because Kang has been pretty weak so far. High Evolutionary inspires such raw and genuine hatred that I would happily watch more movies with him being the villain in them.
Nebula crying is legitimately my favorite non-Spidey scene in the MCU. With just a simple sound we’re shown such a profound end to a character arc that started approximately a decade ago, and it’s so unbelievably real and human. I’m sad that we probably won’t ever get another Gunn directed MCU film, but if this is the type of storytelling he brings to DC it’ll be worth it.
So many film makers wouldn't even think to cut to her character in this moment, to show her reaction to Rocket being revived. Gunn loves all his Guardians.
I don’t know if I actually gasped, or just felt the equivalent jolt, but wow were her fears a deeply felt and profound moment.
I also love how when Mantis says they love Rocket and are happy he is alive, she is obviously saying what everyone feels but it's almost as if she is specifically translating Nebulas emotions at that moment and is saying what Nebula feels but can't say aloud
I love the subtle win for Nebula enjoying the drink on Counter Earth 'that is delightful'. It's so nice to see her enjoying small things that she'd never have showed appreciation for before. I loved all her moments - bantering with Mantis over the faces she pulls, calling Peter Star-Lord when she's annoyed with him, crying when she finds out Rocket is OK, being clearly not comfortable with the kids at first but dancing with them by the end, 'yeah, that looked cool' to Groot, her grunt-greeting for Gamora, how she calls Mantis by a nickname even when they're arguing, and Rocket's little nickname for her near the end, Nebs. All little things but added together showing such growth. I agree with all you said and more. And Rocket, our beloved raccoon... I think you hit on all the beats pretty well but a couple more I wanted to add. We get the first instance of Rocket using Peter's name when he says, 'No, Pete...' in that heartbreaking way. He's always kept an emotional distance from Peter by calling him Quill, a point that is underscored by their dynamic in Gotg2. I think you said Gunn used Fleetwood Mac to underline that Rocket may never love Peter - - I think it's the other way around, that song signifies that Rocket's fear is that Peter doesn't love him like he loves Peter. And boy, when Rocket loves someone, he loves deeply, as this movie and his conversation with Yondu in vol2 shows. By the time Rocket uses Peter's name, he's sure that he's beloved by Peter - he woke up in Peter's arms to his friend sobbing with relief that he was alive. That changes the dynamic of the friendship. He's sure he's Peter's best friend, not second best friend. (Sorry, Drax.) And Peter, for his part, recognises Rocket's leadership qualities and relinquishes the role that as you point out, he was never that well suited for. I get the vibe that you didn't love Peter and Gamora's arc, but I loved it. I thought it was so refreshing to not see them shoved back into a romantic pairing but each allowed to grow. Zoe Saldana's growl of 'what is there that's missing in your self that I need to be something for you?' is every woman's retort to a man who tries to use her as a shortcut to self-actualization. In true sister fashion, Mantus recognises this and tries to prompt Peter's growth, although in the end he gets it on his own. ' I'm still not who you want me to be, you know.' 'I know. But who you are ain't so bad.' Although did 'I bet we were fun' get me? Absolutely 😢 As for Gamora, her growth was more subtle, but it's there. Also, she gets her sword back!
I had never thought about PeterxNebula as a couple before, and I just laughed it off as a joke when I first saw this movie. But on a rewatch, I actually started shipping them. They do work, in a strange way, with just the right balance of respect and seeing through each other's bs, that I could see them becoming something more. So I hope they continue the trend with Gamora having her own life separate from the Guardians, even if she becomes a recurring ally to them.
i’m glad she wasn’t like totally mean to peter and like acknowledges it a bit while still telling him that she isn’t the same person and that she doesn’t want or remember a relationship
Don’t get me wrong, I had no problem with Pete and alternate Gamora not being together in the end, because that’s the point! I loved that they ended up the way that they did. I think the big problem I had with the conflict, though, is that I felt that they could have done so much more with the Peter and Gamora conflict that what they did in this movie. In it, Peter and Gamora argue with each other until they accept each other as they are, and it feels like a buddy-cop plot disguised as a character study, and it wasn’t very fun to watch. We could have had Peter explore through the alternate Gamora what life would have been like if Infinity War and Endgame didn’t happen, and ultimately accepting that he has to live in the now. I’ve talked with another commenter about this, and felt that Peter could have told her about the secrets his timeline’s Gamora confided into him, in order to have her do good, opposite to the High Evolutionary then using what he knew about Rocket to deliberately hurt him. Instead, they have Gamora look at a picture of the Guardians’ past life, and it felt cheap to me. They could have done something more emotionally satisfying than “I bet we were fun” and had Peter and the other Gamora feel satisfied that they knew about their past lives. Their final scene together could have been like this: “I’m still not who you want me to be.” “Me neither. But who you are ain’t so bad.” “You’re not so bad yourself, Quill.” It would have been so satisfying for Quill realizing that he needs help, a change in scenery, too before confessing this to the Guardians. There’s this movie called Past Lives where they do the exploration of an aborted romance MUCH BETTER. They explore what life could have been for the two main characters, rather than constantly go at their throats, and the aftermath HURTS, but they come away feeling more fulfilled. If you loved it, great! I’m just not a big fan of it myself.
To be fair. It did look quite delightful.
This movie restored a lot of my faith in Chris Pratt as a dramatic actor. His scream at 17:10 is so very well done and him antagonizing Evolutionarys monologue is so good
That scream was real. He dug deep for that one.

