Tom Hanks' new film Inferno is tearing up the international box office. Why? Because apparently someone somewhere likes these movies. Regardless... we decided to commemorate the 3rd film in the franchise by looking for sins in the original, The Da Vinci Code. Oooh, mama.
Thursday: Sins kind of similar to this video, actually.
Remember, no movie is without sin! Which movie's sins should we expose next?!

    • I think it's closer to "I'm an atheist, but because I was raised Catholic I was taught from a young age that I am corruptible and essentially evil, I and every other human who was ever born has failed God repeatedly despite him loving and accepting us despite said failures, our failures were forgiven before we even committed the failures in the first place, of course we haven't actually done anything to earn that forgiveness, we are just that bad and God is that good, basically guilting us with a debt that we can never repay ever, We all collectively bear the responsibility of Original Sin, humans are so bad our species murdered Jesus when he came selflessly to save us at the cost of his own life and his mother's grief, and I was taught to always feel responsibility, guilt, and shame for all of my imperfections and thought crime the church calls temptation", or for some people, their very identity. I don't believe in God or original sin or that I am saved or anything like that, but I am still glad that I learned shame, because I think being ashamed of yourself is wiser more compassionate and more reflective than being shameless which is ignorant possibly self destructive and very selfish.

      @Grumplebumple@Grumplebumple7 жыл бұрын
    • I don't know if we can really blame the people who wrote the script or Dan Brown himself for this. It's a work of fiction, afterall, and they are free to do whatever they want as long as the plot and the world they are creating is coherent. The problem comes with people who really think this kind of theories are real. I studied Philology and I was taught that, when analyzing a book or other works of art, the first thing to do is always to try to understand the historical context in which the book/painting... was created. It's important to know the author and, above all, to know that many of the things the authors put in their works weren't obscure for their audience (a good example is Dante. We don't know many references in Divina Commedia, but we are sure Dante knew the audience of his time understood perfectly what he meant). This means that seeing obscure symbols everywhere (in a Robert Langdon way) isn't exactly the correct way to analyze something, because often we tend to give to certain things meanings according to our context Once we had a lecture with an expert od Da Vinci's works, and he said he was sad to see people watch "L'ultima cena", see some kind of triangle somewhere and say that what Da Vinci wanted to tell was the untold story of Jesus. He said that by doing this these people missed the point. So, I don't think "The Da Vinci Code" is guilty of something. Personally I didn't like the book, but I understand its purpose. Like you, I can't stand people who see conspirancies everywhere, but I don't blame someone because he/she enjoyed a book.

    • He did pretend that a lot of it was accurate, but he got his information from a debunked source. Meaning he bought in to a scam, the whole thing with the secret society and ze grail if I remember correctly. Can't blame him though, he's an author not a historian, he saw an interesting story and wrote a book about it, quite good too in my humble opinion.

    • Actually, it's all fiction he has admitted isn't true, and you might as well accuse Tolkien of trying to sell us on Middle-Earth being prehistoric Earth as being true. This book was actually influenced largely in part by The Holy Blood and The Holy Grail, and THAT book actually tries to sell people on its content being factual. Dan Brown isn't telling us this is factual, this is just realistic fiction that people took too seriously. Don't blame the writer for writing a convincing story. You come up with a new and vague twist to religious ideals, and religious nuts will clamor to it.

Pretty much any produce you see these days has undergone thousands of years of modification by man to be at its most nutritious/ highest yielding quality. If you roll back the current Gregorian calendar to October 13, 1307, then it would be Thursday.

His full name was Leonardo di Ser Piero da Vinci, meaning "Leonardo son of (knight) Piero from Vinci". Calling him "da Vinci" is like calling Lawrence of Arabia "mister of Arabia"

  • 4:38 The Fleur de Lis is not only on a bunch of french stuff, it's also in a lot of the UK. It's on part of one of the English flags, most of the old-style ones, and the Queen's flag. This is because at one point England (not the UK, there was a difference) owned a large portion of French territory. They got it back during the seven / hundred years war (I can't remember which.).

    • I read Da Vinci Code at uni and liked it. Movie was fine but forgettable. Then I watched Angels and Demons and yet again his new ally turns out to be behind it. Surely Langdon would have trust issues by this point but I saw the trailer for Inferno and said 'well, bet that person who appears to be helping him actually has nefarious motives and will betray him at some point'. It's getting formulaic at this point.

      @guyincognito5320@guyincognito53207 жыл бұрын
    • Guy Incognito The movies made it seem like the stories are sequential, with Angels and Demons being the sequel, when in actuality Angels and Demons was written first. Both books have the same main character, but are stand alone stories.The events in A&D didn't happen to The Da Vinci Code Robert Langdon, and vice versa.

  • Actually the point of the star being right side up. And the whole movie if you paid attention. Is that it's a pagan symbol. (Usually that of the religion Wicca) a nature based religion. Focusing on feminine divinity. A topic the movie also explores. And the reason they called in Prof. Langdon is because the police thought it was satanistic, when Robert knew it was a religious symbol for pagan faiths. Not evil, actually one of the most beautiful and meaningful out there. The satanists just stole it from the pagans as the Catholic Church called the polytheists Satan worshippers anyone because they didn't believe in the oneness of God.

    @worldreligion5992@worldreligion59926 жыл бұрын
    • Aaaactually, not a "star" but a pentagram is one of common early Christian symbols. Yes, it was also used by pagans, but it is really an universal and simple geometrical shape so it shouldn't be a surprise. In Christian context, it has a complex numerical symbology, representing Jesus (five points, five wounds etc.). That's exactly why Satanists took it and rotated it upside down to use it as their own symbol - because they were supposed to be the negative of the Church.
