Dan Brown's international bestseller comes alive in the film The Da Vinci Code, directed by Ron Howard with a screenplay by Akiva Goldsman. Join symbologist Robert Langdon (Academy Award® winner Tom Hanks, 1993 Best Actor, Philadelphia, and 1994 Best Actor, Forrest Gump) and cryptologist Sophie Neveu (Audrey Tautou) in their heart-racing quest to solve a bizarre murder mystery that will take them from France to England - and behind the veil of a mysterious ancient society, where they discover a secret protected since the time of Christ. With first-rate performances by Sir Ian McKellen, Alfred Molina and Jean Reno, critics are calling The Da Vinci Code "involving"* and "intriguing,"* "a first rate thriller."**

  • The funniest thing about this scene is that Leigh catches the cryptix but still manages to drop it lmfao

  • The building that this scene was filmed in (Lincoln Cathedral) is such a beautiful hidden gem of the UK. It's a shame that it, and the city surrounding it, doesn't get more visitors really.

  • I know McKellen's character is supposed to be the villain but he does have a point, A LOT of really bad stuff was done in the name of the Church and religious fervor has creeped into contemporary politics today, so IF in fact it's all built on a lie then exposing the truth may in fact be what the world needs.

    • Well, this is specifically the catholic church, not religion.

      @TheMarkJoergensen@TheMarkJoergensen9 ай бұрын
    • Fortunately or unfortunately, this film is almost wholly fiction. This was never and will never be the truth. Just the backdrop to have a mystery and some suspense. That said, religion in and of itself is not bad, but like with all things can be when taken to excess. There are also people who use religion as an excuse to do evil. Every religion has its problematic past and sometimes present. The world is complicated and even if every major religion or just Christianity were based on a lie it would still change nothing. Christianity has been and continues to be the largest organized religion based upon reach and total volume. There are some who would believe this new "truth" and many who would not. In the end, the world is not so simple that a single event or outcry would affect it. Not today. It would simply be another story. Released to the teeming masses and lost within the week just like any other.

    • You have a point... One problem - humans by they nature don't like hearing truth, and truth have to be dressed in clowns clothes and served by stand-up artists... Any other ways of serving truth to people are very unadvicible..... 😜

  • I like that Robert realized that Leigh would be unable to do anything other than try to save the cryptex - he'd spend too many years obsessed with finding the Grail to react any other way.

  • I was like 11 years old when this movie came out. We went to go see it in theaters and I was very lost during the movie. When they mentioned the cryptex created by Issac Newton with a 5 digit password I almost immediately thought 'apple' when it was revealed that was the password I stood up and yelled "I knew it!" in the theaters. Fond childhood memory.

  • I don't know. I think the scene was way better in the book. When Leigh realizes that Robert had already opened the Cryptex and were fighting about the empty hull. Also: A cryptex is a bad instrument to lock away a secret.

  • Could be wrong but I reckon the one fruit most resembling the Heart is the apple. Its said Love comes from the Heart, its said God is Love and Love conquers all things. So it would seem Newton's act of demonstrating gravity using an apple when he could have simply used a rock or stick has a deeper meaning. Maybe it pointed to the Gravity of Love, I mean we still reference that till this day no? When we say we fell in love? I do know that at that Table, Christ's right hand is in a clutched configuration, palm facing down while his left hand is flat and palm facing up. Nothing is in his clutching right hand just as Newton's is empty in this scene. If you draw two lines both radiating out from the same point and that point being at the center of his clutched right hand, draw one line radiating out thru his heart thru that brooch at his neckline and you do the same for what's seated to his right forming that V. That angle is 90 degrees. A square is an angle of 90 degrees so if you close that V by them two coming together as One then would you not have two hearts beating as One? Seems I've heard that line in lyrics and poetry.

  • In the face of Leigh's blind arrogance, Langdon managed to use his imagination that cracked the key to open the cryptex and put the secret clue to safety, just before throwing the container upwards to distract his rival and save Sophie from certain death. By saying that only the worthy can find the Grail, Langdon shows Leigh that mysteries can only be understood by those who balance wisdom with temperance. The Church is sinful because of men, but Holy when divine grace illuminates man's path to Eternity...

    • Actually the cryptex and the riddle is made by sauniere and he made Sophie speak in English since childhood even though they were french. In the books it's mentioned that the priory of Sion started using English since early ages coz it was a new language and looked down by the church which spoke Latin and other latin based languages. So the priory started using English for everything since it was relatively new and not known widely enough at that time.