Pratt always had it in him. But I think only Gunn ever managed to get that side of him. Everyone else just wants Pratt to be the stereotype action hero or some stock funny personality.

As someone who knew nothing about Adam Warlock going into this film, I remember being so surprised and kind of happy that while his entrance does show off how powerful he it wasn’t a “bad guy walks in, totally invincible, just tosses everyone aside with ease” kinda moment. He takes some hits.
It also makes the High Evolutionary much more threatening that he just pushed Adam against the wall later with ease. It’s really telling how powerful he is. And I like how Adam is just nonchalant when we first see him, from the arrow and getting stabbed. It really establishes his personality. While at the same time Adam wasn’t invincible but still left a massive mark on the Guardians which set the film in motion
Still feel like he was just useless in the movie, like yeah, he was the one who started the story, but anyone could do that, even just one of those squid rhino stuff
@@QuietAurora you dont need to write an essay about stuff everyone knows, but just saying “he is just a child” isnt doing much, its like having thanos lose against thor at the start of infinity war and saying “he has only two stones”

@@QuietAurora but that doesnt change anything, i could also just start stating facts how in the film you clearly see he experienced both pain and lost the first time when fighting them, but that doesnt change how strong he is
I too felt Demon Spider Bunny was Gunn taking it too far. Cut to an hour later with me sobbing uncontrollably that the horrid purple man had scared my precious Floor who had been nothing but sweet and happy despite their horrid circumstances. Floor panicking and Rocket cry-screaming was the most heartbreaking thing I've seen since Grave of the Fireflies. At least this movie had a happy ending. And I'm glad Gamora made her own family, and clearly has an ok relationship with her sister.

One of my favorite moments, was when Mantis told Drax he was never ment to be a warrior, but a father. It`s true. He had a wife and a daughter and then Thanos came... Powerful moment to me 🙂

I think it’s more of a KZhead thing. Most creators like CinemaWins have to wait until a film releases on digital/blu Ray before they can use content from it.
That scene where Rocket cries over Lylla’s death and The High Evolutionary just begins to mock him for it while Floor yells about them leaving in the background was such a chaotic and difficult scene to watch, but it was such a great one too. This is absolutely my favorite movie in the trilogy.
I think you really missed out on a part of Nebula’s arc. The time she spent alone with Tony on the ship. The person that taught her fairplay and kindness. The fragile human at near death that didn’t have the advantage of her modifications to survive… This man that came back from that to then start a family and then to lay that all on the line to restore the universe at the cost of his own life. I think this was a huge life lesson for Nebula.
Nebula had been slowly growing on me, but after this movie and shot to the top of my favorites. When she broke down hearing Rocket’s voice I started crying. It’s one of my favorite moments. Their friendship is so understated and a lot of it is inference to time outside the movies. When Rocket was touched she got him Bucky’s arm in the Christmas Special, that was the moment I put it together and remembered that they were traveling together after the Snap so they probably became close. And realizing their personalities actually mesh well, they would get each other.
that was a whole 5 years of just them, i love how gotg3 shows just how meaningful that friendship meant to them.
It's because she has been in his shoes. They both share the same tragedy from their upbringings. I also felt the same about nebula when she broke down.
Nebula has one of the best character developments in the series.
Can we talk about the difference between Rocket's screams though? Rule of threes: begins with his scream of pain from Lylla dying, screaming in battle because he couldn't care less about life, and screaming while dancing with the Guardians at the end. Top tier representation of character development, chef kizz.
Chris Pratt's scream as he realises he is losing Rocket hits a chord of loneliness inside I didn't realize was there. Even the 2 seconds you're showing moves me to tears again 😢
Floor's panic and death shattered me. She sounded exactly like my daughter and I didn't sleep right for days.
James Gunn took a group that included Talking Tree, Blue Dude, Green Lady, Angry Racoon, Bug Girl, and Blue Cyborg; and made them some of the most relatable characters in all the MCU. That's skill on a level i can't believe.

Fun fact, Nebula's actress, Karen Gillan, carried a live sized prop dummy of Chris Pratt that was much easier to hold, weighing I think like 35 pounds. And it fooled me completely. I understand that there would be no way for her to hold Chris as easily as Nebula did without some help. But I was super convinced it was real Another fun fact, the person Mantis made love Drax was played by Benjamin Byron Davis, who is the voice actor for Dutch Van Der Linde in the Red Dead series. I didn't recognize him at first because of the prosthetics but now I can't unhear his voice. God this movie freaking rules!
Dutch was also in ant man 2, so that makes him another recycled MCU actor

Another fun thing is that the 35-pound Chris Pratt dummy is now owned by Karen Gillian, and for a while it was in James Gunn's own office. Also it freaked Chris Pratt the f*** out.
I know it was such a small part of the movie, but Rocket playing "Dog Days Are Over" at the end really stood out to me. It was a great way to multi symbolize how they're letting go of the past. Not only is it a song from modern era, showing a jump from past to present music, it's a song about how eventually all struggles will be left in the past. The hardest part of the Guardians journey is finally over. Sure, they won't heal overnight, but they're not holding that pain so close to their hearts anymore. They're using their life in the present to pave the way forward.
I can't believe it but Karen's performance in this one has cemented her as one of if not my absolute favourite mcu character, her reaction to finding the children was perfect
I think Rocket’s talk with the High Evolutionary about music is also pretty important. It’s not exactly “even gravity bends to me” but it also underscores how much Rocket is everything the High Evolutionary wants to be and he doesn’t ask for any praise or pretend to be perfect or amazing or better than everyone else. He’s just inventive and caring and brings order to a chaotic world to make people happy.
I agree with you, along with it showcases Rocket's love for music, a connection he shares with Peter and Groot. Also, notice how Rocket notices the music and asks what it is. He did something The High Evolutionary never did and that was take in the world around him. High Evolutionary's flaw was he could only see the flaws in others. He actually did create perfection many, many times over, but all he could see was the flaws. Intellectually, Rocket is smarter than High Evolutionary, but Rocket purposely chooses to be imperfect. He mispronounces words when he clearly knows better. He chooses to break the law. He is sarcastic, snarky and enjoys violence. He does all of these things on purpose because the being who made him tried so hard to be "perfect".

Rocket and the baby Raccoons was such a brutal watch. Last time he couldn't save anybody and now he can be there for these tiny things, the way nobody was for him. And these emotional moments hit so much harder because of how this movie depicts grief and trauma. We're shown how Lyla's death completely overwhelmed Rocket. When he reaches out for the raccoons, when he looks around at the rest of the cages just taking it in, we know he can barely process it all.
One of my favorite little details is how Peter went into Orgocorp absolutely adamant on no killing anyone, but when he sees what the High Evolutionary did to make Rocket, you can see that switch flipped that leads very directly to him telling Groot "Kill them all"
That scene where Nebula cusses Drax out, and Mantis defending him broke and warmed a part of my soul.
i LOVED this trilogy. I will say The High Evolutionary is the….i dont wanna say “best” villain, but he’s the first and i think only MCU villain who i legitimately hated and wanted to hit when he was on screen.

Oh my gosh yes. I hated the High Evolutionary. He's absolutely one of the most disgusting villains ever, honestly.
Yeah. With the other ones, you can often see what is driving them, and it grounds them a bit. But the High Evolutionary, pure evil.
@@MegaLokopo It sorta is a trilogy. There might be be more GotG movies, but this team, as currently constructed, is done. Drax is retired and Bautista's said he's done, Peter Quill's story arc is done, Gamora has her own family. The same way the original Avengers were done after Endgame.
One detail I noticed: the trigger for the beginning of Gamora prime's heel face turn in GotG1 was the same as the trigger for the beginning of alternate Gamora's heel face turn in GotG3: seeing the big bad wipe out an entire planet for no reason other than simple peevishness
I hadn't caught that, but you're totally right! Even though Ronan was just threatening to do it - or have Thanos do it for him - it had the same weight to her. She may have been able to rationalize Thanos's thing of "purge half of all life for balance" over the years, but his willingness to engage in a full genocide just for a grudge opened her eyes to how truly awful he was.
I lost my grandfather this year to dementia and seeing peter see his grandfather and him recognize makes me tear up everytime. It reminds me of how my grandpa would call me my nickname everytime I saw him. It’s making me tear up writing this
That scene made me cry in a way no movie ever has. Peter's grandpa looks a lot like mine. It's been eight years and I still miss him, but the pain is lesser. Sorry about your grandfather.

I spent this entire movie wanting to cry, but couldn’t. When Star-Lord was screaming over Rocket, it nearly broke me, but I still couldn’t let go. Credit to Chris Pratt, that is one of the best portrayals of the anguish at losing a friend (even though Rocket came back). Signed up for therapy the next day. Guess the PTSD wasn’t as under control as I thought.
Good for you for recognizing that some wounds weren't healed and getting some help. We all need an extra hand from time to time. I wish you well on your journey of recovery and reconciliation. 💜 You are worthy. You are enough. You are loved.
Having Adam being a « child » even though I half expected him to be all badass like the comics felt good. Like he was just born so he still act like a child a lot of time. But his natural strength was still there even if he don’t use it that well.

Chris Pratt's scream of anguish is probably one of, if not the most, emotional performances in the MCU. Genuinely felt like they just happened to catch him watching a friend die
During this whole movie I was right on the edge of being emotionally wrecked and then Nebula breaking composure when she heard Rocket was OK just sent me over the cliff. Her arc is definitely one of the best in the whole MCU
The moment that finally got me to cry was when Rocket saw Lyla again and could only apologize, because he was carrying that guilt around for so long.
Dog Days are Over being used in the ending after the closure of an incredible emotional arc is actually insane to me, because the song has so many meanings when relating to Rocket, Drax and the kids. The song is about suddenly experiencing happiness and disbelieving it there, and the dog days (of summer) being over in the song means that a difficult time has passed in the protagonists' lives. But it can also literally mean that the dog days are over, meaning the days of being treated like dogs (being treated less than human, ex being experimented on) are over. Its such a powerful moment and even going into it knowing that it was going to be the final song in the movie it still killed me. This movie was absolutely incredible and definitely my favorite of the trilogy. I grew up with Guardians - it was my first and favorite Marvel movie. From getting scared at Peter's mom dying when I was 8, to dancing along to Baby Groot at 11, and receiving this incredible closure at 17, it was a perfect cap off not only to this era of growing up but to the stories of these wonderful characters.
I think the moment that broke me the most was Nebula's reaction to hearing Rocket's voice over the com for the first time since he was put into critical condition. Her grizzled facade completely broke down and she allowed herself to feel emotional over someone she cares about.
Yeah, they made a good point about that with Endgame. I had forgot they were the only 2 survivors
The ending of this movie is so sweet and cathartic, I was on the verge of tears through the whole thing, and then the second I heard the opening of 'Dog Days Are Over', I completely lost it and could not stop crying through the rest of the ending. This movie shot to the top of my 'Best MCU Movies' list, and I'm so glad James Gunn got to wrap up this trilogy.
I remember instantly getting emotional at Floor's appearance since she looks so much like my old bunny. Her fate was the first time the MCU has had me crying in the theater, and i wanted to strangle the High Evolutionary
One of my favorite things about this movie is how competent Groot is through the whole thing. He is the single most reliable member of the team and does not ONCE fumble a task given to him. Kinda great tbh

I loved the ending of this movie. I was happy they gave every character an ending that fit their story and didn’t have them die. My favorite ending was that they didn’t have Peter and Gamorra get back together. Cause while we all wanted Peter to be happy and understood where he was coming from most of the movie, deep down we knew that it would have been cheap to for them to magically fall back in love at the end. Instead we gor a more realistic and satisfying ending of them being friends again, but Peter accepting that this Gamorra isn't the same woman he loved, and that he isn't the same guy as he was in GOTG 1 that this version of Gamorra might of fallen in love with. He's grown and changed too, so this ending where he learned to move on felt so real and deserved where a "and they lived happily ever after" ending would have felt wrong.

After watching the third movie in the Guardians trilogy, I went and rewatched the first two. I didn't even REEALIZE that Cosmo shows up in the first movie, even though she doesn't speak. I didn't know who she was, how powerful she is, and what a good dog she is... and now I have so much more respect for her and understand just how much pain Rocket suffered in his life. So I respect him and empathize with him that much more too.
Volume 3 was arguably the best of the Guardians of the galaxy trilogy. It was emotional, funny, and a fine send off to the original Guardians team.
I honestly don't think you'll get many arguing that it shouldn't at least be considered to be the best one. Some might put the 1st ahead maybe? I think it's the best of the three too, personally.
The thing we should argue about instead is whether it is the best overall MCU movie. Not saying it necessarily is, but that is what I would discuss…
The fact that people are arguing about which one is the best speaks volumes (heh heh) about the trilogy as a whole

The realization that the only reason Rocket was obsessed with prosthetics is because of his past friends gives every movie a new, sad look.
"Name's Rocket, Rocket Racoon" should be a stupid line but with the context of the trilogy it is so damn satisfying and cathartic.

The “No Sleep From Brooklyn” scene is one of the most BADASS AND BRUTAL fight scenes in the MCU
People have said a lot about the latest run of MCU movies. But this one was brilliant. Goes to show what consistantly using a director with a vision and passion for a bunch of characters can do.
The parallel between Rocket's pained scream and his final joy-filled yell never fails to give me the watery eyes
I did not expect to cry so hard watching this movie, but rocket's responses to trauma from sorrow to anger to channeling it into fury... ALL SO WELL DONE
Out of all that MCU brought, Guardians made by James Gunn had to be my favorite trilogy out of all of the Avengers movies. But this one had never kept my face dry. Every scene was beautiful along with the depressing scenes of Rocket’s past and knowing his story through the last films. I really love this movie and it holds a special place in my heart for how it made me feel after watching to the end.

My favorite detail from Guardians 3 was the part when they were locked up and arguing. Nebula gets frustrated because the kids don't understand her. Mantis says "Stop yelling! You're scaring them!" And Nebula immediately backs off and you can see she feels guilty about what she just did. Nebula spent most of her life afraid of Thanos so it wasn't lost on me that she was worried she might have traumatized those kids. It's a very small blink-and-you'll miss-it moment, so I applaud the effort on everyone's part to have such a small detail mean so much

James Gunn has become one of my favorite film director's. Between the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy, The Suicide Squad, and the 2000's Scooby-Doo movies. I can't wait to see what he does with the DC movies. (Nobody spoil Peacemaker, I haven't seen it yet. TY)

The ending is a little bizarre, but it's still a really good series. Eagily (spelling?) Is the best part. Can't wait for season 2. Also if you haven't seen 'the boys' I know it's off topic, but amazing show as well.
Super, and Slither are both great films, so I was eager to see what he would do with an MCU film, and he ended up making some of the best with the Guardians movies

I put off Peacemaker, I didn't particularily like the character in Suicide Squad. But I watched it last week, and I can say, ABSOLUTELY go watch it. It's amazing how James Gunn managed to grab a self centered/egotistical sociopathic antagonist of a movie, make him the lead of a show, and make it a show with SO MUCH warmth and emotional growth and love. Highly recommend.
I can't describe how much I loved the use of Dog Days Are Over at the end. A song from 2009, the brink of the decade the Guardians started in feels so full circle.
everyone's all "Oh, the MCU is low stakes and doesn't connect emotionally with me anymore" until the "ROCKET, TEETH, FLOOR GO NOW! ROCKET, TEETH, FLOOR GO NOW!" starts up then everyone is sobbing
I instantly well up as soon as I hear that line. Floor is like a scared child who doesn't really know what's happening, only that it's bad.
Let's also talk real quick about how the movie ends with a party and everyone celebrating the fraternity between them. It's such a huge testament to James Gunn's filmmaking ability that he can tell such a dark story that ends with such an uplifting message. This movie not only made me feel something, which very few Marvel movies can do, it also left a heavy impression on me. I really think this is one of the most emotional films I've ever seen.
Nebula’s arm cannon reminds me of the upgraded Sentinels from X-Men: Days of Future Past. At least Peter admitted to screwing up in Infinity War. My favorite fight scenes were Star-Lord and Groot gunslinging and then of course the Guardians fighting together one last time with No Sleep Till Brooklyn playing in the background. Gamora understandably wasn’t at her best in this film. I liked her the most in Volume 2 because she developed a motherly instinct towards Groot and reconciled with Nebula. At least Peter got to properly say goodbye to Gamora and gain some sense of closure. For me, Nebula and Groot were the highlights of this film. I never thought Nebula would have so much emotion, but I feel like in part it’s because she hung out a lot with Rocket during the blip since he was the only other active Guardian to survive. She even called him a friend right before entering the Orgoscope. As for Groot, he’s become much more reliable. He really surprised me with the ammo and the wings. It’s so cool that he could fly now, or at least glide. He also almost made me cry when he saw Peter freezing to death. The dude really is the heart of the squad. Drax found a new sense of fatherhood. My favorite moment with him was when he translated for Groot to Adam. And finally, Come And Get Your Love by Redbone helps bring the Guardians’ journey full circle.
Got to wonder about Sean Gunn's reaction when Rocket hit play on "Come and Get Your Love" was him unintentionally breaking character.

Man, even watching this made me cry. What a goddamn masterpiece of a movie and trilogy. It's not something new, but it takes the old tropes and uses them to perfection. This has become my favorite trilogy to rewatch, after Lord of The Rings.
25:30 This scene, even in this format, makes me tear up a little. Because they WIN. Not just the battle, but over their past. They all, every single person there, went through so much bullshit from their parents and life and others. They built themselves to try and survive in that sense, but through these movies, they built a family, relationships... and in this movie.... They built a HOME. Not just a place to be or a place where you're not in danger, but a HOME. A place people can laugh and dance and grow and be happy and feel safe to do all of that. They fucking WON.
Fun fact, James Gunn later came out and said Lamb shank was written to be a cameo by Stan Lee as he knew he was struggling so it would have been a nice easy voice over work for him as the film was written before he died but was delayed due to obvious reasons
I love this movie so much, I cried like a dozen times in theaters haha. I've been having Dog Days Are Over on repeat every other day. Everything about this movie just sticks in my head. The MCU may have it's up and down moments depending on the person, but GotG is eternal.
no matter how many times i watch the ending of gaurdians i tear up every single time. it’s the most bittersweet ending ever. “pete, the rest of’em” gets me. “you’re born to be a dad” really gets me. and peter seeing his grandpa again. and ofc them all dancing at the end. it’s just painful yet happy… i was only 12 when the first movie came out maybe even 11. these guys have been with me for a long time now. sad to see them go
The image of Peter walking alone in the suburbs on Earth, the journey over, now separated from his adventures is so sentimental and final and heartbreaking. Especially when set to the bridge of Dog Days
Quill's reaction when it looks like Rocket is dying is what broke me. Think about him, he's an actual sci-fi fan from Earth. And he becomes friends with a talking raccoon. That's exactly how I'd react if my raccoon friend was dying in front of me.
I never made the connection of Rocket wanting the prosthetic limbs until now, and it makes sense.
I played this for my residents in the Dementia ward I work in and they absolutely loved it. Both laughs and tears throughout the movie. It was magical. It's absurd how powerful a cinematic experience can be. I even brought Coca Cola and popcorn in to give them the proper cinema treatment. It's amazing how the little touches can make your "job" enjoyable but it's true. I spent two and a half hours chilling with the elderly while simultaneously crying over a CGI raccoons trauma with them. Believe it or not but life can sometimes be beautiful. I love my job.
It's a true testament to how good a director and writer James Gunn is that Kraglin has the most generic character arc in the movie yet it feels just as earned as everything else.
I don't get how people think James gunn is gonna fail with DC, he made us all care about a tree and a raccoon, he made one of the best trilogies in the mcu, it was a character driven trilogy first, then a superhero movie, and thanks James gunn now I'm gonna cry when I here Florence and the machine
I think it's less on Gunn's ability, and more that I don't think anybody could succeed with the DCU with the studio execs over them that have been the cause of basically every failure so far

I was so nervous about seeing this movie. The previous ones set a pretty high level to compete with. In my opinon it did great. It hits hard in the feels, had some great visuals, and the music as usual is amazing. I laughed way too hard at the F bomb use. Surprised me a bit.
All the rocket moments got me. But the moment that really broke me was Peter seeing his grandad got me. I also lost my grandad who was my father figure at a young age and him seeing Peter again broke me into pieces. This movie is the most emotionally impactful MCU movie
Teefs really got to me for whatever reason. Big guy with a big heart and big teeth. All three deaths were tragic, but seeing Teefs was heartbreaking. Damn you James Gunn for making me feel things!
Of all of them, Teefs had absolutely zero malice in his heart. Floor was a child mentally, and might have never changed, but Teefs spoke and thought like an adult, who just wanted to enjoy time with his friends and make silly jokes about his teeth.
I actually quite liked Floor when i saw them. Reminded me more of 'baby's first oc'. All 4 of them really give me the feel of 'unifinished oc creations'. And the new species feels like a redesign, where you take what you liked from old, unused characters and make a new character with them. Counter Earth in general gives off the feel of 'this is just a fanfic setting'. And I say that all in the most positive way.
My thesis on the entire Guardians Trilogy & Gunn’s The Suicide Squad & Peacemaker is this: the true good guys & bad guys are revealed in how they treat animals and treat life period. This is why Gunn’s ultimate villain is The High Evolutionary and why Starro the Conqueror is his ultimate tragedy defeated by rats. A lot of folks when they watched The Suicide Squad thought Gunn had a thing against birds. But they missed how the characters who perpetuated violence on said birds were villains. The choice of animal characters is also deliberate such as Nananue who is mostly an actual animal confused by the situations he’s in and probably shouldnt be in a prison but a sanctuary. Nanaue only harms others because he is an animal not out of true malice or want of violence. Starro likewise was an abused animal turned into a weapon by the true villains: the US Government. Meanwhile in Guardians, really across the trilogy, this is also the case. The Collector is a piece of crap for how he keeps living beings in cages including Cosmo. In Part 2, Ego has no respect for any living beings other than himself and wants to commit extinction on everything. The Guardians themselves on the other hand, for all being criminals or who the Galaxy couldnt give a damn about, like life and give a damn about the innocent to protect them. And initially its just the sentient life and species they can communicate with. Until the ultimate Guardian of the Galaxy comes along… Rocket. Rocket’s story is the most beautiful and poignant to illustrate Gunn’s themes & beliefs. That all life matters including especially wildlife. Rocket does not wish to only save vaguely human beings but also the caged animals. He is not smart or unique because of the High Evolutionary’s experiments but because it was a random quirk of being born. Thats what angers High Evolutionary - Rocket shows the true value of all life whether they are “lowly” creatures or not, intelligent or not, a powerful alien or a raccoon. EDIT: Forgot to add how Gunn spoils who his heroic characters are through their relationship with wildlife. Namely Ratcatcher 2, Bloodsport, and Peacemaker. Ratcatcher 2 is the one to defeat Starro because she respects all life enough to put her own life on the line for it. She befriends Nananue when no one else will because she doesnt see a monster but a lonely soul and in reality a hurt animal. She doesnt see controlling rats as a use of weapons but increasing a bond and its what makes her different from Starro’s outright takeover of other beings. Starro himself is a hurt animal but is willing to kill others and use them for his bidding as he was used. Its Ratcatcher who delivers the ultimate judgement and end of Starro’s pain the only fitting way: thru her empathy for all of the rats. The rats win because it was an act of love. Bloodsport initially is fearful of rats. He openly attacks Nanaue out of self defense and thought of killing him. He called Ratcatcher an idiot for putting her own life in Nanaue’s trust and thruout the mission, while respectful of Ratcatcher, doesnt bond with Sebastian the rat. Of course Bloodsport was always an honorable hero he just didnt want to admit he was someone capable of love because he’s a man of unbelievable skills in violence. Bloodsport tho has a heart, he can love, & does give a damn. Which is why he turns back to go stop Starro, why he didnt flinch when he saw Ratcatcher being held at gunpoint & shot Peacemaker, why he took the damn mission for a daughter he seemingly didnt care about. But then Bloodsport becomes a truer hero upon accepting the “ratism” at the end of the film. He cannot defeat Starro alone & so has to let the rats pass thru which means crawling all over him. Its this baptism which takes the man who thought he was just a killer & makes him noble. & why he finally pets Sebastian. He now respects the lowliest creatures & is a hero. Lastly Peacemaker. & funny enough despite his villain side, his own violence & baggage, Gunn spoils that hes a hero as early as The Suicide Squad. Remember that its Peacemaker who, when the Squad is drinking, tells the bartender “you forgot the rat”. And as we learn in his show, Peacemaker has a pet eagle. An eagle that is normally a wild animal but which is so bonded to him, he gives him a hug, twice! Peacemaker for all his bravado, is sweet to animals. And he is even more considerate of life in general than he’d initially admits. When Jamil calls out Peacemaker on supposedly only going after minorities, Peacemaker takes that into consideration. He addresses his own baggage, toxic masculinity, and racist brainwashing to become a nobler hero. But again, its all spoiled by the fact Peacemaker was kind to animals. He was destined to become a true hero & overcome his negative flaws.
"Why have you been fighting with the other boys again, baby? Peter?" "They killed a little frog that ain't done nothing. Smooshed it with a stick." Wow.

And with PEacemaker the whole deal of Eagly and the soft spot peacemaker had with his companion, helping him to be humanized even tough before he wasnt set up exactly as the nicest.
I cried like a baby during this movie. I cried like a baby watching this as well. I love this movie.

My favorite part is when they are arguing if they should fight or run and Rocket just says "I'm through running." And they rest are just like "Ok. Let's do this."
This movie had me crying at certain bits. That's not something I do often in movies, but this movie did not disappoint. There were some weird parts about it, but I'm so happy it delivered. :')

Shocked you didn’t mention the last lines Gamora & Peter shared. That, and the emotion when he met his grand dad. Those were, surprisingly, the moments that had me most choked up. Oh, and everyone’s reaction to Rocket NOT dying. Especially Nebula.
I'm with you. I think it takes a specific type of person to feel what we felt when he reunited with his grandpa, because people are really hot and cold on the emotional weight of that. Maybe the people who didn't feel anything happen to dislike their own family. If that's the case, that's pretty sad. The American flags got me primed and ready, because oh man was it heavy to be "home".
Such such such a great movie and maybe one of THE best MCU movies to date.

I'd argue lyla's words of "the storys been yours all along" was refuring to the entire guardians story as a whole. Rocket obviously wasn't always the focal point of each film but James never undermined him in anyway. He was just as important to the team in the first 2 as he was in the 3rd. Not many writers have the skill to do that let alone care enough.
GOTG3 is easily my favourite MCU film. It absolutely carried through on every emotion, and never once felt cheap or unearned. The fact no one died and I was still left a blubbering mess speaks to Gunn's ability to tell a meaningful story in the best way.
